Read from April 27 to 30, 2010

I am such a fan of Haddix. Each of her books takes the reader on a fun, well-crafted adventure of creative design. While I enjoyed this 2nd book in the Missing series, I was often removed from the story with questions about plausibility. Anyone who treads into the science fiction of time travel must establish the rules for time travel as it exists in their story early on in order to prevent confused readers.

Haddix does eventually setup her rules of time travel, but they are late in coming. Perhaps that was intended to add suspense, but I often found myself stopping and trying to understand exactly what was happening.

One aspect wasn't explained in the book, however. As I remember it from Found, all of the children who were taken from different time eras were found as babies on a plane and eventually adopted out to parents in the 20th century.

In Sent, however, the two brothers of interest to the plot, were taken as teens and all the actions taking place in that time line reflect that they grew up in the 25th century. How, then, were they found on that plane as babies? Perhaps that was explained in Found and I just don't remember it, but it was distracting to me.

Other anomalies were explained to my satisfaction and the story itself was (as always with Haddix) very well told. Haddix weaved a true-life historical mystery into her adventure which made it all the more exciting to read. Haddix is a fantastic writer (hence my four stars despite the distraction) and I always get excited when I see her latest book has been released.
