At frist I did not understand and found it hard to "relate" to the character...but as it progressed I understood Charlie a bit more and understood that there was something "off" about him. The second half of the book I thought was better then the first half and was able to find myself able to finish the book after struggling at first to make it through it.(less)

Its filled with action, suspense, romance, secrets, betrayal and conflict...everything I could wish for in a book. It picked off just where the last book ended and moved quickly. Tris was not so focused in the book and was going back and forth with what is the right thing to do and dealing with the deaths of her parents and her shooting Will. Then on top of it she wants to do the right things by Tobias (Four) but he is making it difficult. She is trying to find herself and what it means to be Divergent. But as much as she wants to stand by Tobias she does stand up for herself and does her own things despite what he says. I love how she’s a strong leading character who is not souly driven by a man. Also, you find out even how your own family could be working agaisnt you and I was in shock to find out that Caleb was working against Tris and going back to the Eurdite and telling them all about her... The end of the book leaves you with a huge cliffhanger and wanting more. I am looking forward to seeing how Veroncia Roth is going to tie the book together in the final book. (less)

Also, it didn’t focus souly on the romance... but towards the end I thought it got a little to fast-passed how all of a sudden everything came falling down at once.
I loved how we seen Tris grow into her own person. But at times it seemed like she "grew" too fast.. how she was getting beat up and then magically she was able to be the best fighter out there?.. But she was a stronge unique character. Then Four, I loved him from every second in the book. He was just who he was and he never thought twice about it. The way he would hold Tris and how he looked out for her but yet he knew she wasn’t weak and would let her try to stand on her own two feet.. and then you could see how much Tris meant to him because she was able to snap him out of what they injected him with.
I cant wait for the second book to come out for I can see how it progresses. (less)

Travis made me love him and then hate him. I love books were the guy is avoiding have a real relationship and then one special person comes along that makes him feel again. He was a good looking badass who did not change for Abby but he just wanted to be with her. but in the end he was a bit to obsessive over her and seemed like he was going to drop dead if she wasn’t standing next to him every second of everyday. he seemed not able to function with out her which I did not really find great. (The guy should be able to stand on his own two feet with our with out his girl). It seemed like since he never did have a loving long lasting relationship that he became fixated on just Abby. Even when she would push away he would not have it.
Then Abby, she was great at times... but she seemed like she only wanted to date the other guy to get under Travis skin and to prove to herself that Travis was nothing more then a friend.. But yet she would still jump in the bed with him after her dates. Then onces she finally let Travis in the romance just went way to fast for my liking.
Overall, I really did enjoy the book but I did not like how it turned into them traveling to Vegas to play Poker to save her dead beat Dad.... but overall very good. (less)

I could sit for endless hours reading this book. It's so much more then just a angst romance book. None of the characters were perfect (Loring was kind of perfect though) like some other books, these characters were genuine and easy to picture and relate too as a person... characters that had real problems and had to somewhat struggle with money and with there relationships (and each relationship talked about though out the book had its problems good and bad or really bad.). You were able to see the bad side of relationships and that its a struggle and not a fantasy world when you are in love... that relationships are stressful, fun, sad, happy and all of the other emotions. Eliza made a decision that she thought was for the better but ended up not working out.. but she did it for the right reasons. She did not want Paul just to stay with her for she cannot share him; she wanted him to live her dreams even if that meant breaking up with him. Its hard to find that today were someone is that selfless that she can give up something she loves for someone can do something they love. (less)

Sometimes I found it hard to get through to the next chapter but then at times I could not stop reading it. Kiera did grow from her mistakes but had a huge trust issue with Kellan and that in the end made her want to hide Denny being in town from him which was out right wrong to being with. I think she even said "if hes going to hide something from me I want to hide something from him". That is not a good way to start off a relationship.. but her had her reasons to have trust issues with Kellan because he was known as a "player" and there relationship did start off in a bad way. But in the end he did get her named tattooed acrossed his chest.
I loved how in this book Kiera was able to let go a little bit and have fun, all thanks to Kellan. He was brining out the best of her and that is what every realationship needs. You could see how they burned for each other and how in the end they were really were soulmates in the end. They got passed "most" of there issues but S.C. Stephens left room for another book on how Kiera and Kellan live there life(less)
