Just enough real history to keep the fastastical elements from turning to smelly cheese. I was thoroughly entertained and found the retelling of Lincoln's life respectful and at the very least true to his character if not true to life. I'll even see the movie I think.(less)

Rich Roll nearly lost everything in his life despite seemingly having it all. After getting sober and finding the woman of his dreams he still was heading down the road to death due to the American diet he ate and the lifestyle he cultivated. After an aha moment at almost 40 he turned it all around on a plant powered diet to become one of the world's fittest men.
Over all I liked this book. It was an easy read and full of inspiration as well as information on how plant powered living can be done. Kudos Mr Roll. I look forward to seeing what comes next from you and I'm inspired to shoot for some things I've been putting on the back burner in my life as well.(less)

I didn't realize this is truly only part 1 of a two part story and was a bit disappointed at the end. And no I didn't rush out to get "Fall of Hyperion". I did read the Wikipedia article though, heh. I think I'll read something with a little more fluff to it first.(less)

Even Q got to be passably likeable by the end. However, the ending wasn't one of them. I read this after reading "The Magicians" hoping - I know this is a piss-poor reason for reading it - that Grossman would redeem the main character. He did, kinda, and then . . . Well, listen - if you get even part way through "The Magicians" and hate it you won't like this any better.Kudos Mr Grossman for sucking me in to this book, but I've learned my lesson. You won't get me again.(less)

I really wish the author had started the story around 300 pages in. By the end things really pick up, people die, magic happens, and the protagonist gets everything he ever wanted and still manages to be miserable. Ah, well. I must say I have went on to the sequel in the hopes this character finally learns something. Well played Mr Grossman. Well played.(less)
