This story was one sucker punch after another. I had barely met the characters when a series of events, an unlikely combination of tragedies, would change their lives and their love forever. Laurel didn’t pull any punches with Hate: A Love Story. From start to finish this book was as genuine in its emotions as it was witty and heartfelt. Whitney and Blane’s story is one that will leave you feeling changed, somehow made better by the acceptance of human flaws and the careful navigation of irreparable grief.
Whitney is one of the most genuine characters I’ve come across in a very long time. Laurel crafted this character to be raw and insecure. Afraid and strong. Broken and real. The connection I forged with Whitney was immediate and steadfast because she felt entirely honest, right down to her anger, shame and jealousy at all the wrong moments. I want to give Laurel a giant hug for exposing what it means to be human and for not writing characters who are perfectly in control of their thoughts and emotions. Whitney and Blane’s journey is hauntingly beautiful.
This was definitely an ugly cry book for me. Hate: A Love Story settled itself deep within me thanks to the incredible storytelling and phenomenal writing skills of Laurel Ulen Curtis. The pacing was great, starting off when our characters first met as children and jumping ahead in time through their most important moments together. It’s been a while since I’ve read something so emotionally charged. I already want to re-read this book so I can get more time with Blane. Hate: A Love Story is an absolutely MUST READ. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll hate and you’ll love. You may even love to hate. ...more

The beginning of this book was filled with angst as Dominic and Sophia dealt with the repercussions of the events that unraveled at the end of book one. As a reader, I wanted to demand answers but A.D. knows just how to deliver each piece of the story so as to draw out the excitement and suspense. Emotions ran high in this book. A.D. Justice sure knows how to stick the knife in and twist. Sophia and Dominic’s torment was palpable from the start as they both tried to navigate the shock and betrayal brought on by recent events. At the same time, their undeniable connection and innate lust for one another still simmered beneath the surface, making me anxious every time they were in each other’s presence. As their families took a more prominent roll in this book, feelings got even more complicated and A.D. managed to expertly juggle some very genuine emotions.
This storyline! I was constantly being thrown for a loop as Dominic and Sophia try to get the bottom of the threats against them. Just when I thought I knew who was behind everything, A.D. would unravel another layer of deceit and completely surprise me. Right up until the end I was on edge, wondering if things were really what they seemed. A.D. really went above and beyond in planning the little hints dropped along the way that would eventually lead to the truth. It was these subtleties that really brought the story full circle and gave it strength. Her Dom’s Lesson is the full package. It is sweet, sexy, romantic, thrilling, suspenseful and at times a little sad. This was a fantastic romance suspense novel that encompassed the best of both genres. I enjoyed getting to know these unique characters and sharing in their sinful story....more
Jessica Sorensen is quickly becoming the queen of cliffhangers. My heart is still racing at the revelations Violet and Luke are faced with at the endJessica Sorensen is quickly becoming the queen of cliffhangers. My heart is still racing at the revelations Violet and Luke are faced with at the end of this book. Angst is the one word I would use to describe this story. Neither are in a good place when this story starts and it makes for a lot of self loathing and destructive behavior. Jessica made their pain tangible. There were times when I swear I could feel the tightness in my chest or the anxiety flowing through me as Luke and Violet faced down their demons. I couldn’t stop reading, waiting for the moment when the sadness would lessen and some relief would seep in. The vulnerability, strength and personal growth Jessica orchestrates for Violet and Luke is absolutely beautiful, forcing me to let these characters steal a little more of my heart along the way.
The mystery and suspense of the storyline gets kicked up several notches in this book. Just when I thought things couldn’t get more tangled, a new event would throw everything into chaos once again. We finally get a couple answers but in exchange we’re given several more pressing questions that threaten to alter everything Luke and Violet know and love. I’m certain I will be immediately starting the next book because there is no way I can wait to find out where this story is headed. I’m too attached to Violet and Luke and too invested in their happily ever after. The Probability of Violet & Luke told a part of their story that was earth shattering, heart wrenching and undoubtedly thrilling. This is going to be one heck of a book hangover. ...more

Let’s just say, it wasn’t at all whatAfter falling for Hadley and Ryan in Lost in You, I was excited to get a glimpse at their future in Lost in Us. Let’s just say, it wasn’t at all what I expected. From the start, Heidi completely threw me for a loop. A significant amount of time has passed since the end of Lost in You and Hadley and Ryan are vastly different people. I didn’t expect this novella to be quite the emotional rollercoaster that it was, but it had me gripping the edges of my kindle while I battled with myself over whether I should throw it across the room or just pray for the skills to read faster.
Heidi has developed both characters significantly since we saw them last. She made it clear that Hadley and Ryan were no longer two people completely consumed by young love, but rather time had turned them into adults with dreams and responsibilities that couldn’t always coincide effortlessly. I loved the change in Ryan. The lost seventeen year old is long gone and in his place, Heidi has given us the voice of a man who has finally learned his worth. He stole a little more of my heart in this book. Hadley, on the other hand, is forced to face the challenges of balancing her demanding career and building the personal future she so desperately wants. She undergoes considerable growth over the course of this story, as she navigates life out of the limelight.
As much as I’d love to hate it, the storyline of this novella was captivating. Ryan was a much stronger, sexier personality, while Hadley became more relatable with the appearance of her insecurities, flaws and sometimes-selfish nature. I can appreciate the happily ever after more when a story is honest and the characters imperfect. Lost in Us took the couple I loved and made their story more tangible. It was touching and heartbreaking and satisfying all at once. It took a while for my emotions to level out after reading this one. Heidi had me all over the map as we experienced the ups and downs of adult life with Ryan and Hadley. Lost in Us is a raw, emotional novella that will keep you rooting for these two and remembering why you fell for them in the first place. ...more
I didn’t think it was possible for this story and these characters to seed themselves more deeply into my heart, but somehow they did. This book tookI didn’t think it was possible for this story and these characters to seed themselves more deeply into my heart, but somehow they did. This book took all the pain and heartache of the first book and made it tangible for the reader. As Callie and Kayden are forced to finally give their suffering a voice, their tragedy became unquestionably real and entirely heart wrenching, taking me on a journey of suffering, love and redemption.
Jessica Sorensen has orchestrated a breathtaking character evolution with Callie and Kayden. The Callie we see in this book is still scared and broken, but she finds a strength within her that allows her to face her fears and help Kayden do the same. Jessica made sure this character was not only someone you could sympathize with, but someone you could love, admire, and find your own strength in.
Jessica Sorensen revealed a lot of depth to Kayden’s character in this book. The more we got to see inside his head as the truth about his past comes to the surface, the deeper I fell for him. Jessica’s incredibly storytelling made their bond unbreakable in this book. Then there is Seth and Luke who make this story whole. Without them this story wouldn’t have been able to grow wings.
I felt so many things while reading this book. I’m not even sure I have words for a lot of the emotions I experienced. At times, Callie and Kayden’s pain seemed insurmountable. My heart broke and shattered for them as I watched the soul-crushing moments of their lives try to bury them. I hurt for them and I hoped for them. The family they created for themselves brought me comfort, while their unwavering loyalty and love put the broken pieces back together. I was riding the waves with these incredible characters, never wanting the journey to end. ...more

While the storyline isn’t anything we haven’t seen before, Finn and Carrie are a unique pair that had me rooting for them right from the start. Carrie is nothing like the bratty, entitled girl Finn expects and Carrie has no idea who Finn really is. Finn’s secret creates an immediate tension that Jen McLaughlin maintains expertly throughout the story. The chemistry she cultivated between Carrie and Finn is absolutely sizzling. I waited patiently while they fought their obvious lust, enjoying the witty banter and fun flirtations that flew between them. Jen certainly knows how to create that intense build-up between her characters.
Despite her obvious innocence, Carrie was bold and willing to ask for what she wanted from Finn. Her inexperienced nature was never used as a shield from life, if anything, it propelled her to live her life more fully. Finn is a yummy alpha who falls hard and fast for Carrie. His laidback nature and his protective instincts made for a swoon-worthy BBF that I was more than ready to adore. Obviously, this story just screams heartbreak. How could it not? Jen McLaughlin definitely had me on an emotional rollercoaster with Out of Line. The characters experienced many ups and downs together and I felt as if I was right there with them. Carrie and Finn are definitely a couple I’ll be keeping an eye on. I’m excited to see where their story goes next. ...more
