His book outlines what he thinks makes America a great nation, and where he thinks we have veered off the tracks.
I thought the book was reasonably well paced, and I found myself agreeing with Dr. Carson's sentiments more often than not. However, I was surprised by the overly informal tone of the writing -- the book is very conversational. I had expected something written at a higher level. I'm not sure whether that's a good or bad thing, but sometimes I found myself wincing over his choice of phrase and wondering why he didn't re-word his sentences for a higher level of sophistication. Additionally, although many of his suggestions for compromise certainly make sense, some of them are unrealistic. For example, I completely agree that politicians should serve out of public duty not greed or selfishness, but just saying that won't make it so.
That said, the book is up-beat, and Dr. Carson is clearly a level-headed man who believes in logical compromise. If the government were full of people who thought like him, the country would be in much better shape....more
