Some parts are a 3 and some are a 4. I heard a lot about the series being compared to Kresley Cole’s The Immortals after Dark series but I didn’t find it to be along the same lines at all. Where Cole’s series is light and fun this is serious and dark, more like borderline urban fantasy.
The world that’s created is well-done and so are the different “kinds of people” who live in it. You can really feel the cold futuristic Psy world compared to the nature loving/emotional Changeling world. The steamy scenes are good—especially the dream sequences at the beginning, but then it just veers into more urban fantasy and less romance. The love story between Sascha and Duncan seems to miss a few steps somewhere along the line so it’s hard to believe that they are as in love as they appear to be.
In terms of paranormal fiction/urban fantasy it’s good but as far as the romance goes, it’s a bit off and sometimes too hokey. (less)

Bowen MacRieve—good god now there’s an alpha male! This book is even better than book 2—if that’s even possible!
For once I could actually picture a Scotsman speaking without getting irritated at the "accent". I could just hear Mike Myers doing Shrek's voice or Sean Connery—smooth as silk, do what you will I am soooo lost! This book is amazing from the first few pages! Even before the story starts with the little blurb that each of them says about the other really wets your whistle and makes you want to read on! I whipped through this baby! What a fantastic story between angst riddled Bowen and razor sharp tongue Mari. There are so many freak out moments where you’ll be sitting there slack-jawed going “what the ù^$*ù”!!! Some excellent banter between the h/h—very witty and suggestive dialog. And the sex was a 3 alarm fire -- Whoa!!!
Bowen was a beautiful character calling Mari "witchling" and fighting his own preconceptions about witches because he came to realize that he truly loved her. The way he protected her at all costs or whispered suggestive things to her will just make you melt into a puddle. The little puzzles scattered through out the story are also so well done because they seem so simple at the end.
This story was excellent! Fantastic development, incredible tension, spectacular characterization---5 stars, white hot! Keep the SO on hand and available!! Next book is out in April—thank god ;-) (less)

It's been sitting on my TBR pile since it came out and I have no idea what I was waiting for to read it! The first book in the IAD series, A HUNGER LIKE NO OTHER, was good but I didn't like it towards the end--but I'm so glad I bought the 2nd! I just loved this one from start to finish! The characters were fabulous--***spoilers****** --who could not swoon over Sebastian the sexy gentleman-vampire, and Kaderin his must-have Bride was a really good tough as nails heroine. The character development for Sebastian was very well done. He starts out shy and unsure of himself and turns out to be quite the alpha male in the end! As a couple they come together perfectly. The sexual tension throughout the book will having you turning pages well into the night!
I loved the Hie and my heart broke for melt in your mouth Bowen---that guy just screams hotness! The Valkyries didn't appear silly this time like I found in A HUNGER LIKE NO OTHER --they were funny this time around. The ending was great--it sizzled off the page and had me smiling away.
This is 5 star rip-roaring scorcher of a read that I would highly recommend! Good thing I also had book 3 quietly waiting on Mt. TBR :) (less)

It was boring, there is tons and tons of filler that detracts from the "romance", there are too many clichés and stereotypical romance story moments and it's still too similar in my opinion to JR Ward's Black Dagger Brother Hood series--the difference there being that Ward's is top notch.
The love story between Dante and Tess is not well developed and the vampire world story takes up too much "space" between the brief times the couple make it back together again. Nothing really happens between them until a good 150 pages into the story even.
This is more a paranormal story than a paranormal romance. The story outline on the back cover is very misleading--it's like a movie preview that looks really good but those are the best parts of the 2 hour movie and everything in between is a waste of time.
I didn't particularly enjoy Book 1 in the series but Book 2 is certainly worse.
I like a good paranormal but not when it copies off every other book out there and rolls it into a weak story.

The only thing good about this book is that the author does a brilliant job describing life under the sea. The writing though is stilted purple prose with endless sex every few pages and virtually not character development. Lots of repetition too. Classic example of "don't judge a book by it's cover"--and that's one mighty fine cover ;)(less)
