Her words are beautiful, fluid, and poignant, tugging on a place deep inside of me until I couldn’t help but lose myself in this story. Scattered Colors is the quintessential New Adult novel. Parker and Freya’s journey is colored by loss and splashed with heartache as they both navigate their inimitable connection and intense feelings. Jessica Prince has crafted characters that exude life, filling the pages with their vibrancy and emotional honesty. Despite their warring emotions, Parker and Freya understand each other on a profound level that gives them an undeniable kinship you just can’t ignore.
Freya is my favorite type of female character. She’s broken, vulnerable, and struggling to accept the hand life has dealt her, but underneath the broken pieces there is an unmistakable fighter. She’s strong and feisty and fiercely protective of her friends and that makes her someone you can’t help but adore. Jessica Prince gave this character obvious flaws and fears that infused this character with an unquestionable authenticity, allowing for readers to be easily affected by Freya. The chemistry between Freya and Parker started out a tiny spark but the more time they spend around each other the hotter that spark becomes until the fire completely engulfs them. Jessica Prince did a fantastic job bringing to life not only the physical pull between them, but the emotional one as well.
Parker’s fight for Freya was one of my favorite parts of this book. I loved the ferocity with which he pursues her and his unwavering determination to help heal her. His love for her did not overshadow his respect for her, evident in his allowing her space and time to cool-down, process, or accept the constant uncertainty of their young lives. The easy pace and methodical progression of events gave Scattered Colors an addictive quality that had me devouring this book in one sitting. This novel overflows with deep and heartbreaking emotions that will have you feeling every aspect of this story wholly. Scattered Colors is a breathtaking New Adult journey of loss, love, and living that will leave your heart feeling absolutely full....more

There’s nothing she can’t conquer, continually slaying me with her emotional angst, delicious suspense, and quirky humor. Sometimes all at once. The Consequence of Loving Colton is romantic comedy at its best. I grinned, chuckled, snorted, giggled, and laughed out loud at the antics of Milo, Colton, Max, and Jason. Their sarcasm, witty banter, and unfortunate mishaps colored this vibrant and hilarious story.
Rachel infuses just the right amount of heart into this story, giving the reader something genuine and significant to hold onto. While I wondered about the future projection of the story and attempted to decipher the feelings and history that connected the characters, I was enchanted by this effortlessly entertaining book. The Consequence of Loving Colton is one of those books that will leave you feeling all of the warm and fuzzies when you’re done.
As far as the storyline goes, what seemed simple quickly turned somewhat complicated before eventually becoming outright pandemonium. The surprises and unexpected twists in the story is what kept me riveted to Milo and Colton’s journey, anxiously waiting for the next humorous or shocking moment. This story had everything I adore and then some, supplying all the drama and unrequited feelings you could wish for. The Consequence of Loving Colton hooked me from the start with its unique sparkle and irrefutable reality that is navigating love and friendship in the new adult world!...more

Free of thei4.5 Stars - Now that all of Leo and Sam’s secrets are out, Coco Cadence heats things up in the final installment of the Possessed serial. Free of their inhibitions, Sam and Leo light their story on fire. Coco Cadence never ceases to entertain with her snarky banter and quirky characters. Leo King continues to surprise me, bringing all of his alpha personality to the pages of this novella. He’s possessive, demanding, sexy, and has a mouth that will make you absolutely blush. He also happens to have an unexpected sweet side that will leave you melting. I knew we were in for some serious tension with the revelation we were left with at the end of part two and Coco Cadence did not disappoint. Part 3 is just as sweaty as it is sweet and Leo and Sam seem to have unleashed even more lust in this book.
I have to admit; I was impressed with Coco Cadence’s plot development in this novella. While things with Leo and Sam certainly moved in the anticipated direction, the twists and turns of their story kept me guessing and prevented the story from feeling too predictable. Sam’s actions not only surprised me, but helped showcase her overall character growth since the story began. We also get to see both an incredibly sexy and controlling Leo and a less cocky and emotionally vulnerable Leo in this installment. This gave the character more complexity and authenticity. I adored every heated exchange and sarcastic comment volleyed between Leo and Sam. Part 3 was a great way to wrap up their story and I am looking forward to seeing what Coco Cadence will tackle next. ...more

Jackson has managed to outshine herself once again. Come to Me Recklessly is an incredible addition to the Closer to You series, and my favorite so far. Come to Me Recklessly brought me much needed insight into who Christopher Moore really is. While he seems to live his life unapologetically and without feeling, Samantha has stopped living life altogether, floundering in an existence she never really wanted. The tension between these two fuels a story of unconditional love and an unwavering belief in fate that holds a significant emotional weight you won’t be soon forgetting. Come to Me Recklessly had my head spinning as my heart ached for true love to find its way out of the wreckage.
A.L. Jackson has a true talent for crafting characters that stick with you. Christopher was revealed to be so much more than I could have imagined and I loved getting to know every dark and twisted facet of him. His pain was palpable, as was his conflicting anger and attraction, drowning me in this character until he was permanently stuck. His emotional depth was overwhelming as we finally got to see the pain he’d been carrying from everything that had happened with his best friend. In her own way, Samantha was a just as hopeful and heartbreaking. The layers of her story built a brilliant picture of this hurt and scared woman desperately fighting to feel. When these two run into each other again, things sizzled. A.L. Jackson gave Christopher and Samantha an undeniable chemistry that raised the intensity of their story ten notches.
Christopher and Samantha’s journey is unique and devastating, beginning in their teenage years and continuing to shape their view of love into adulthood. Their battle to undo the damage from their youth was full of incredibly explosive highs and absolutely crushing lows, taking us on an emotional journey that tore at my heart. The story that unravels in Come to Me Recklessly is gripping, beautiful, and unquestionably representative of everything Christopher is. His journey with Samantha is messy, gritty, and a whole lot reckless, but the honesty and devotion of their story ultimately sparkles. A.L. Jackson has written another novel that will immediately consume you, drawing you into her world and making your heart beat faster. ...more

Puck and Becca’s story was different from the moment it began and I quickly found myself caught up in the unique and gritty journey. Puck’s raw intensity juxtaposed against Becca’s fear and timidity made for a passionate and heartbreaking story. Joanna Wylde had me completely enraptured by Puck’s jagged edges and surprising vulnerability when it came to Becca. The emotional weight of this story surprised me, leaving me once again impressed by the unexpected depth and complexity of Joanna Wylde’s writing.
Puck is everything you’d expect an alpha biker to be. His gorgeous looks and dirty mouth easily had me melting, but it was his loss of control around Becca that had me falling hard for this man. He seemed to lose all ability to be rational and remain calm around her. Every time they were together, I could practically feel the heat radiating off the page. The connection between them was obvious and incredibly fierce. Joanna Wylde definitely knows how to create sparks. Becca was a great character to follow. Watching her go from the terrified and desperate little girl Puck met all those years ago to the feisty an indestructible woman she eventually becomes was exquisite.
Silver Bastard was addictive, pulling me through the story and leaving me unable to stop reading. This story packed a powerful punch. The heartbreaking and gut-wrenching moments had sadness and anger burning inside me, while the breathtaking moments of bliss filled my stomach with butterflies. Joanna Wylde has a clear gift for taking a world that is rough, dirty, and unfiltered and polishing it into something brilliant and meaningful. I can already tell I’m going to enjoy life in the Silver Valley and I’m anxious to see whose book we’ll get to experience next....more

The journey that unfolds brings together t3.5 Stars - In Unlikely Hero, Kemmie Michaels delivers a different twist on the tempting fighter storyline. The journey that unfolds brings together two opposite personalities in an unexpected and surprisingly sweet way. Erin and Marcus’ unconventional “meeting” had me grinning and I loved that Kemmie Michaels continued with this important piece of the story throughout the rest of the book. I was intrigued by all of the secondary characters that served to fill out and enhance Erin and Marcus’ story. Marcus’ sister was amusing and light, helping Erin break out of her own shell. The emotion and angst that comes along with this novel had me on a complete rollercoaster ride, trying to decide if these two broken souls could find an unlikely hero in each other.
My favorite part of this story was the open communication between Erin and Marcus. Their relationship had a fairly solid foundation and their honesty allowed the reader to really understand them and feel like a part of their world. Erin was a great character, constantly tugging on my heart with her insecurities and flaws. Marcus quickly proved to be a lot more than a fighter, and frankly I was impressed with the care and kindness he showed Erin. There was a definite spark between these two as their story progressed, but at times I lost that feeling of undeniable attraction due to the slow pace of the story. I am definitely intrigued by this author and am looking forward to seeing where Kemmie Michaels plans on taking the rest of the series. ...more

Leo’s lies (or omissions of truth) drive a wedge between these two, causing their “relationship” to go up in flames. While I was shocked by the plot twist, I think I was even more surprised by Leo’s reaction to Sam being hurt by him. So far we’d seen the sexy, fun, alpha Leo, but Part 2 gives us a deeper look at this character. Coco Cadence delivers Leo’s vulnerability and flaws in a way that endeared him to me even more. Character development was a huge part of this installment, carefully unraveling Leo to reveal his true depth. Sam was no exception. We get to see a stronger side to her as she makes self-preservation her mission. She proves to be just as vulnerable as Leo, but fierce nonetheless.
I loved where Coco Cadence took the story in Part 2. We got to experience some genuine emotion between this couple, as well as some sizzling moments of undeniable attraction. We also see Leo and Sam really getting to know each other on a more basic level and that gave them a true tangibility as a couple. Coco Cadence cleverly dropped hints along the way as to the next big twist in the story and I was fairly certain I knew what revelation was coming next for Leo and Sam. Even still, I found myself reveling in the emotions of that moment when the next truth comes to light, forcing Sam’s world to shift once again. Filled with the fun, sexy banter I’ve come to love between these two, Part 2 was steamy and surprisingly sweet. With this new secret no longer between them, I can’t wait to see where Coco will take Leo and Sam next!...more

This book was everything I’d imagined Hayley to be and then some. This book is vibrant, colorful, hilarious, awkward, quirky, and touching. Hayley was every bit the fireball that lives her life unapologetically I had pictured in my mind. She made me laugh and care and hurt. Max and Hayley, two twisted and scarred characters, made for a journey that was breathtaking and memorable, breaking my heart and putting it back together again.
I knew from the moment we met Hayley and Max in Love, Always that their story would be incredibly special. They both carried pain and heartache that threatened to crush them and yet continued to fight for the light. I connected with them and felt for them. The journey Yessi Smith takes us on in New Forever is stunning. It’s not pretty or perfect and things are definitely messy, but it’s genuine and in that there is so much beauty. Both characters transformed over the course of this story, revealing a depth and tangibility that allowed them both to shine.
New Forever is just as packed with emotion as I’d expected. The startling truths that come to light in this book evoke intense and conflicting emotions that hit unexpectedly during Max and Hayley’s journey. Yessi Smith wrote every feeling with a simplicity and honesty that had my heart aching for this couple. The relationships between all of the characters are raw and real, filled with harsh truths, uncomfortable disagreements, and unconditional love. I was nervous to finLena and Preston’s story continues in Private Getaway with Lena fleeing town with her broken heart on the first available flight. I was nervous to find out where this volume was headed and incredibly anxious to see how Lena’s character would continue to develop. Anie Michaels hit the nail on the head with this one, keeping us securely locked in on the crazy rollercoaster ride that is Lena and Preston’s story. We meet several new characters that breathe life into Lena’s new world and prove to be integral parts of her journey. They were great additions to the story, giving us another perspective on both Lena and Preston, adding to the growth of these characters.
This novella felt like it belonged to Lena and her personal journey and it was a nice reprieve from the relationships and drama that had driven the story thus far. Anie Michaels gave Lena an incredible strength in this novella that allowed her story a genuine sense of hope. I adored seeing Lena working to stand on her own two feet and I loved that her resolve never waivered, even when her heart was being pulled in new directions. Despite what she’d been through, Lena never felt jaded, allowing me to maintain my connection with her character as she continued on her journey.
Preston somehow managed to earn back some of my affection, although I will certainly be keeping a close eye on him. I’m glad this wasn’t the end of their story because I think Preston and Lena are really just getting started. Anie Michaels leaves Lena and Preston in a less frustrating place this time, allowing for some resolution, while maintaining the possibility for more twists and turns in the final novella of the Private serial. There is plenty of unresolved tension that will fuel the final chapter of their story and the build up has me anxious for the moment when things either fall together or come completely apart....more

After meeting Mathias in Maddox’s book I was dying to get to know this jilted man. I wanted to hear his story, to experience the heartbreak that had jaded him so completely, and maybe even see someone break through his walls. Micalea Smeltzer delivered all of that and more in Never Too Late. The reappearance of Remy, the girl who broke Mathias in the first place, promised a story bursting with vulnerability, hesitancy, regret, and inextinguishable attraction. As feisty as they are individually, Mathias and Remy are an absolute force of nature together. Each page of their story was burning with the inimitable energy between them, making their journey addictive and unforgettable.
Mathias was so different from Maddox in the first book, so I was definitely curious to see how Micalea Smeltzer would develop this character. The rough, cynical twin was everything I thought he would be and so much more. With Remy back in his life, his anger and resentment towards her is unleashed completely. I began to understand Mathias and even relate to his emotional upheaval, connecting me with him unexpectedly. Micalea crafted an electric current between Remy and Mathias that sparked and sizzled with every word exchanged and touch offered. Their journey was the perfect reflection of who these two characters are: messy, loud, and impulsive.
I love the concept of getting a second chance at love, and the added twist that neither of them were the people they once were and the completely different directions their lives had taken only made this story more heart wrenching and brilliant. The effect of Remy’s secret on their relationship tugged at my heart and filled me with overwhelming emotion. We get to see more of Emma and Maddox in this book, along with Hayes and Ezra (whose story I’m desperately needing ASAP). Micalea Smeltzer balances the heavy emotional undertone of this story with a new character, Remy’s grandma, a hilarious and brazen presence that spoke her mind and gave Never Too Late some much needed levity. I loved every second of Never Too Late and I’m so excited about the direction Micalea is taking this series in. Bring on the rest of Willow Creek! ...more

I honestly had no idea how consuming her words would become or how emotionally invested I would find myself. Everything about Come to Me Quietly is strong, the characters, the emotions, the devastation. Each aspect of this story is potent and the resulting combination is a stunning hurricane of words that effortlessly transports the reader into A.L. Jackson’s world. It has been a long time since I’ve felt this much emotion while reading a book but this story just touched me in a profound way. The dark and light of this journey clashed in an unexpected battle that simultaneously crushed my heart and stole it away.
Jared and Aly are two of the most complex and well-developed characters I’ve ever read. Their personalities and behaviors so clearly reflected their discordant personal journeys in life, yet the underlying connection between them was insurmountable. To say that Jared took me by surprise would be a gross understatement. I liked Jared well enough at the beginning, but I could never have guessed that I would become absolutely addicted to his darkness. A.L. Jackson unquestionably put a lot of heart and soul into this character. He earned a permanent place in my heart with his profound words and shattering inner dialogue. The contrast between his moments of perfect tenderness with Aly to his self-destructive tendencies was poetic, painting a complicated and beautiful picture of a very haunted young man whose very soul was tortured and unsure.
A.L. Jackson has earned herself the no-questions-asked one-click from me with this book. Come to Me Quietly is an exquisite journey that will definitely stay with you long after the pages of this book have been closed. A.L. Jackson has a voice that is poetic and thoughtful and incredibly unique. Her writing effortlessly provokes a myriad of emotions, allowing the reader to simply lose themselves amongst the pages of her book. Her characters have personality, depth, and purpose, ensuring my investment in them from the start. With Come to Me Quietly, A.L. Jackson has created an experience that is entirely human and absolutely inimitable. I know Aly and Jared’s journey is only just beginning, so I’m readying myself for whatever A.L. has in store for this couple next. For anyone who loves angst and overcoming, this book is a MUST read. ...more

It’s riddl4.5 Stars! - Graceful Scars is probably the perfect name for this book. The journey Savannah Stewart will take you on is hard and it hurts. It’s riddled with heartache and overflowing with emotion. Both Tegan and Talon have been through more in their short lives than anyone should in a lifetime and when life throws these two together they find a kindred soul in one another. I fell in love with Tegan and Talon and the way they made each other light up from the inside out. Savannah Stewart captures the special spark between them and ignites it across the pages of this book. Graceful Scars is a beautiful story of finding love and finding yourself while learning to let go of the way you think things should be to allow them to be what they’re meant to.
Tegan spoke to me. From her very first breakdown, I could feel the depth of her pain and the fear she carried inside her. Savannah Stewart didn’t sugarcoat her experiences or magically heal her by finding love. Tegan struggled and she clawed her way up only to fall right back down. It was raw and real and heart wrenching but along the way Savannah nurtured this character, allowing her to grow into her own the hard way, learning to adapt and overcome her demons at a painfully slow and entirely genuine pace. Talon is an anomaly. Hot, sweet, successful, and amazing with his little sister, he grew up far too fast. His understanding, patience, and unwillingness to lose anyone else from his life made him the perfect match for the beautifully broken Teagan. Zoey was a wonderful addition to this story, providing levity and light where it was needed.
It was obvious from the start that this story was going to have moments of darkness, but I was impressed by the way Savannah Stewart handled them. She didn’t downplay the significance of all that had happened to Tegan and she shared the emotional and physical pain of life after trauma with sincerity and grace. Even in moments of happiness, Tegan’s reality was allowed to seep in and that gave this story an authenticity that anyone who has ever felt that kind of pain can relate to. Each little twist and turn in the storyline brought Tegan and Talon to right where they needed to be and while their journey was anything but easy, it was unquestionably beautiful. I will definitely be on the lookout for more from Savannah Stewart. ...more

DIf anyone deserved a happily ever after, it’s Kate. Her journey began in The Problem with Crazy and it was rough and tragic and hopeful all at once. Despite her grief and the cruel hand life had dealt her, she was a charismatic and beautiful character you couldn’t help but cheer for. The Problem with Heartache was absolutely nothing like I would have guessed, but it soared above and beyond my expectations. Lee and Kate had an obvious and special connection from the moment they met in the first book, but Lauren McKellar took that and made it absolutely shimmer in this one.
Kate was once again shattered when this story started by a grief that was crippling. There were times when I swear I could feel my heart aching for her. We got to experience the ups and downs of moving forward after loss and it was clear how much heart and soul went into writing this character and her story. Lee was a breath of fresh air. He turned out to be just as thoughtful, sweet, and humble as I’d hoped he’d be. Even his mistakes came from a good place and I immediately fell in love with his kind heart. The tiny flicker of hope that sparked between these two in the first book was fed and fanned over the course of this one. Lauren McKellar built some serious chemistry between Lee and Kate that grew hotter as the story progressed.
The storyline was the biggest surprise for me in The Problem with Heartache. As the story took off, small hints were being dropped that a bigger secret lay buried beneath and as much as I tried to guess, it wasn’t until the end that I had any idea which ghosts of their pasts were going to change the course of Lee and Kate’s story. I enjoyed seeing Lee’s past brought to light, getting to know this character was something special. The more we learned about him, the more I realized he and Kate had struggled with life experiences that allowed them to understand one another. Once again Lauren McKellar has written another fantastic addition to her Crazy in Love series and I’m already ready for whatever she has to throw at me next!...more
