Car chases, crashes, bombs, and assassinations. Welcome to James Rollins newest book “Doomsday Key”. Although very action packed there lies an interesting twisting plot that makes this book a great read that kept me intrigued to the end. While the plot was very interesting it took a while to get going. The beginning of the book started out slow but slowly gained momentum and led up to a bang. James Rollins continues to impress with his fast paced action and slow mind puzzles that I enjoyed following along with. He interweaves current topics and history in with a plot that had me on the edge of my seat until I flipped the last page. The characters in the story were all from Rollins previous books including the introduction of some new characters. Commander Gray Pierce and Painter Crow are the returning stars of this series but with a new side to both of them. A little more of their personality is revealed which questions their loyalty to their organization, Sigma.
This story is told in the 3rd person omniscient point of view which is very useful in telling the story. In having this point of view it causes the reader to be able to have opinions for all characters and know what is going on all the time. James Rollins uses very descriptive language that engages the reader and kept a movie playing in my head. The race for the doomsday key brings Gray and his team across several continents and through many near death experiences. If you are a fan of Rollins or a fan of action you will surely love this book. This shows to be a very good Rollins book comparable to some of his earlier page turning thrillers.
