Blinder is an economist first and liberal second, and this is the book that shows that more powerfully than others. He covers the major themes of our days and gives the economic solution. Sometimes left leaning but always based in economics.

This book goes further than Sowell's previous book Basic Economics, in that it uses the concepts of economics to tackle everyday things. Whether it is the incentives behind politicians or race issues, every issue looked at is analyzed from the economic perspective and shown, time and time again, that incentives really are what matter.

This book is different than your typical economics book. It offers, without any graphs or fancy math, the principles behind economics from the ground up. Some of them common sense, others counterintuitive, but all enlightening. It uses history, logic, and most of all, practice to show just how different the economist is from your everyday person. A must read for the person new to economics.

This is the book that pioneered so many movements, from the movement to end the draft to the school choice movement. Though it is a collection of different chapters, it really is a scratch pad for the brilliant mind that was Friedman's. The book is riddled with possibilities, some of them tested others not, but all with the objective of higher efficiency and more personal freedom.

One of the must read classics of the 20th century. Hayek is easy to read and continuously engaging. This is a book that when written most people thought Hayek was wrong, it was near the beginning of the cold war where many, especially intellectuals, thought communism was the future and an economy worth emulating. It was Hayek that warned of the dangers and more than fifty years later, it was Hayek that proved to be ever so right.
