Rose's characters are well-developed and engaging. She made me care about them and root for them. I enjoyed the way Caroline (aka Mary Grace) grew as a person and made her life better. Rose played out her situation perfectly from her fears to her judgments to her approach to romance. I liked how strong she was. The romance aspect was beautiful. Max and Caroline were a great pairing. Their troubles fit the story well.
The book was a romantic suspense, but it wasn't suspenseful in the sense of a "who-done-it" type of deal. You knew throughout the book who the bad guy was. The suspense was more about how it was all going to play out. Even though there weren't a lot of twists and turns and you weren't guessing about the bad guy, Rose manages to really pull you into the story. You're on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. True, the plot isn't the most original - an abusive husband stalking his wife - but with the emotional aspects and the details, Rose keeps the book from being typical.
Great book, I look forward to reading more from Rose. ...more

I just read it for the 2nd time today and loved it just as much as the first time. Cover to cover, I just enjoyed every element of the book. I will admit, though, that's it's probably not for everyone. I know some really dislike romance stories where the woman is older than the guy, and I know some wouldn't like how crude and abrasive Johnny is for over half the book. Plus there's a small paranormal element to the story that some would hate. But if you don't mind all that, it's a fantastic story.
The chemistry between Johnny and Rachel is wonderful. They originally connected when he was in high school, enjoying talking about books, poetry, politics, and whatever else together. Johnny had the hots for her, but their relationship then was completely platonic. It builds a nice base for the present tense of the story. Then when the meet again, they just can't stay away from each other no matter how different they are. Rachel is a prim and proper teacher, and Johnny is the quintessential bad boy. If there's one complaint I have about their romance, it's that you don't get a clear understanding of the progression of Johnny's feelings. He admits from the start that he's "hot" for her, but Robards doesn't really give you the how or the why those feelings progressed to him being in love with her. I would have liked to know that.
As for the plot. Interesting storyline, even if at it's base it's a tad predictable. It was pretty easy to guess that with Johnny back in town, another woman would die to try to make him look guilty. But Robards does a great job creating twists and turns to make the storyline unique and interesting. I never would have guessed the identity of the attacker or the reasons behind it all, though it all made sense...in a twisted, metaphysical sort of way. You have to allow your mind to stretch a bit to accept the reasoning in the plot. And there's a certain surprise element at the end that was a great addition.
Just a fantastic all around story. I love the opposites attract romance and the great suspense plot. One Summer is one of my all-time favorite books....more

It was one of those books where you don't even notice what page you are on because you are so caught up in the characters and the story.
The characters are great - well-rounded, likable and interesting. I really enjoyed Brianne and Pierce's interactions. They had an interesting dynamic with the age difference and Pierce's shattered heart. Their romance was nicely played out. I also liked the introduction of the secondary characters - Tate Winthrop who Palmer features in Paper Rose, and Phillippe Sabon who is featured in Lord of the Desert. I've read Lord of the Desert, so it was nice to read his introduction into Palmer's continuity of characters. And I look forward to reading Tate's story soon. I enjoyed the storyline as well...the international political intrigue, the suspense and tension. It was a well-thought plot that made sense and kept the reader into the story. And it also turns out that this storyline has a direct connection to things that happen in Lord of the Desert, so it was nice to get the first part of the storyline about Sabon's country.
The thing I have a semi-criticism about is the fact that Palmer once again followed her popular "formula" with the hero being a mid-late thirties, broken guy who doesn't believe in love and marriage, and a female is is rather young, innocent, but brash and vibrant. It's a workable formula, but it would be nice Palmer strayed from it once in a while. It's not really a negative of the book...it didn't take away from the story, I'm just saying that I wouldn't have minded if Palmer had gone with something different....more

I wasn't sure what to expect from it since it was a book I randomly picked up the library. It just looked interesting, and since I love romantic suspense (and that's what it was labeled as) I thought, what the hell, why not? And I ended up loving the book, even though it was completely not what I expected.
Return To Me is best described as a thoroughly primal, raw, passionate, story. It's extremely erotic. It might not be the most sophisticated story in terms of language, style, and plot, but it more than makes up for it with bold sexuality, strong characters, and an interesting storyline. Though the book is classified as a romantic suspense, it is not on the level on your typical book of that genre. The suspense plot is subtle, more of a background aspect, and there's not a lot of guess-work involved. The story is more focused on the characters themselves, but it works for the book.
Simon is the typical tortured, bad boy hero and I was instantly fascinated by him. He's so internally conflicted about what he wants, what he deserves, and the demons from his past, but yet he doesn't lost that Alpha male personality. I just wanted to give him a big hug. Ellen is the polar opposite...the shy, wealthy, good girl. It's one of my favorite dynamics in romance books. The depth of the characters is fairly thorough. There were a few points I thought could have been better explored, but for the most they had nice dimension. They had a powerful chemistry together, but were constantly fighting themselves over preconceptions, deservedness, and a host of other issues. Their relationship was very push-pull. I was rooting for them from the beginning.
The book - though I adored it - isn't for everyone. With such a strong, in-your-face sexuality throughout the entire story, there are a lot of people who won't care for it. There's nothing pretty or tame about the sex in the book. It's down and dirty and raw, but passionate at the same time. It's one of the things I loved most about the story. I've always wanted to read a romance book with a high level of eroticism but yet a complete romance. It's just not something you tend to find in the mainstream. Sex is more pretty and mild in those and more about the romance, which is fine most of the time. There's a lot of erotica on the 'net, but those are generally just gratuitous sex with no romance or just a smidge. So it was exciting to find a book with a bold sexuality and yet a wonderful romance to go with it. But with that said, like I stated previously, Return To Me won't appeal to everyone. If you like your sex on the vanilla side and sporadically occurring, then you'll hate the book so DON'T READ IT!, but if you like some chocolate with your sex you'll love it as much as much as I did.
So...fantastic book in my opinion. I can't read to go find more of McKenna's stories....more

I couldn't put it down once I started. It's about a secret government agency. 3 years before the books picks up, a team in the Balkans was lost...the members captured and tortured. Only 1 person escaped and the bodies of the rest, except for one, were recovered. For 3 years, the guy who runs the agency has struggled with the team being lost, and the woman whose body was never recovered. He had feelings for her, but never allowed them to surface. Then suddenly, he reads a short story by a woman who writes about a secret mission that is strangely like the one his lost team member once went on. And it goes from there. A real page turner. Highly recommend it. ...more

Same premise as the other one. This one focuses on a different team member. The guy in it is...GUH! I was drooling over him. Another former car thief. When he was about 19, he started seeing a senator's daughter. They had a hot fling, then he was accused of murdering her ex-boyfriend. He spent 2 years in jail for the murder, but then was pardoned. Now 13 years later, he meets up with the girl again, and they end up on the run together for issues dealing with the original murder. Again, very fast paced and very hot. As I said, the guy is just yummy. He's got this tattoo that's just...mmmm. Anyway....I've enjoyed both books. There are apparently going to be 4 more books in the series. Looking forward to reading them....more

The basic gist of the plot is that 4 female friends get together one night and are grousing about the shortcomings of guys and as a joke, they make a list of what would make up Mr. Perfect. The list accidentally gets released in an informal newsletter where they work and it starts making huge waves. Then one of the 4 friends is murdered. The other part of the story is that one of the four moves to a new house and has immediate problems with her cop neighbor. They are always butting heads, but she has to turn to him when the trouble starts.
So I wasn't sure I'd like it, but it really sucked me in quickly. It was one of those books where you don't even notice what page you're on because it's so damn good and you're just totally into what's going on. The suspense plot is a bit odd, and I admit it was somewhat annoying - a list making such big waves, but everything else about the story is awesome. The romantic pairing is fabulous. I loved them. And the humor kicks ass. I can't count the number of times I laughed outloud. Just a great book overall and I highly recommend it....more

There's nothing flowery about it. The language at times is coarse, but fitting. And she crosses the line on taboo's blatantly. But it doesn't take away from the story. It makes it all the more powerful.
There's a definite suspense tale to the story, but it's not the biggest part of it. A lot of this story is about the characters. The book just completely draws you in on an emotional level. It pulls at you in a way that so many books don't. The characters are so vibrant and you really feel for them. And the relationship between Webb and Roanna is compelling.
There are a bunch of things about the book that would put some readers off. It is a dark tale. But man it was good. ...more

Great characters, great romance, a nice minor suspense storyline. Just an all-around enjoyable romance read.
The romance was by far the biggest aspect of the book. Zane and Tamara are a great couple. And their scenes together are very, very hot. This is definitely one of the better erotic romances that I've read. It's sexy and sensual without being crass or just about sex. It's about the characters connecting and being drawn helplessly to each other. True, Foster doesn't quite do justice to the emotional bond, but I don't think the story suffers all that much.
I loved the side characters of Luna, Joe and Tamara's family. They were great, and I enjoyed the cameo's from the other 3 Winston brothers. Also, the small suspense angle gave the story some nice added depth, making the book more well-rounded.
Overall, a good read if you want a sexy romance....more
