This is one of Amanda Quick’s books set during the Medieval Times. Lady Alice is a woman of a certain age and has taken care of her family for years. Hugh the Relentless is a bastard son raised to hate his father’s family. Hugh has been given the Manor of his mother’s family and is on the hunt for the green crystal that ties to his lands’ past. He squires Lady Alice away from her uncle under the guise of a betrothal. Lady Alice believes it is a ruse and Hugh knows the red-haired woman would be his wife. Circumstances lead him to London, and she is left behind. She intervenes with the neighbors, which is Hugh’s family’s holdings. Through much work on the part of Lady Alice, the family rifts closes. They learn the truth of the past and all is well. Amanda Quick has another entertaining read, it is a quick read.
