I really enjoyed this study on David. Beth Moore has a way of drawing out insights from passages that I just read straight through because they are so familiar to me. David was an incredible man, both in his times of sin and his times of obedience. He swings from one extreme to the other, much more than most of us do, but there are some valuable lessons to be learned from his life. I recommend this book.

The parts of the book that were specific to fertility and cycles and how they are affected by nutrition were interesting. She places a high value on limiting certain types of foods (caffeine, aspartame) and using vitamin supplements. For the most part I agree with her, though I prefer my vitamins and nutrients to come through my food instead of supplements whenever possible. But she had some good points and I will definitely be making a couple changes to my diet and vitamin regimen as a result of reading this book.]]>

I liked this book. Her 12 rules for improved nutrition go well beyond fertility and hormone balance and are good rules to eat by for anyone.

This is my least favorite of the Boynton books we own. Nothing in particular I dislike about it, I just like the others better. This one doesn't have the catchy rhythm I so love about her books. It does, however, include a download key so you can hear Davy Jones of the Monkees singing it in its entirety, and that is sort of cool.

This myth is beautiful, in every sense of the word. Lewis draws you in to the minds of the characters and leads your heart on a journey it will not soon forget. There were so many things I identified with in this book and it has become on of my Lewis favorites.

Ayn Rand's masterpiece. It's the first book I read by her, and it was compelling. I could barely put it down and read every chance I got for 3 days to finish it. It was fascinating.

I read the rest of Epic by John Eldridge today. It's a short book, just 104 pages, but is well written and easy to read. Eldridge does a good job of making profound truths and ideas clear and accessible without getting too deep into the theological intricacies. I really enjoyed it.

This is a must-read for every woman interested in learning more about reproductive health, natural birth control, or pregnancy achievement. I learned SO much by reading this, stuff that no one had ever bothered to tell me before. I now have a more complete understanding of how and why my body works the way it does, and what I can do to help it function better. Originally I read the book researching alternatives to hormonal birth control, due to side effects I was having. Once I switch to FAM all side effects disappeared almost immediately and I was just back to the normal me before bcps. We used FAM successfully to avoid pregnancy for 4 years before trying to have a baby and because I knew what was going on with my body already we got pregnant right away once we decided we wanted a baby. I highly recommend this book.

This book goes back to the beginnings of Schlock Mercenary. While you can pick up pretty much anywhere with this series, I recommend starting here for the full background on Tagan's Toughs. Of the physical Schlock Mercenary books I've read, this is the best. Plus, it's fun to watch the author's artwork evolve through the strips in this one. By the time he got to the other books, his characters were pretty "developed" to the ones we know and love, but it's fun to see their humble beginnings.

The Faerie Queen is a beautiful story and worth the read in any version. But Roy Maynard's adaptation is amazing. His explanations of terminology and cultural/historical references are brilliant and fill in many of the pieces modern American readers often miss in reading Spenser's work. In addition to being helpful, Maynard's footnotes are entertaining. It's worth reading this version for the footnotes alone.

At 3 1/2 weeks of age she started sleeping through the night - a 7 hour stretch - and has slept through the night since. I'm convinced that this is at least in part due to the Baby Wise schedule.

I don't know if it works with every kid, in every family. But for us, it was perfect. I will definitely use it with any other children we have. ]]>

We were given this book when we were expecting our first child. I knew from friends who read the other version (Growing Kids God's Way) that Ezzo's methods are based on sound Biblical principles. Baby Wise is the secularized version of GKGW and doesn't go into the details of the Biblical foundation, but the principles are the same.

I find Schlock Mercenary purely entertaining. I prefer the printed comic book form to the online daily strip, though the content is the same. It's definitely "suspended reality" sci-fi, but the author provides such hilarious imagination-stretching explanations for how things work the way that they do that you can't help but love it.

Over the Memorial Day weekend I had the opportunity to read Ayn Rand's Anthem. It's a pretty short book, only 105 pgs. I can't say that I enjoyed it nearly as much as I did Atlas Shrugged. I did enjoy the imagery of Prometheus, though. In the book, the main character likens himself to Prometheus for bringing light to mankind. Both were punished for "helping" humanity. Unlike Prometheus, though, Anthem's character was not bound and tortured for eternity - instead he escapes into the Uncharted Forest, with the love of his life, and there sets out to free humanity from its bondage to altruism. Anthem parallels Atlas Shrugged at least in one way, though. In both, the brilliant of mankind are shunned or punished because they are not working to better the brotherhood of humanity or the less fortunate. They respond by removing themselves from society and building a better society based on self-interest alone. When you consider the fact that Rand comes out of communistic Russia, it makes sense that she would see "brotherhood" and "community" very negatively.

If you're looking to read something by Rand, I recommend her longer works. I found both Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead more fulfilling to read. Anthem left me wanting more.
