Its characters remind us of our faults, our frailty and our fortitude, both as individuals and as a culture. It is, in part, a story of friendship: of the way in which friendship deepens the humanity of those it touches. Yet it also is the story of awakening: of the awareness that we humans wear blinders; of the removal of those blinders; and of the conscious decision whether to replace the blinders or not. I found myself deeply moved by The Wednesday Sisters. It seemed to sneak up and unravel my emotions before I realized what was happening. The Wednesday Sisters made me laugh and cry, almost simultaneously. And when I turned the last page, I knew I was going to miss my friends, the Wednesday sisters: Frankie, Linda, Kath, Brett and Ally.(less)
