I had a very hard time putting this book down. My only real exposure to polygamy before reading this book was though the HBO series Big Love. After reading this book you realize how damaging polygamy is to women and children. This is novel has two stories a 19th wife in the mid - late 1800s and a modern day 19th wife. The majority of the book is focused on Ann Eliza Webb Dee Young from the 1800s that was introduced into a polygamist household as a young child to become Brigham Young's wife that works to make polygamy illegal in the United States. The other story is told though the 20 year old son of a modern day 19th wife charged with the murder of her husband. Both stories are tied together very well. Mr. Ebershoff does an excellent job of telling both stories. I highly recommend this book for everyone to read.
