Haven’t there been plenty of books with people-eating plants? Right away, it brought to mind the children’s movie, Jumanji. People-eating plant? Check. Lots of screaming? Check. Entertaining? Not really. I could barely make myself pay attention. The premise seemed so unoriginal and weak.
When asked, my husband added that it took awhile to get going and the ending was unsatisfying.
Some of the characters you like, some you don’t. The problem is that it doesn’t matter. They all die.
So, what’s really disappointing is that this book was on EW’s 100 New Classics list. Several of the books on this list kind of look like a joke…
Conclusion: Unless you’re specifically a Scott Smith fan (like Stephen King is) or you’re really curious, don’t worry about trying this one out.(less)
