My life coach recommended this book. It's very sweet, and short! Each quality is described as if it were a person, one per page. For a busy, working, single mom like myself, it was perfect. I kept it in my nightstand and read a few pages at bedtime when I had time. I still keep it there and re-read pages from it occasionally. I also use it as a coaster. ;-)

My first Tom Robbins book. I read it in my "Great American Authors of the 20th Century" class at the University of South Florida. I fell in love with his writing style. It wasn't until years later that I read "Still Life with Woodpecker," which was my favorite book for a long time.

I think it's out of print, but you can find it online. Amazing writing, with very romantic descriptions of nature/water. I'd like to hike into the desert with Craig Childs and sit on a rock and look up at the stars and never say a word. Then again, I feel like I've already been there through his wonderful writing.

I read this book before I started going through the change. Now that "the times they are a changing," I keep it on my night stand as a reference. Extremely solid information on all aspects of menopause. Every woman should own it. The author's PBS specials are awesome as well. She is very inspirational.

A classic. This book helped me realize what an amazing writer Ernest Hemingway was. It helped me tone down my own writing style and write more succinctly. As one of my classmates at the University of Central Florida told me (and I'll never forget), you can say "I hit my hand with a hammer and it hurt," or you can say "I hit my hand with a hammer."

I read The Plague, but I couldn't find that book listed on its own. It's a great book that had a profound effect on me in college. It was the first book I "had to read" in a literature class. I was so innocent, and this book opened my eyes to pain, suffering, death, tragedy... real life! I went on to be an English major. This book may have turned me in that direction.

WOW! I will never forget reading this book! I was all of 19 years old, studying literature at the University of South Florida. I think it's one of the first books I remember "studying," and I thought it was so great and so deep. I was also studying Hemingway at the time and made an embarrassing comment in class one day. I said something to the effect that I preferred reading Death in Venice because it was so deep and so intellectual and you had to study it to understand it... unlike The Old Man and the Sea, which was so simple you got it the first time you read it. What can I say? I was 19! I came to understand Hemingway so much more after that!
