The author spent fours researching the book, leaving so stone unturned as she diligently puts together the facts in case, the often contradictory accounts by those involved with the political and economic complexities of South Africa then and now. As I delved into the book, I once again reminded how complicated and maybe undiscoverable the truth can be in catastrophic times and war, as behavior and actions are often dictated by the best decision to be made at the moment. While the narrative stalls at times with a little too much repetition there is no doubt that this is a powerful story of racism, economic denial, and the oppression of poverty. I recommend this book to history lovers and those interested in social and economic change.

A mishap during an amorous moment has African-American pianist and budding composer Eve Riser fleeing to Chicago with money and a note for a white man named Rudy Hardy. While at the meeting spot Eve is approached by two men claiming to be Rudy Hardy, one of which is Rudy’s sister Lena disguised in an army uniform, as shots from a truck fires shots at the three. Recovering from wounds, Eve finds out that Rudy is dead, Lena is nurse, her pregnant sister, Chickie, has disappeared and the money and note are missing. As Eve and Lena seeks answers a complex maze of deceits, ambitions, and secrets may be more than they bargained for. The well-researched historical details of the vicious battles of the Prohibition gangs, the addictive draw of jazz, and the blatant racism adds an elevated edge to the mystery and nicely balances the storyline. I enjoyed the strong no-nonsense characters, Eve and Lena as they tried to remain true to their nature in a time where gender and race predetermined your place in society. The supporting cast was very full, and it does take a while to sort out who’s who. Overall this is an entertaining smooth-paced gritty read for fans of historical mysteries.

Gabrielle “Gabby” Royce, talented executive chef at a high-class resort, is steadfast about several things in her life,Review from RomanceInColor.com
Gabrielle “Gabby” Royce, talented executive chef at a high-class resort, is steadfast about several things in her life, providing clients with the upmost dining experience, proving to her affluent family she does not need to adhere to their unyielding rules, and never mix sex and her career. That is until, sexiness personified storms into her kitchen to give Gabby a dressing down for the restaurant’s neglectful service. Domineering Geoffrey Girard, wealthy music executive, is bowled over by her professionalism and sassy personality. What neither of them expected was the utter hotness of mutual attraction between them. Geoffrey wants a chance to get to know all the complexities of Gabby, but Geoffrey is a client and that means he is off-limits. How much is Gabby willing to risk for the man who is “every undefined detail” she wants?
Perry has penned a luscious romance of two controlling personalities who learn being blind-sided isn’t a bad thing, sometimes the best surprises come out of it. Gabby has no regrets about her past and has worked hard to achieve her dreams. She is a perfectionist and controlling. The steadfast rules she lives by puts her in a quandary as her heart and head does battle once she meets Geoffrey. Geoffrey is all alpha male but once he makes up his mind to pursue Gabby he learns what is necessary to get her to trust him. His patience and magnetism allows Gabby to figure out how to pursue their relationship. I thought a couple of the scene transitions could have been smoother and vague references to past incidents slowed the flow but the couple’s personalities and antics quickly pulled me back into the storyline. The initial meeting between Gabby and Geoffrey is one of the best and hottest sexual tension scenes I have read. And all of their intimate scenes that follow sizzle and burn up the pages.
HOT SUMMER NIGHTS is the second book in the California Desert Dream continuity has the connecting theme revolving around the mysterious mishaps at the posh Belleza Resort and Spa and the three best friends female executives. Gabby has to deal with kitchen accidents while ensuring that Gabriel considers hosting events at the resort. The ambience of the resort and diverse characters provide the necessary background to move the storyline along. The ending preps the reader for the final book in this trilogy.
Overall HOT SUMMER NIGHTS is a delicious story as the readers watch the couple negotiate their pasts and indulge in a charmingly sensuous journey to their happily-ever-after....more
Taciturn seriousness is the façade controlling undefeated boxer Joaquin Ryder life as he prepares for his next fight, uReviewed for RomanceInColor.com
Taciturn seriousness is the façade controlling undefeated boxer Joaquin Ryder life as he prepares for his next fight, until a promise to a family friend tests his fortitude. Vivacious Pro NFL publicist Martha Blue is a temptation for any man, and now Joaquin is tasked with ensuring her scandalous behavior does not jeopardize her family’s business. Martha is working on shedding her irresponsible party girl image which is now in jeopardy of being sidetracked by the nearness of Joaquin. As their witty catch-and-release bantering does little to relieve their hungry sexual tension from their unresolved past, the couple agree to surrender to their passions for one night. Will their heads or their hearts win this fight?
Perry has solidified her reputation as a writer of edgy heartfelt romances as she dazzles readers with multi-layered characters and a passion-driven plot in this amazing story. Martha is a strong heroine who grows into her strength and takes control of her life. There is more to Martha than meets the eye as we learn of her academic accomplishments, her willingness to give of herself to others and relish in her sensuality with the right man. Joaquin’s hard scrapple childhood and his caution of women have formed him into a driven determined man, often putting his emotions aside to be honorable and trustworthy. Joaquin struggles to keep control and has to work through his guilt of wanting Martha as his woman. The highly sensual sex scenes have enough heat and tension to ignite the pages. And who does not love an alpha hero who is both dangerous and desirable in every breath he takes.
While the Las Vegas setting adds glitz and glamour, it is the secondary storylines that adds unanticipated twists and turns to not only showcase the characters but provides the extra layer of fullness and richness to this emotional romance storyline. The appearances of the Blue family members will satisfy readers of the series and add the necessary continuity to the insight of their family dynamics.
JUST FOR CHRISTMAS NIGHT is the third book in the Blue Dynasty series. This book grabs the reader from the first page so be prepared to finish the book in one sitting. I highly recommend this book for its powerful writing, exquisite exploration of self, the sumptuous sensuality that is stunning and heart-melting as Martha and Joaquin find their happily-ever-after....more
