(I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review.)
To be honest, this book took me a little while to get into. I wanted to love it and when I didn't at first it had me a little bummed. But I wanted to push on and give this book a chance. And let me tell you, I'm so glad I did! This book was great and I can't wait to read the next one (you know, whenever that one is going to come out!).
I think it was the setting and different terminology that took some getting used to. The Realms were a little difficult to understand.
The character development was fantastic. You see Aria develop from a self-conscious Dweller girl into a self-sufficient woman. You see Perry change from a cold-hearted savage into a more understanding human. More specifically though I enjoyed watching their relationship blossom. I thought they were prefect together once they were both able to let their shields down a little.
The action in this book was fantastic too. I didn't want to stop reading, but sometimes life calls and you have to put the book down.
I've heard a lot of mixed reviews for this book, but I really enjoyed it. The only reason I gave it four stars and not five was because it took me a little longer to get into than other books have. I say give this book a shot, I know I loved it!...more
I really really liked this book. I couldn't get enough of it. The Mockingbirds was one of those books that ICheck out more books at Books to the Sky.
I really really liked this book. I couldn't get enough of it. The Mockingbirds was one of those books that I couldn't stop thinking about it. While I was at work I couldn't help but think about what Alex was going to do next and if things were going to develop with her and a certain geeky boy.
There was a point one night where I was racing trying to finish a chapter (at midnight, way past my bed time) because I want to know what was going to happen next and my husband kept purposely distracting me!
The subject was a tough one to write about, date-rape, but I think Whitney handles it with ease. Unfortunately Whitney is a victim to date-rape so she can relate to this topic all too well. I applaud her for using this experience to write this book for people to read and understand that date-rape is real and just because you don't say no doesn't mean you wanted it or meant for it to happen.
I read a bunch of negative reviews on Goodreads and I don't know what their problem is. The story was excellent and the Mockingbirds were characters to look up to. I can honestly say that I didn't know anyone in school who would have gone through these measures to help students they hardly even know.
I can't wait for The Rivals, the second book in The Mockingbird series, to come out, which is being released February 6, 2012 (according to Goodreads)....more
