Starting from first chapter one can easily realize that the writer hated the royal family, and it gets to such a disgusting stage that I personally couldn't read it any more. The book is claimed to be written by mother of former empress of Iran (Farah Diba-Pahlavi) and is claimed to be written originally in French during the time the mother was living in France after revolution. After reading first chapters, I started believing that the book is published in Iran just to wide-spread the hatred of Pahlavi dynasty and to glorify the revolution. Then I started to do some research about originality of this book and came across to comments of Farah Pahlavi herself about this book, mentioning that her mother has never written a book in her life time, and she didn't even know French that fluently let alone writing a book in French. Well I really regret the time I spent to read the first chapters of this book, the only good point about this wasted time was looking at the photos of royal family and celebrations, but even for seeing them you don't need to touch this book, use google instead. ...more

Stephan has written a very interesting narrative about his trip to Iran. I loved how nicely he has described the nowadays Iran, and iranians without any biased point of view. He has lived there as an average Iranian, and has been to many cities not just touristic ones, but also the ones on the borders. I loved to read about my country from a point of view of a foreigner traveler. I have learned a lot from this story, never had an opinion about some specific groups of people, who I might have considered as conservative, but learned that even these people are open-minded. It was funny to read that things which are quite normal for me can be interesting or strange for a foreigner, reading some parts I was actually laughing with tears in eyes. I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to read about Iran without political aspects casting shade on the story. ...more

The first thing I realized while reading this book was how even small or unthoughtful reactions/behaviors of us can affect someone else's life, better be more careful before talking or writing an email. I've learned pretty much from this book, but was also at some point bored with repetitive examples, and chapters, on the other hand sometimes I felt like this book is an advertisement for Carneiges's courses or talks.
Anyway, I have learned from this book, and have started using its advices in my daily life. ...more
