Mercy is a tough coyote and I'm pleased with the outcome of the Adam and Sam saga. This title lead us down a murder mystery that was affecting the faes in their compound/reservation. Mercy's nose was needed to catch the killer and bring justice to the fae world and all their magic lore within items. Humor, romance, mystery and more...
"'A cowboy, a lawyer, ad a mechanic watched Queen of the Damned' I murmured. Warren, who had once, a long time ago, been a cowboy, snickered and wiggled his bare feet. 'It could be the beginning of either a bad joke or a horror story.'"
Kyle, the human and lawyer and Warren, the werewolf, were a couple and Mercy is a best friend. They hang together all the time and I find it delightful. The characters are all fleshed out well and sound like real people living life, the American dream. That is what the werewolves want since they have come out to the humans but since the fae were first, the humans were scared and down right bullies. Hence the reservations for the fae. Sound familiar??? A realism look at what society would do with fantasy creatures that go bump in the night, they only thought were part of lore and stories. I do love the mentions of poems that an author wrote regarding the charming fae whom one must never thank. ...more

His adoptive father groomed him to be a newspaper man/anchor man and when the world bit him on the ass, Colin left... ran far far away. Now, Colin has to save the paper from ruins as his step-mother has other ideas how to run the paper while her husband is re-couping from a stroke in the hospital. She thinks advice columns and other fluff will change the direction, but long time ad accounts are not happy. Can Colin get the paper back in the black and enjoy seducing Rina? Will the plan backfire and lead him into permanent temptation? Rina may be to hot for Colin, as her two year hiatus from being a widow is all about change... for the better. Cute story, nice second chance for both characters, holiday cheer and plenty of hot romance make this an easy, quick read for the day. Always and forever a fan of Carly Phillips stories!...more

Home Invasion in a small town where everyone knows each other is rare but add in the elements of strangers looking for a quick fix of money to feed their drug addiction of Meth and you have a whole lot of trouble. Possible rape situations and just for hell of it.... add an ice storm of the century. I wish the story was a touch longer especially (view spoiler)[ the aftermath when they were both safe. I'm having a hard time believing that their romance blossomed that soon unless they had spent several days alone, getting to know each other. I realized they knew each other from school but more time would add validity to the subject. The house should have contain just enough supplies until the rescue squad/tow trucks were able to get the mountain home. As we know was what would happen since his father is the Sheriff. I started reading book two after I saw the movie of Divergent. Truly sad that they made so many changes and left a few things out. My daughter is very upset.... So I was so angry, I grabbed book two and began another whirl wind adventure with Tris. She was a teenager trying to be an adult with emotions of her parent's deaths and Will's death eating at her soul. She was more reckless and out of control. Tris was harboring secrets and learning what needed to be done. Relationships were tested. Whether it was the right thing or not, Tri makes a choice to save others. We learn that several people are spies, factionless are their own community, what happens to old, useless Dauntless members and that there is a secret outside the fence. Answers to questions I had in Divergent emerged and thankfully I have book three... because what a cliff hanger on the last page. ...more

Fast paced, sexy, undercover operation with hopped up street cars. All named, of course! I loved the premise behind the men in the Steele Street Company. Second chances for teenagers with too much time on the their hands and an ability to find trouble. Can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series. If you are a fan of the movies Fast and Furious, then you will enjoy this book. But the good guys are driving the fancy rides this time. ...more

At first I was reading this book slow because there was so much information to process. And now... I'm ready to dive into book 2 and 3 with a vengeance. I didn't expect to be so caught up into the factions and the people. I gasped out loud, I cried, I cheered, I hoped and I wondered. I have so many questions, I hope some of them get answered in the next two books. I can't wait to watch the movie. After a few chapters in I was asking myself what faction would I choose. Based on my love to read and research.... Erudite but I also felt like I had qualities of each faction and so I said well heck I guess I'm Divergent. "I think we've made a mistake,' he says softly. 'We've all started to put down the virtues of the other factions in the process of bolstering our own. I don't want to do that. I want to be brave, and selfless, and smart, and kind, and honest' He clears his throat. 'I continually struggle with kindness.'" - Tobias/Four. I took the quiz at the end of the book and I picked mostly Erudite answers to those questions but there were just a few and several of the last questions I chose other factions. I would need a further test to determine.... I like to read but I don't want to be evil like Jeanine. "I don't understand why we're such a threat to the leaders'. 'Every faction conditions its members to think and act a certain way. And most people do it. For most people, it's not hard to learn, to find a pattern of thought that works and stay that way.' She touches my uninjured shoulder and smiles. 'But our minds move in a dozen different directions. We can't be confined to one way of thinking, and that terrifies our leaders. It means we can't be controlled. And it means that no matter what they do, we will always cause trouble for them.'" Hmmm.... I'm one who chooses the different path, beats the different drum and never follows the fad.... I had extreme hatreds towards certain people and wanted to see revenge and I'm slightly annoyed with some of the deaths at the end.... A couple individuals, I thought would have been around for the next book and the next part of the revolution/war. I don't know what it's being called yet.... I want to know what the author sees is behind the gate. Why is it locked from the outside? I hurt when Tris was in pain and I felt the adrenal rush with each new chapter, each new secret. I do wish a few things went on just a touch more (the sneaking around and discovering what Jeanine had plans for) and that the attack wasn't as successful. I wanted Abnegation to be protected a bit more, but Caleb must have gotten some warning back quick enough when he became factionless. Questions, I have questions. I need to have a book club meeting to chat more.... I'm chatting with a buddy reader on goodreads and the librarian at our local library. I guess I will have to chat more with Sara and Joy also.... I love that the author read The Giver and A Wrinkle in Time. I loved those books too. I will have to check out Ender's Game, 1984, Gilead and Juliet. Yes, I read everything at the end of Divergent... I want more! "I don't think books have ever solved my problems or made my decisions for me, but they bring me out of myself and make me ask myself questions, and that's life altering enough."-Veronic Roth ...more

Now, after this book, I will never againI have always had a distrust for rest areas especially when I'm alone, therefore I don't stop at many at all. Now, after this book, I will never again stop at a rest area. The sheer fact that there is a real Highway Task Force with the F.B.I. investigating all the missing persons across the United States from the road is freaky enough. ViCAP is a great thing and yet disturbing when all crimes are uploaded from the states... that some might cross over and actually be linked. Alex wove an awesome story of another madman leaving clues for Maggie O'Dell and with multiple gruesome details. I'm quite interested in seeing more of Ryder, her new character, and his pooches with maybe a live rescue mission rather than cadavers. With each book in this series, Alex makes the reader bond with all her characters as their lives continually change. They feel real and connected to the surroundings, even the local police. I raced through the pages with my heart beat rapidly thumping, especially toward the end. I do know I was extremely worried about Grace when the accident happened and then Bolo with the guns and knives. I love animals so...... A must read series! Laugh out loud comical with 7 children, one cat, a nanny and a housekeeper. These neighbors will keep the good Dr. perplexed until he decides he has a hole in his life just him and the dog Plato. I love Lisa Plumley so her story would be the next favorite -- Merry Merry Mischief. A former couple who team up to babysit his baby cousin when the boss and wife are stuck overseas with a snow storm. Lisa Jackson's story, A Baby for Christmas, was cute but felt rushed; nevertheless I enjoyed it very much.
