At first, it came across as a typical zombie book with humans doing what they could to survive. It kind of felt like the typical, run of the mill zombie storyline - that is, until the necromancers came into play. It was a great plot twist that really had me wanting to read more. What are they? How did they come into being? What else can they do? I loved the action and suspense - Travis definitely has a talent for pulling his readers into the story.
One thing that I didn't like about the book was that I didnt realize that Asher is a man until around the 9th chapter. I get very strong pictures of characters in my mind from the beginning of a book, and I made the assumption that the lead character was female (which would have made her AWESOME) - I felt that should have been made clear from the start. Honestly, because I received an ARC and the spelling needs work, and I initially thought it was a pronoun error. I also felt the sexual undertones and gratuitous (multiple) romantic encounters were unnecessary. For me they were awkward, didnt fit well within the story, and they simply detracted from an otherwise great read. If you can get passed these things (I obviously could not) and like Zombie movies/stories/games, then this is the book for you.(less)

Sheri writes in a way that connects you with the characters. From the beginning, I was drawn in by her writing style and the story itself. I found myself empathizing with Claire and feeling the pain of potentially losing everything.
When things ventured into the afterlife, I still found the story interesting and wanted to read more. Unfortunately, when the main plot turned to reincarnation and spirit guides I was a bit thrown off. It's not that spirituality is a reason to stop reading a book, I am quite spiritual myself. It just seemed so far from where I thought the book was going and I'm personally not fond of reading about this type of spirituality.
If that's something you enjoy reading then this would be good book for you(less)

I found the story intriguing enough that I continued reading even through the slower parts of the book. Since Erin has amnesia of some sort, I felt very connected to her throughout the story - never truly knowing who was trustworthy until the end. I wouldn't say this book was amazing, but it was good enough that i definitely want to continue reading the series.(less)
