Other than that, it was very well written and I was very eager to finish it to find out how it would end. (less)

The first book sucked me in from the start (no pun intended). I didn't particularly like Ana or Grey in the beginning, but I was curious to see where the story was going and how far Ana was prepared to go. It was exciting to read, not only because of the sex scenes (which ARE arrousing - no need to put it any other way), but also because of the love story. Would she fall for him? Was he going to love her or just use her...? I also liked the ending of book 1; because it made me want to read book 2 immediately; to see how they would resolve their issues.
The second book had its moments, but by then I had lost part of the exciting feeling that had me hooked on the first book. I started to get agitated a bit by the fact the author kept using the same expressions over and over again. How many times can one person cock his head to one side, really? I've read that a lot of people couldn't relate to Grey's personality and were annoyed by his posessive and controlling behaviour, but I must say that -by book 2- Ana annoyed me more, with her irrational jealousy. Jeez girl, whatever he did in the past, you can not change it... so shut up about it!
The second book ended with a serious cliff hanger and I was anxious to read on; but then the story kind of lost me. Luckily the author got somewhat rid of her repetitivenes. But at times, I felt I was watching a bad soap opera, as cliche was piled upon cliche. How many random things can happen in one book? A lot, apparently.
What kept me reading was the fact that I was still amused by their conversations (their email conversations mostly) which were hilarious throughout the three books. I usually don't give up on a book that far into the story anyway.
I sound negative, but looking back, I actually DID enjoy the books, as shown by the fact that I read them all in one week (while still working ;-)).
I enjoyed the parts where her subconscious and her inner goddess were mentioned very much. At times these parts had me laughing out loud.
I loved Ana's witty remarks and the big handsome, mysterious MESS that was Grey, though I wouldn't want either of them as a friend. They were both too complicated and tiring!
Would I recommend this series? Not if you're into high quality literature. You should pick up something more intellectual. The books are highly entertaining though. And if you need to spice up your sex life, you should really read books 1 and 2 ;-)(less)
