She has yet again delivered a heartbreakingly beautiful story that made hope for her characters' well-beings and happiness. I usually don't read novella's because the stories always seem rushed and lack great emotion, but I have had the pleasure of falling in love with Roberta Kagan's other stories and so I knew a novella of hers could not disappoint. Reading Roberta's stories are like treats to me, I know I can curl up and have a beautiful story ahead of me. From Nazi Germany to Cuba: A Story of Love, A Voyage of Deception was just that, an achingly beautiful story about a man on a journey to make it through the worst of times and live a life with purpose.
I was hooked on this story from the very first paragraph. I liked that the story started out in 2009 and went back in time to when Alex was young and trying to escape Hitler's reign by taking the SS St. Louis to Cuba. After what he'd been through in the concentration camps, I could completely understand his distrust and skepticism that the Aryan's would help them. I can't say much because I really don't want to give anything away, but his reactions to situations were real and believable. I was really happy that he found his beshert (one true love) in Ana. I loved when Anna told Alex that he was chosen to live and that that had to mean something, and that because of that Alex realized that he needed to write the story so that no one would ever forget what happened to the Jews. I was proud that he had published Anti-Nazi essays when he was still in Germany, and I sympathized with him when he told how he felt that he had condemned his family as well because of it. I was scared for the characters all throughout their voyage to Cuba, and even though I had a feeling something bad would happen, I wasn't any less upset when it did. There was a shocking and wonderful surprise in the form of a gift from Alex and Anna's friend Manny, that literally managed to save their lives, which is the exact reason that Alex dedicated his book to him. And there was another remarkable surprise at the end of the story that finally gives Alex's conscience a rest. As for what happens with Alex and Anna, well you'll have to read for yourself to find out!
I loved From Nazi Germany to Cuba: A Story of Love, A Voyage of Deception not only because it was a wonderful story, but also because it sends the message that you must live a life of purpose. Alex lived a life of purpose by spreading the story of what happened so that the world would never forget, and I believe that's exactly what Roberta is doing as well. She is making sure through her stories that the world never forgets the horrors that happened and the amazing people that either lost their lives or suffered and lived through it. Eventually, there will be no more survivors alive, and so it is up to us to pass on their stories, and Roberta Kagan does a sensational job of doing just that by taking actual events and creating beautiful works of fiction around them. Thank you Roberta, for recognizing the importance of never forgetting and for creating astonishingly beautiful novels to cherish and pass on to other generations....more
Another hit for Melissa Cutler! I swear, one of the best things I ever did was sign up to be a part of Melissa's reader review club. I have loved everAnother hit for Melissa Cutler! I swear, one of the best things I ever did was sign up to be a part of Melissa's reader review club. I have loved every single book of Melissa's without fail. How to Rope a Real Man is no exception as it gripped me from page one and had my heart bleeding for every one of the characters.
How to Rope a Real man is the third in the Catcher Creek series and probably the one I was the most emotionally invested in. This book had my emotions going haywire! I'm happy one minute, scared the next, pissed the next, and positively on an emotional roller coaster ride the entire time. The pain and struggles and joys and worries and happiness is all so real that you can easily get sucked into their lives. I loved Jenna because she was spunky and real and such an amazing mother. Not matter what she has gone through or continues to go through, she is strong and that was so admirable. And Matt was awesome. He had secrets and insecurities and struggles of his own but he was such a caring and wonderful man and he loved Tommy so much. He helped everyone so much in this book and I just completely loved him. Tommy's dad comes back to town and all of Jenna's secrets are revealed. I don't want to say more as to not give anything away, but lies are unraveled, anger takes over, and the road to happily ever after is rocky, but the love this family has for each other and the love Matt and Jenna have found with each other make it all worth while.
As always, I loved another of Melissa Cutler's novels. How to Rope a Real Man is full of hope, lies, revelations, uncertainty, and love. It will keep your mind racing and your blood boiling the whole way through. Thank you Melissa, for yet another gem <3...more
Melissa Cutler's novels are like wonderful little treats. You always know its going to be a well written, well put together story. The Trouble with CoMelissa Cutler's novels are like wonderful little treats. You always know its going to be a well written, well put together story. The Trouble with Cowboys was no exception. This is the third Melissa Cutler book I've read and I can honestly say that I love her writing just as much as I love her. Being a part of her Reader Review Club, I received an uncorrected proof of the second book in this series, and Melissa Cutler was nice enough to offer her members an ecopy of the first book as well. Hence why I'm here thanking her in my review. The Trouble with Cowboys is a novel about a young woman on the verge of losing her family farm, who falls in love with the one person she has promised herself she wouldn't.
Melissa Cutler wrote Kellan Reed so well. I loved him. He was strong and caring and genuinely such a decent and good man. He has his secrets and his troubled past, but he truly would do absolutely anything to protect Amy and her family. Amy was wonderful as well. Shes a caring sister and amazing chef and she throws herself 100% into everything she does. She has a serious thing for cowboys, but they have all hurt her in the past and so she has sworn them off. But her rules go out the window the minute she lays eyes on Kellan, and as the saying goes, the rest is history. Amy and Kellan have such a true need for each other. The story deals with a range of emotional problems as well as financial, while Amy and her sisters fight to save their family farm. Kellan also has a huge secret role in all of this and has to make difficult decisions about his future and figure out what, and who, he truly wants in his life. We get a whole slew of wonderful and amazing friends and family as secondary characters as well, that I am so excited to read more about in the rest of the books in this series. The end is wonderful and beautiful and perfect. It is whole and complete, yet there is still room for us to continue all of the characters stories and see where life continues to take them and I cannot wait to move on to Cowboy Justice next!!
As with all of Melissa Cutler's books, The Trouble with Cowboys kept me enthralled in its pages. Its a story about struggling to find yourself and accepting and embracing the hand life dealt, and following your heart when it comes to love because it just might be worth the risk. Thank you Melissa, for offering your review club members a copy of this book as well. I am so happy that I got to read it, so that I can now move on to Cowboy Justice having read the first!!...more

I feel like I say this a lot, but its so true!! I loved this book even more than the first one in the series, The Trouble with Cowboys. As a part of Melissa Cutler's Reader Review Club, I was sent a super awesome uncorrected proof of Cowboy Justice which I will completely cherish. Cowboy Justice is the heartwarming story of two people that put everyone else's needs above their own, who finally figure out that sometimes love is worth being a little selfish.
Cowboy Justice was amazing. It is a story of passion and love and danger and murder and tragedy and hope and determination. I loved all of the characters and the fact that we got to see whats going on with Amy and Kellan too. I loved Vaughn. He's troubled, thats for sure, but only because he wants to do whats right all the time and hes selfless because of it. He was so protective of Rachel and he just loved her with absolutely everything in him. I loved more than anything that we got to see things from his perspective because it allowed me to really connect with him. So often, the male POV is an added bonus, but in this book it really made the story. I loved reading chapters from his POV even more than Rachels. After reading about Rachel in the first book, I didn't know how I would feel about her in this book and how Melissa Cutler could make us feel the connection between her and Vaughn, but I totally loved her and completely felt the connection. They have a history together and he brings out the side of her we didn't get to see in The Trouble with Cowboys which is absolutely wonderful. They both have to face their demons and insecurities, along with a handful of powerful men trying to take them both down, before they can realize what they truly need out of life and fight for it. It is an amazing story to watch unfold, and I absolutely loved all the hopefulness that I felt throughout the whole story. I am definitely looking forward to Jenna's story in the next book!! I can't wait to find out who the father of her child is and watch her find true love too!!
I loved Cowboy Justice. It is an amazing story of fighting for what you love with everything you've got. Thank you again Melissa, for allowing me to be part of your Review Club!! I love that I have a growing collection of your amazing novels on my bookshelves!! I absolutely cannot wait for the next one!! ...more
First of all, I just have to say how adorable I think it is that this book releases January 1st and that the story in the book starts off on New YearsFirst of all, I just have to say how adorable I think it is that this book releases January 1st and that the story in the book starts off on New Years Eve. So cute!! I am so beyond lucky to be a part of Melissa Cutler's Reader Review group because I have absolutely adored every single book of hers that I have read so far. Secret Agent Secretary solidified that my favorite of her series is the Ice: Black Ops Defenders series. Secret Agent Secretary is a thrilling story about two ICE workers on a dangerous mission to take out the bad guy.
I'm not going to sum the book up, I'm just going to jump right in to what I loved. I loved Ryan and Avery. So so much. Avery is unlike a lot of female leads because she is sharp and witty and isn't afraid to stomp a bad guy in the nuts with her stilettos. Shes fearless and adventurous and that made for a really entertaining read. Ryan is a secret agent and so good at his job. I'm convinced he could get out of any crazy situation you put him in. Hes smart and strong and skilled. They were adorable together and I loved how they both opened up to one another and helped each other in every possible way. There is a lot of crazy stuff that they go through, most of which is dangerous and life-threatening, but the reason for it makes it all worthwhile. There are also tons of little spy quips that added to the fun of the story. I won't say more as to not give anything away, but just know that this series is so worth your time!!
Secret Agent Secretary is nail-biting and adventurous and deep, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat hoping that justice is served. As I said earlier, this is definitely my favorite of Melissa Cutler's series, and I am beyond thrilled that Alicia's story is next. Thank you so much Melissa, for allowing me to be a part of your Reader Review Club!! I am looking forward to the next great read!! ...more
I just finished Colton by Blood and I have to gush about what a great book it was. I've been a part of Melissa Cutler's Reader Review Club for two booI just finished Colton by Blood and I have to gush about what a great book it was. I've been a part of Melissa Cutler's Reader Review Club for two books now and I have to say I'm a total fan of this amazing author. The first book I read of hers was Tempted Into Danger which immediately became one of my absolute favorite books. Colton by Blood just proves what a skilled and talented author Melissa Cutler truly is. It is full of pain and grief and learning to face your demons and let go of the past. It is a heartbreaking story of a man and woman determined to make a better future for themselves whose lives forever change when they cross paths.
Melissa Cutler did an amazing job writing Dr. Levi Colton. He's smart, hence the fact that he's a doctor, and he's passionate and protective and caring. He's gone through so much in his life, that he travels back to the one place he never wanted to go again so that he can get some closure. Its here, in his father's ranch, that he meets the beautiful and equally as passionate pastry chef Kate. Kate has had her fair share of shitty things happen to her that has tainted her perception of love and dreams as well, but it doesn't take away from her passion for cooking or her determination to find out who murdered her only friend at the ranch. When Levi and Kate get together its perfect and deep and wonderful. Melissa Cutler beautifully portrays two deeply wounded souls trying their best to move on from the pain of their past and make a better life for themselves. You feel all the hurt and agony that the characters do throughout the whole story. The things that have happened to both of them are so horrible and terribly sad that your heart just goes out to them immediately. Which is why it's so wonderful when they fall for one another and in each other find real love. In the book Levi says that maybe the were made to heal each other and I can't find any other way to describe just how perfect they are for one another. I won't say what happens in the story, but they both have to face their demons, make tough decisions, and find answers to their questions all the while dealing with finding a murderer on the ranch. It is an emotional and enjoyable read that will have you anxious for all of the secrets of the people on the ranch to be revealed.
Colton by Blood was simply a great book. There is a quote in it that beautifully sums up just exactly what this book is; "A reminder to hold tight to the people we care about and not waste a single moment of our time with them." It couldn't be said any better than that. This book reminds you what truly matters in life and urges you to not take it for granted. Thank you so much Melissa, for allowing me to be part of the review club!! I am eagerly awaiting the next book!!...more

Hidden Falls is a Knotted Roots novella, and it gives a glimpse into Brian and Katy's love story. It's so sweet and wonderful and fun, yet there is depth and tragedy and pain to move on from seeping from every chapter. I'm usually not a fan of novellas because many lack depth and emotion and feel rushed, but that was not the case with Hidden Falls. Ruthi Kight is a wonderfully talented author because she manages to pack so much emotion into this short story that you laugh one minute, want to punch someone the next, then grieve, and then by the end of it all you're happy and hopeful. That is a lot of emotion to fully feel in such a short span of pages, and my hat goes off to Ruthi for making it work. I loved Brian in Knotted Roots, but he was even more awesome in Hidden Falls. He's troubled, thats for sure, but he's also caring and kind to the ones he loves and protective and sarcastic and I just totally loved him. Same thing goes for Katy. She is kind and caring and sweet and sassy and I loved that we got to see her falling for Brian and see the struggle she had with crossing the line from friends to something more. I loved that we got to see things from both of their perspectives because it was really wonderful to hear how Brian felt about Katy all along. They both have inner problems that they have to face in order to move on together and life throws them a tragic curve ball, but in the end it all comes down to how they truly feel about one another. As this is an in-between novella, the ending is left open for the next book in the series. Overall, Hidden Falls is an exciting novella that begs for true love to be revealed and will leave you groveling for more. I cannot wait to see how their story continues Ruthi!!...more

I'm happy I was able to read this book because it was a light and quick read. I have been reading really long novels lately and this was a nice short break. Falling Into Lust is about a young wealthy woman who falls for a rock star. I had a love/hate relationship with Sydney because she started out as a seriously spoiled brat, only caring about money and clothes and lunch dates. But once she meets Kaz, the lead singer of one of her favorite bands, she starts to really care about him and in turn becomes a better person. Kaz is a rock star, but he doesn't care to indulge in all the stereotypical rock star behavior and for that I was grateful. There are a lot of things from both of their pasts that didn't sit well with me, but I was glad that that wasn't who they were anymore. In each other, Kaz and Sydney find something much more than lust and with Kaz's band set to go on tour soon, the ending sets up perfectly for the next in the series. Overall, it was an enjoyable and light read and I can't wait to find out how the tour affects their relationship....more

I had reviewed the first in the trilogy and absolutely loved it, so you can only imagine my joy when I was sent this one to beta. Katherine Polillo hit it out of the park. I am in love with the characters and their story and this book did not fail to make me cry multiple times. Devoted continues Michelle and Gabriel's story and takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride in order to prove that love conquers all.
Devoted picks up right where Destine leaves off and is packed with the same amount of action and devotion and all-encompassing love. From the very first page I knew this one was going to be even better than the first and as much as I loved the first, this one stole my heart. Michelle was witty and sarcastic and strong and as wonderful as ever, and don't even get me started on Gabriel. He was amazing. Cami is the beautiful and wonderful friend that she always has been and she goes through a lot of terrible things in this book, along with some really wonderful and beautiful things. I wont give it away, but I whole-hardheartedly loved what Gabriel and Michelle do at the beginning. But with the apocalypse happening, and Alex ever so present in their minds, reality sets in and they know they must start preparing again. Alex does some truly horrible and stomach turning things that set into motion Michelle's plan to bring this all to an end. Soon tragedy strikes and there are some very heart-wrenching moments. My heart literally ached during these parts and I was frantically flipping pages hoping to find where it would all be made right. I don't want to give anything away, but Michelle is given a gift and this is where all hope is renewed. There are some really amazing things that happen that make you love this book more than you could possibly imagine, and the ending sets up perfectly for the next and last in the trilogy with Michelle having to face possibly the most terrible evils of all.
Devoted lived up to Destine and even possibly surpassed it in amazing-ness. It is a beautiful and heart-shattering story that grips you until the very last page. I fell even more in love with the characters in this book and I am dying to know what will happen to all of them in the end. I cannot begin to thank Katherine Polillo enough for giving me the opportunity to beta, and I cannot even begin to describe how much I am anticipating the last in the trilogy!! ...more

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes and goosebumps all over my skin. This book absolutely took my breath away. It was by chance that I stumbled upon this author, winning a contest of hers from a blog I follow. When I started this book, I had no idea that I was going to be completely swept away and that my heart would be taken captive. In a Heartbeat is a heartbreakingly beautiful story of two broken souls who in each other find their reason to live.
In a Heartbeat centers around Stella, a person who has dealt with her fair share of heartbreak and loss, and now to top it off has been in and out of hospitals trying to rid herself of cancer. Stella is a strong character and she immediately captures your heart because you feel for her and all that she has been through in the short amount shes been alive. She cares about others more than she cares about herself and she has this wonderful heart of gold. She decides to visit her cousin in Genoa for a carefree summer where no one knows all that shes been through and she can just feel normal, and its here that she meets Max, the lifeguard that steals her heart from the moment she lays eyes on him. Max was wonderful. His personality is infectious. He's caring and fun and protective and just so wonderful. His love for Stella is so beautiful and all-consuming. The book also switches back and forth from Stella to Max and I loved that we got to see things from both of their perspectives. As much as they try not to fall in love, they helplessly do and its an absolutely breathtaking ride for the reader. You feel for them and you read late into the night to find out how this could possibly end well for either of them. And as much as this story centers around Stella and Max, there is an amazing cast of secondary characters that you come to love as though they are your very own friends and family. They all have things going on in their lives that make for nice additions to the story. I absolutely refuse to tell you anything about how the story plays out because this is a book that you have to experience on your own, without any spoilers. But I will tell you that there are secrets kept and secrets revealed, hurdles for everyone to overcome, and serious choices to be made that will affect both of their futures. The end is what brought me to tears. It is beautiful, and emotional, and just the most absolutely perfect ending anyone could have hoped for. It doesn't leave anything out and you get a peek into what happens to everyone down the road.
I can't thank you enough Teodora. This book has just completely turned me into a crying mess, but in the most beautiful way. It's rare for a book to do that to me, but you've done it. For anyone that is debating reading this, I can promise you that it will not be a waste of your time. I can't promise that you won't laugh, or hurt, or even cry throughout it, but I can promise that it will make you just completely feel.
I'll leave you with a quote that perfectly sums up the message in the story: "Dont exist. Live."...more
