Nothing but years of inbreeding could produce a nose so razor-thin, eyes so bored, a mouth so cynical, and an air of such perfect disinterest that it avoided arrogance by a hair"

Now however her foster mother a powerful witch is dying.
Before using her cursed touch to ease her mothers suffering ,she is given an amulet,a key to of Tineroth a city of legend. Perhaps if she seek out the immortal sorcerer king he will be able to cure her of her affliction.
Caught between a "meh" and a "at least it wasnt horrible"
The beginning seemed rather promising until heroine actually arrives in the city. Then the story and romance feels rushed. More lust than love.
I also found it a bit offputting that Cededa the Fair aka the Butcher came across so cold and unfeeling in regards to some events that happened in the past. Maybe this story could have been expanded to a longer format to realize its potential but as it is now I would rather re-read Master of Crows
Is Tineroth the same city/ruin as the one Silhara and Martise visit and only just escape in that book by the way? I got that impression....more
Julian Rowne has been dead for many years when he shocks his brother-in-law by turning up in his bookroom, very much alive. Returning to the country andJulian Rowne has been dead for many years when he shocks his brother-in-law by turning up in his bookroom, very much alive. Returning to the country and and family he abandoned, his return is met by shock and anger by his wife Clarice,Lady Rowne.
I cant admire a "hero" who not only let his wife and children believe he was dead for four years none the less leaving his wife as she was heavily pregnant.Spy buisness or not that was horrible behavior.
"Did you by any chance know that Clare was breeding when you left?” he asked. Yes.” Yes,' " Peter mimicked. ”That's all? Just like that? 'Yes'?” Julian said nothing. Are you even interested in the outcome?” I feel sure you'll tell me.” It was a girl, called Julia. After you.” Peter threw up his hands in a gesture that might have been disgust or defeat and was in fact a little of both. "What do you mean to do now? See her?” That depends, doesn't it? You still haven't told me if she has married again.” p 13
Does it mean that you have suddenly become the ideal husband who never even looks at another woman?” she asked with a watery* laugh.
He answered her with a smile. "I doubt if I'm capable of that much perfection.” p 69
*what on Earth is a watery laugh? Fluid on the lungs?

HisLailas father has told one untrue boast too many times and she finds herself taken away by force by the Kings guard to an audience with the king. His demand:Spin him a room full of straw into gold and she will keep her head.
Locked inside the dungeon Laila contemplates burning herself to death to escape being executed ,for there is really no way she could ever spin one thread of straw into gold,a strange man appears and tells her he spin the straw into gold and save her Life.
For a price...
This story is as you know a retelling of the Rumpelstiltskin fairytale, wich and I suppose we have the tv-series Once upon a time to to thank for making him popular. This book doesnt quite manage to spin (pun intended) a tale that makes the particular Rumpelstiltskin into a seductive character. The sexual elements just feels very off when considering they pop up suddenly instead of building the sexual tension up...it just feels akward.
The main character goes from someone that has likeable traits to someone that is completely unlikable. She makes a bargain with the king to become his Queen. This is similar to the fairytale but while this is something I can take in stride in the original story In this retelling its stated from the beginning that Laila finds the king repulsive. So when she wants to become the Queen its a complete turn around from how she feels about him....more
The end ing of this book made me feel very unsatisfied Maybe its because the twist is revealed in the first half instead of in the second half.
I willThe end ing of this book made me feel very unsatisfied Maybe its because the twist is revealed in the first half instead of in the second half.
I will admit i am not an expert on the care of juvenile offenders but i find it impossible to believe a girl who stabbed another girl with scissors would be allowed to return to an environment where there are vulnerable young girls who would be endangered
The book also suffers from some bad formatting as passages that are meant to be in italics arent causing the writing to become confusing....more

HeRykkon is in the Group of warriors who go to the human encampment. About 20 years ago the strange aliens crashed on their planet and was rounded up
He is surprised when a battered Young woman rushes out and asks to go with them back to where they live in Exchange for becoming mate to one of them. The other warriors scoffs at it but Rykkon accepts as he knows he will most likely not get Another chance to take a mate. Despite holding an important Place among his people as their only healer he is tolerated only for that.
This book is not awful but it isnt very good either. The story just gets very dull and repetitive after a while. To make it even harder there is really not much Chemistry between the couple and the story drags on a bit too long.
After the prologue I pretty much guessed what was Rykkons BIG secret....more
