great adventure book, worthy of the legacy of "Into Thin Air" about people who love a sport / adventure and are faced with disaster. Each chapter covers how a different boat survived this difficult storm (as well as those who perished).

Had to read it cause, well, everything written by Stephanie Meyer in one week. I actually liked this one better than all of the Twilight books except for the first one. It was a nice twist on Body Snatching-aliens. The middle dragged on a little (too much Dawson's Creek-y internal drama even for this supposedly adult book). The end was lovely, almost cried. Still don't like the heroine though. She was better than Bella and stronger for most of the book, but she was still... well... too helpless. It was the same kind of dynamic, requiring her "protection" by the men in her life who do a fair share of choosing her destiny for her. Not to spoil the end, but it gets worse at the end, she goes from kick-ass to being even more helpless. I imagine if this book dragged on for 3 more books like Twilight did she would probably have become as hopeless as Bella by the end after showing so much promise at the beginning. But, again, the page-turning qualities still redeem the book and I recommend it. Also, not sure what distinguishes this from Young Adult, the only adult "theme" was that a couple got to gether before marriage instead of after (in fact, marriage wasn't even mentioned for any of the couples in this book).

I'm torn about this. It was a good happy ending to the series. But Bella is not my favorite character in the world, and she doesn't get any better with this book. Plus the first half of the book had a disturbing anti-abortion, pro-teen pregnancy message, complete with a subplot of her abusive boyfriend wanting to force an abortion (of course, he's the white knight of the series, so that's apparently ok). So here I am enjoying a book with an absolutely appalling message on how to have a relationship.

Yes, I read all three of these in three days. Pretty good YA books everything said and done. A little Dawson's creek and a little too innocent (come on, a multi-book story line about abstinence? give me a break, in a 100 years, you'd think that vampire would've gotten some action...)

So I decided to give it a try. Maybe I was in the mood for a romance, but the first book was awesome. Mostly romance, a little suspense, lots of fantasy thrown in for the mix. And a lot of blantant YA level foreshadowing of other stories that make me want to read the next books.]]>

I actually re-read this rather than read it the first time. I like Carol Berg's light fantasy series - maybe most of all because they have a clear story arc with a beginning, middle and end, all in three or four book series rather than "universes" of fantasy that seem to stretch into infinity with endless hardbacks and no satisfying resolution to the estorylines started in the first book. Anyway, its summer, and light page turning books are the most fun.

I've been picking up and putting this book down for the better part of a month now. The first half reads like an autobiography that is interesting, but not particularly unique. Its the second part as he braves hurricane force winds in the Southern Ocean to save a fellow sailor that catches your attention.

Who knew longitude was so hard to figure out (well, I already had an idea). Plus finally learned more about who Cassini and Hyugens were (think I would've figured it out after those probes named after them went to Saturn). A really fast read, too, got through nearly half of it in the doctor's office today. Though it was a really long wait... a lot less thick than Diania Sobel's other book Galileo's Daughter, which I also recommend.
