Huge hype over this book and unsuccessfully live up my expectation. Well, if I'd like to compare it with Hunger Games, Divergent didn't have a gripping plotline and world-building. The world building itself it's so plain and boring (I fell asleep 3x while reading the opening chapters)
Divergent's world is built on a very shaky foundation. It's also pretty weak and dull. Although, I like the idea of Faction but somewhat it isn't believable.
The plotline is so dragging and boring plus the ending feels forced. With this typical plotline I don't think you need a 487 pages of novel.
The characterization also way dull and unappealing. I really don't care what will happen to Tris and the rest of people in this story.
Bottom line, skip this series and just read Delirium (seriously it will worth your time)(less)

I really couldn't process my brain and believe Tessa Novak as one. If she's a real one, the streets and its people would easily chew her up. Her character at some point could be a borderline annoying. She's bawling and whining everytime she hits a trouble and well, trouble she's looking herself. She's definitely not a street smart.
As for the hero, Julian Dearcangel -- he might be a badass but his character isn't engaging enough. He's just like... some hot dude. That's it!
But I do love the story, it is always saddened myself everytime I read or watch story about human trafficking especially young women to be sold as sex slave :(
It is a good background story though, unlike Extreme Exposure which I do feel "the investigation journalism" vibe, on Hard Evidence, I don't feel it. It seems more focusing Tessa and Julian romance.
Anyway, you can skipped this one and moving on to Unlawful Contact (which I heard everyone raved about its awesomeness)(less)

I bet it will be fun.
I really like the way the crime and suspense could blend nicely with its romance sprinkles. Recommended!(less)

Well, it doesn't mean is a badly written book. It has a promising plot line even it is in familiar territorial. Vampire and Dan Brown-ish type of story.
Yep. Vampire theme is somewhat overrated after those sparkling-vampires. Vampire somewhat loses its grace and their enchanting-horror.
Anyway, I gave shot for this book because I crave a nice vampire story and I do like Dan Brown. With those combined expectation, I thought I might find glorifying and terrifying moment from this book (Woosssahhh..)
Big expectation, 'aight? Let's talk about the good and the bad from this book.
Me Likey! 1. It is fast paced and packed with action. Probably it is the main reason I didn't put down the book. 2. Rhun, from all those trio main characters, he is the one who (at least) could hold his characterization. He is priest and vampire, what an interesting combination. I love the idea of Rhun.
Meh! 1. Erin, the female lead -- she is an archaeologist, she's smart but plain. Her personality is just don't stick out. Her character is so replaceable. 2. And there's Jordan, he is an army sergeant and all american hero stereotype. And of course he has to be hot and....blond. 3. This is the worst -- The main story is all about finding Blood Gospel, a holy book written by Jesus's blood and they must prevent it to fall into enemy's hand. This is the most unconvincing thing I've ever read. I mean all of it. Especially the Blood Gospel itself, it's so lack of its glory to be The Most Important Book in history of humankind. I could give a rat ass about it!
So, I recommend you to just borrow the book instead of buying it. It is a quick read since it's fast paced and action-packed. It is like Michael Bay summer movie!(less)
