It seems that many of the folks that read this were looking for high literature. It certainly isn't that so if that is all you want to read, then don't bother to pick this one up. If however, you are a reasonably relaxed human, this is one that is great while at the beach or the poolside. Also, I highly recommend it for anyone who considers themselves a true Parrothead...it will satisfy the margaritaville need!

I really enjoyed this book a great deal. I am not generally a fan of period pieces but this was certainly and exception...probably because it didn't feel dated. The setting was charming and it was paced very nicely. I will read more of these Victorian Mysteries with relish!

I was a little worried to begin a book by Robin Hobb that didn't have to do with the Farseer's since I did so much enjoy that entire series last year. However, this book has completely alleviated my concern and I can't wait to begin the second book. This author has a way of making the most unbelievable setting and events seem completely real.

This is the story of a priest not entirely sure that is her calling after the death of her father. She struggles to do what is right and we see a very human person behind the collar she received upon being ordained. If you like a mystery and internal struggles this might be a good choice for you.

This book was a resounding flop! I know, I know, I shouldn't have expected a lot, but I was hoping for something that at least took my mind off the real world. All this did was make me want to finish fast so not too much time was wasted! So, I can say the plus was it was a fast read. However, the editing was awful with characters (those with similar names) switched around in places. The story jumped from place to place with no attempt at continuity. There were characters introduced who never had anything in them fleshed out at all, yet they had a major role in the story towards the end.

Overall, unless someone hands this book to you and you have absolutely nothing else to do, don't bother. It truly was a waste of time and paper.

It is safe to say that the second book of the Mitford series continues in a pleasant and happy mein. It is a nice story that makes you smile and for that is worth the 4 stars. I didn't learn anything, nor did it change my perception of world, except to know that there might be a secret corner of goodness out there, somewhere!
