Trevor is visiting the Isle of Skye as a way to find peace from his oppressive and homophobic family, his lonely life is wearing him down and he is looking for a connection in the land that his family left many years before. A night under an old oak tree gives Trevor a glimpse of true happiness but before he can find true peace he has to throw off the concerns of what other people think. Darach has been sleeping for centuries, with the return of the magick Darach and his darag awaken to a new time and a man who manages to steal Darach's heart. But can they both put aside their fears to bask in their scorching desire and love?
This is a wonderful whimsical feeling story that is infused with passion with a twist of angst. Trevor is returning to his family roots to visit distant family and to get away from his oppressive life, a life where he has to hide his true self. Beneath an oak tree he discovers a mysterious man who gives him a night of passion and a longing for so much more. Darach has just awoken from a long sleep and the human under his tree calls to him, Darach discovers that Trevor has done something that no one, human or otherwise, has ever done before, he has forged a connection that Darach has never experienced before.
We fall into a story that has longing, yearning, want and need, it drags us into a world that is whimsical yet passionate and has two men who find what they have always wanted, but who have insecurities that could tear them apart. Trevor is a man who longs for what he wants but doesn't think he will get it and when he does he becomes scared because the man he falls for isn't a man from his world. Darach is a tree spirit tied to the magick of his oak tree, Trevor becomes his dream so very easily and Darach begins to feel things he has never felt before and it has Darach believing himself a fool when Trevor runs from his fears.
This was a very easy story to be enraptured with, I was pulled along by the whimsical feel and mysterious dreamlike quality of the story. Both characters made me want to know more about them and what they had been through in the past, when they came together for the first time it was passionate and explosive and had me wanting more from them. The writing is wonderful, giving you the whole incredible story without being too whimsical or too angsty but giving you plenty of passion and longing.
I recommend this to those who love paranormal based on the old world tales, characters who have longings for something more, incredible passionate sex, some angst, forgiveness and finding a place to call home.(less)
This book is part of a series and must be read in order. Simeon is a mountain lion shifter and part of the Underground working to break the choke-hold that the Glitnir councils has on all paranormals, when he meets Asher, the half blood demon, his attraction for the sexy blood demon flairs. Asher is a blood demon and is a slave and a warrior, he keeps his family connections secret. When his half brother Phin asks for his help he doesn't know if he can take the chance, especially when he has an annoying mountain lion shifter with him. Together Simeon and Asher have to convince the mountain lion guild to join them against the elves who are trying to take over the throne, and to give the blood demons their freedom. But will Asher's and Simeon's attraction prove to be a distraction from what is important to the Underground and the freedom of the paranormals?
Well, well, well, we go further afield in this addition to the Supernatural Bounty Hunters series by entering the Second Kingdom and discovering just how far the Giltnir council rot has spread. Simeon is a character that has you wondering if he ever cared about anything other than his problems because his complete disregard when he first meets Asher has you wanting to slap him, but he does redeem himself quite nicely. Asher has every right to be aloof, with the fear of what could happen if anyone ever discovered who his father is hovering over his head and the treatment of Blood demons, it is no wonder that he tries to keep Simeon at arms length.
We see some changes beginning in this story and the progression of the overall storyline throughout the series is moving forward at a very nice pace, the threads connecting the different species is getting stronger and the Underground movement is gaining force. With this story we have some exciting developments that effect both Simeon and Asher, we see a desperate attempt to stop an usurper from taking over the Elven throne and the Felines are pushed to action, but the best thing in this story has to be their relationship that starts out rocky, but it won't be denied.
Both Asher and Simeon are great characters and their relationship moves quickly, it's also very hot with both characters being passionate. The writing is good and flows pretty smoothly and we see characters from previous books so we can see how they are doing and the strain that their revolution is having on them. I must admit to enjoying this story and the way it is progressing, it is opening up further to include a wider range of species, drawing them together for a better future.
I recommend this story to those who love the paranormal in all it's variety, great characters who make you react, a brilliant storyline that has far to go and a love that stands through danger and change and a great ending. (less)
Jerath is impatiently waiting for his fangs to drop, but he is also filled with dread. When his fangs drop it is a sign of his coming of age and he will have to perform the Choosing rite on the full moon if he wants to have his animal form, but the rite calls for sex with a female and Jerath only likes boys. But, Jerath also has a bigger worry when his village is raided and the males are taken, Jerath and his best friend Serim have to seek aid from the southern lands before time runs out for some young villagers and they lose their chance at the rite. Jerath discovers his mate on their journey but Meren, a young warrior, can't leave his own village and is unsure if he wants a permanent partner.
This is a great coming of age story that has a wonderful fantasy storyline. Jerath is the young man we follow in this story as he comes of age, finds his mate and seeks aid to rescue his village. We see the difficulty he faces as he both longs for and dreads his fangs dropping, he watches his village being raided, he undertakes the journey for aid and then the rescue of his fellow villagers. On top of that we see his relationship with his mate as it goes through the ups and downs that both young men face.
I did enjoy this story and was only disappointed with one aspect of the story which I will come to later. The world that is described comes to life as we delve deeper into the book, we see a fascinating culture as the villagers work and live together and their customs as the full moon approaches. We see the deep and loving friendship between Jerath and Serim and then the unsure new relationship between Jerath and Meren and the difficult decisions they have to make. There is some excitement and danger as they rescue Jerath's fellow villages, but there is also fear as a misunderstanding comes to light. Meren and Jerath are a wonderful couple and suit each other perfectly once they both decide they know what they want, they are really sweet and cute and as they experiment with each other and further their relationship they are hot.
The problem that I had with this story is the rite that Jerath had to undergo, he HAS to have sex with a female to become a shifter and seeing as he is very much gay he had to take a special berry that would help him out.... so he was drugged. I really had a hard time making sense of that part of the storyline especially seeing as his mate was male. The Goddess decided that the males can shift if they go through the Choosing ritual with a female but will lose the shift if they don't.... so why would any of the males be gay?.... or their mates male?, it sticks in my craw that these men are forced to have sex with a female to get their animal half and they have no choice.... they lose a part of themselves if they don't. And yes the mf sex is very much in evidence and although it was handled beautifully it still pissed me off.
I recommend this to those who love a fantasy world with shifters, young adults coming into their own, discovering something you have always longed for, finding love in trying times, danger and rescues and a wonderful happy ending. (less)
This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Duncan is asked to find a young man when his boyfriend comes to him begging for his help, discovering the details leads Duncan to suspect that the young man has fallen victim to some paranormal villainy and he takes the case. With the help of Robbie, his ghost boyfriend, and Gina, a witch, he discovers a band who are all vampires. But as he sets out to destroy them he finds it hard to dismiss his attraction to the Dominic, the leader of the vampires, and his dark allure. Duncan is forced to confront his feelings for Nick, his friend, and Robbie as he tries to resist the vampires call.
Okay this is the first story in this series that I have read but there was enough detail so I didn't think I had missed anything from the previous books, you could easily pick up any of the books and be comfortable reading them. It was very easy to pick up that Duncan is devoted to Robbie, even though Robbie is a ghost Duncan still loves him, but Duncan feels an attraction to Nick. The relationships are going on in the background as Duncan investigates the missing young man and then the hunt for the vampires, but it constantly lingers in Duncan's mind.
This really isn't an easy book to review as although we have a fantastic vampire storyline we also have the complicated relationship between Duncan, Robbie and Nick which is really tangled up with feelings, longings and impossible love. If you have read the previous books then you know how Duncan hasn't been able to let Robbie go or to commit to anything more than friendship with Nick, but we discover that Robbie might just take the decision out of Duncan's hands.
The vampire aspect is exciting as Duncan pits himself against them and tries to fight them alone before calling his friends for help. Nick also has some surprises in store for us with a choice he makes. The story is really well written and you get drawn into Duncan's life very easily, you follow the storyline at an easy pace and there is no confusion as to what is happening. The relationship aspect is complicated and seems to be a long story arc so we will have to see in the future what is going to happen between Duncan, Nick and Robbie.
I recommend this to those who love the paranormal, complicated love lives, excitement, investigations, danger, a great storyline and an interesting ending. (less)
This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Tristan finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place when he meets his mate, while he is delighted to meet his mate he is horrified to learn that he is a reporter who is there to dig up the truth behind the fires that plagued the town. Joey is an ambitious reporter determined to get to the truth, but when he gets involved with local Tristan he discovers more than he bargained for. Tristan has to discover if he can trust Joey with the towns secrets and Joey has to decide if a story is more important than love.
This is a great addition to the Shifter's Haven series giving us a new couple with problems to solve and a storyline that weaves previous plots into this one. Tristan is feeling the weight of pressure from his brother and pack when he discovers his mate Joey, after all Joey is asking questions that they can't answer to a human, but Tristan doesn't want to deny his mate. Joey is instantly attracted to Tristan and thinks he knows one of the towns secrets, but it isn't long before he realizes his error. Joey knows he has a hard choice before him and although Tristan has come to mean everything to him, giving up his dreams is hard to do.
Tristan and Joey make a great couple and they do face some hostility at first because of Joey's job, but a mate is a mate and Joey's job isn't their only problem. We discover that the storyline from Pete's Persuasion lingers on with the discovery that the arsonist has sort protection from another pack, the news astounds the pack but Joey and Tristan have more to worry about when wolves attack them. We see both Tristan and Joey suffer from their decision and it takes them both long enough to pull their heads out of their arses and come up with a way to be together.
I did enjoy this story and enjoyed seeing the wolves of Wolf Creek again, seeing how they had moved on from the devastation that befell them in Pete's Persuasion and catching up with the hunt for Evelyn. The story is well written and a nice light easy read, there's a couple of tense scenes and some great sex scenes and it was also really nice to see that although there's still the instant attraction and the urge to mate, it isn't easy sailing for Joey and Tristan.
I recommend this to those who love shifters, a progressing storyline, great characters, a touch of danger, great sex, hot shifters and a brilliant ending. (less)
Bren is on the run with an angel, he is running for his life after being told he is part God and a homicidal God wants the powers he will develop. The only good to come out of his new found knowledge is his protector Dar, the hunky angel, who Bren has fallen in love with. Dar knows full well that Bren is holding enormous power that is just waiting to be tapped into, but being chased down isn't making it easy to train Bren. Calling in Gods to assist in protecting and training Bren is easier said than done, but protecting the demigod he has fallen in love with is his most challenging task yet.
This is a pretty good paranormal/fantasy story that entertains with its gods and goddess', power struggles and god fights. The first thing I will say about this story is it shouldn't have been titled 'Strange Angels' it should have been titled 'Strange Gods' because these Gods are strange. Bren lived his life as a simple human before being attacked and rescued by Dar, but now he is a demigod in waiting on an adventure that takes him through gods dimensions and meeting temperamental gods some who want to destroy him.
We don't really see much of Bren and Dar's relationship other than charge and protector, but we have brief moments where we discover how close they are either through words or actions. This story is all about Bren and his struggle to gain control of his powers while dodging the gods who want the power for themselves. We meet an interesting selection of strange gods and there are some humorous moments, there are also attacks and some power struggles and mini battles as the gods choose sides.
I recommend this to those who enjoy angels and gods, a love that is strong and fierce, some humor, interesting characters, a great storyline filled with danger and a touch of angst and a really sweet ending. (less)
This story is part of a series and is best read in order.Evan hasn't had muc...moreBite Me, Too by Jana Downs 4 Hearts Review written for MM Good Book Reviews
This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Evan hasn't had much luck with his sHarmony dates and much prefers to play in a hacker hangout with Blackjoy, a fellow computer expert. He has slightly flirtatious chats and develops a slight crush, but on his next date he meets a shifter he is strongly attracted to. Brandon enjoys playing with WrightTrigger on Hackverse and during a security update he recognizes some of WrightTrigger's work, it gives him the perfect opportunity to meet the man who intrigues him. Their relationship heats up but there are outside threats that threaten what they are building together.
Ohhhh Evan, you are a delightful and Brandon, you are just a touch sneaky. I really enjoyed this story, the groundwork is laid out early between Brandon and Evan with them first meeting on-line building up a budding friendship, and then, later meeting face to face with only one of them knowing the other is really their hacker friend. Evan and Brandon make a great couple, although they try to take it slow so Evan can be secure in his choice of man, they have a lot in common and enjoy each others company. But than Humans First (bigoted group) step up their game plan and Evan finds out the downfalls of being mated to a shifter.
This is a great storyline which I thought was great, we get a bit more information about the way shifters are treated by the human government *grrr* and we see the lengths that Humans First will go to to try and purify the world. Evan wants to wait until he is certain till he is turned but a slight mishap moves up the timeline, and Oh My God he is sooooo cute as a shifter... and funny, the swimming pool incident had me giggling my head off, even now thinking back on it I can't stifle a laugh. Brandon's shifted form is one I'd never want to meet but compliments Evan's in a weird sort of way.
We see characters we met in Bite Me, with Orion getting a surprise and we catch up with Jude and Logan, and we are introduced to Quinn (receptionist at sHarmony and Brandon's best friend). I have to say that this was a very satisfying story with danger, disapproval, prejudice, bigotry and on the other side of the spectrum, love, humor, great friends and enormous support. I really can't wait for what is to come next.
I recommend this to those who love shifters, brilliant characters, hot sex, sweet love, disappointment and hurt, friends pulling together in times of need and a great ending. (less)
Ohh I loved this new shifter story with it's interesting take on shifters. Jude is a proper cutie and is really fed up with his abysmal love life, he has always had a thing for shifters.... well the ones in his romance books anyway, so when he and his friends stumble across sHarmony, a dating site that caters to humans and shifters, he signs up and meets the love of his life on the first date *yay*. Logan is a wonderful man who took his little brother in when their parents died, most dates run when they discover this though, Logan is also fed up of dating shifters who subscribe to the 3 second rule "your eyes meet, one second, you take a breath, two seconds, you fall in love, three seconds." Logan wants a relationship of substance and signing up for a date with a human seems like the way to go. Not everything is rosy for the couple though because of outside interference and they have to support each other when the prejudice and bigotry begin.
So a new series and a newish take on shifters. Shifters are known to the world, most have accepted them but there are some groups that like enforce their bigotry. Human's can be changed by a virus from their mate but there is no real way of telling what their animal would be, the animal is linked to the humans personality. I liked how it was all set out and easily explained, there was no confusion or mystery just a easy explanation. The story flowed well, with everything coming together to make an enjoyable story with very likable characters, Jude and Logan were both delightful and their relationship moved quickly but with a huge amount of passion and a good dose of friendship between them.
The secondary characters were great, Evan, Collin and Orion all adding something to the story, you just know they will get their own stories in the future. While Jude and Logan's relationship is perfect for them, others try to make trouble for them and they both face a bit of danger. The shifter aspect was fascinating, especially trying to guess what type of shifter Jude would turn into... and he is so cute when he does.
I recommend this to those who love shifters, hot sex, great characters, tension and a touch of danger, a great story and a wonderful ending. (less)
This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Breck has landed himself in trouble, he made a deal with a demon to save his sisters life and all he has to do is use his teleporting abilities to get objects for the demon in return... objects that belong to others. Manny hears that there is a teleporter popping up around town and decides to check him out and see if he understands what he is, but things take a strange turn when Manny discovers the trouble Breck has landed himself in and the reason. As Breck and Manny try to discover a way out from under the demon, the demon sets his sights on Manny, and Manny and Breck decide to fight fire with fire.
This is a great story that explores just what a teleporter could be capable of, while twining it with a touch of danger and a manipulating demon. When Breck made a deal with a demon he never thought he would be stuck chasing down trinkets, or being chased down by someone who has an ability or their own. Manny just wants to make sure that the new guy isn't up to anything illegal, but when a life is on the line he can't say he wouldn't have done the same thing. Working together they discover that there are no limits when it comes to teleporting but they have to do some dodgy dealing if they are going to save Manda (Breck's sister).
I really enjoyed this story with its dimension jumping and puzzle solving, watching as Manny and Breck begin to enjoy a relationship and how they save the day. I liked how they worked together to figure a way out for Breck and how they managed to fix things when everything went wrong. Their relationship was forged during a really difficult time for Breck, and you can see him being pulled in two when the demon gets impatient and begins pulling his strings.... do what the demon wants or be there for his mother and sister? Manny being with him and helping him really saves Breck in more ways than one. While Manny is a large part of this story I couldn't help but feel that it was really Breck's story and although their relationship is special, it is really Breck's trials that make this story great.
I recommend this to those who love paranormal abilities, dimension jumping, interesting beings, a relationship forged in hard times and a great ending. (less)
Blake is the Chosen One, blessed with extra strengths to fight the evil that invades his city. On his first ever mission to the cemetery on a recon he meets a reflux demon and another young man who claims he is the Chosen One and during their battle of words the reflux demon slips away. Rather than be angry as the loss of his kill Blake discovers an attraction for the apprentice wizard, Shadow, and can't help thinking that maybe having a partner wouldn't be such a bad thing. But facing a reflux demon turns out to be not as scary as admitting their feelings for each other.
Oh this was such a fun story, an absolute giggle-fest with every turn of the page. Blake is a fantastic character who tries so hard to be the warrior hero from fantasy stories but is slightly bumbling and accident prone, Shadow is a wonderful character who takes the more loose 'boy from the hood' attitude and is slightly more worldly. Put the two boys together and we get a fun filled story of slightly angsty teenagers who feel the first flares of attraction. Their quest to send the reflux demon back to hell is hilarious and you can't help but squirm at times in sympathetic embarrassment that is tinged with glee.
While reading this story I couldn't help but be delighted with the characters, I even felt a kinship to the reflux demon as he came across as a jolly fellow dealing with pesky children, being indulgent as they fumble through their attempts to vanquish him. The story flows well as we see two young men awkwardly approach their attraction to each other while awkwardly fighting evil. While we get to see everything from Blake's perspective Shadow's feelings still come through pretty well, leaving you in no doubt that they are both full of bravado, a touch of angst and a mutual attraction.
I have to recommend this to those who love young adult urban fantasy/paranormal, lots of humor and laughs, sweet blossoming first love and a very fulfilling story. (less)
This book is part of a series and must be read in order. Stefan wasn't mentally perfect when he was alive but now with his spirit free of human restrictions he has grown in leaps and bounds, and with everyone around him, both living and spirit, finding love he begins to long for love himself. Jordan and Gideon lose their lives in a war zone, still stuck on Earth the friends go to Jordan's hometown puzzled and confused as to why they haven't moved on. In McKinton they discover more than they bargained for in the form of sweet and sexy Stefan but first they have to prove their worth to Conner, Stefan's protector.
Ah sweet Stefan's story, this is one book that I couldn't wait to get my hands on. We first met Stefan in Aftermath and discovered what had happened to him, if you haven't read Aftermath then there is a brief summation from Stefan so you wouldn't feel like you are missing something, now Stefan has friends and for the most part loves his new circumstances but he now longs for love like all his friends have. Gideon and Jordan head to McKinton when they find themselves spirits, they have been friends for years and have shared men but have never confessed to each other the longing they both have for the other. Meeting Stefan has both men longing for the sexy mischievous spirit but they get off to a bad start and Stefan has them both confronting their feelings for each other.
This is a great little book with some mischievous high-jinx from Stefan, a spirit brawl, sexy men admitting how they feel and a very protective spirit making sure his friend is treated right. Gideon and Jordan have always fancied each other but decided their friendship was too important to chance more, but now they decide to explore their attraction but they both have their eye on sexy Stefan. Once Stefan overcomes the first disastrous encounter with Jordan and Gideon he begins to think that he could find love, but when both Gideon and Jordan find it hard to confess how they feel for each other Stefan thinks he has lost his chance.
I really enjoyed this story and was so glad to see Stefan getting his dream and he is as wonderful as ever. Jordan and Gideon make a great addition to the spirits of McKinton and Stefan sure knows how to handle them. The way the story played out was great with the three of them sorting their problems out under the watchful eye of Conner, although I was surprised that Stefan managed to end up in so much trouble.
I will recommend this to those who love spirits finding love, some great action, some mischief and fun, hot sexy men having steamy sex and a sweet ending. (less)
This book is part of a series and is best read in order. Joseph stumbles across a dying mountain lion and two young boys while hiking, he is surprised and disbelieving when the lion changes into the sister of his childhood best friend, Dominick, and she begs him to take the children and take them to Dominick. Dominick a U.S. Marshal is surprised when Joseph calls telling him his sister is dead and his nephews need him, he rushes home to protect his nephews and to discover what happened to his sister. But he never forgot Joseph, the man he longed for, and now Joseph knows the truth about shifters Dominick can only hope that he now has a chance at happiness.
While this story is directly linked to the previous books it is more of an off shoot wrapping the up loose ends of Riley's confession of his pack mates in Soul Magic. Joseph gets more than he bargained for while taking a hike in the woods, his discovery helps to explain why his best friend cut him out of his life but Joseph isn't prepared to forgive so easily. Dominick left Joseph behind rather than admit his secret, now with Joseph discovering his secret and helping to care for his nephews Dominick hopes he will have a chance to make Joseph his, but first he has to discover what happened to his old pack and protect his nephews.
I quite enjoyed this story, it wasn't as action packed or magic filled like the previous books but it was still a very enjoyable story. Dominick left Joseph behind years ago because his attraction to Joseph was causing his shift to become unstable and Dominick couldn't tell Joseph his secret, now though Joseph has discovered the truth and Dominick discovers the attraction is still as fierce as ever. Joseph still finds it hard to believe what he saw but with Dominick confirming it Joseph is overcome with hurt that Dominick never told him. While they dance around their feelings for each other they have more important things to worry about, like what happened to Dominick's old pack and looking after two boys who have just lost their mother.
The relationship between Dominick and Joseph is pretty good with just a touch of hurt feelings keeping them from acting on their attraction, Dominick and Joseph work together to look after Blake and Avery and when they discover what happened to the pack they have to decide together what is best for the boys. I really liked the storyline and liked how everything connected together giving us answers and wrapping up a loose end, the way the relationship played out was quite relaxed with no real tension other than hurt feelings but it takes sometime for those hurt feelings to fade. The dilemma of what was best for the boys was well thought out with the adults tense while the boys playing nicely unaware of the tension floating around. We do get to see Gray and Simon as Dominick goes to them with questions and gets a lot more answers than he thought he would.
I recommend this to those who love shifters, reuniting children, rekindling friendship and love, some smoking hot sex and two men finding their happily ever after. (less)
Malachi (Lachi) is King of the vampires, created to save his race and bonded to a Seraphim, Laziel, it is his destiny to guide the vampires, but, the duty is wearing him down and without his angel to temper his dark yearnings he would lay waste to those that irk him. Laz adores his vampire, Lachi is his to protect but Laz loves Lachi with his every breath, a love that Lachi can't accept. With a rival vampire working with their enemies Lachi and Laz are about to face a challenge that the world may not survive.
Oh My God, this is a brilliant paranormal story that just blew me away. Lachi is being pressured to take a female mate and produce children, but he has no interest in females and only wants his angel. Lachi secretly loves Laz but refuses to say anything because he thinks he has too much darkness inside him. Laz would give anything to be able to love Lachi freely but knows Lachi would never accept his love or freely return it, he is caught in the web of his Creators making and can only take what Lachi offers. In the vampire world there are factions at work trying to bring Lachi to his knees but with the aid of others Lachi is trying to stop the plans, but finding proof is near impossible.
There are many things going on in this epic story that has you wondering how they are connected and the further into the story we venture the clearer the picture becomes, but there are still many unanswered questions at the remarkable Kindle throwing ending. We have two fantastic main characters in Lachi and Laz and believe me when I say that Laz has a very interesting surprise for you. We find out about Lachi's creation and his connection to Laz, we see a very interesting relationship between the two and some hot sex with a brief glossy overview of their BDSM relationship. But, this story is so much more than just Lachi and Laz, and I mean a lot more, as we are introduced to many more characters and little side story's that piques your curiosity.
While I would love to blather on and on about the storyline I won't, just because trying to fit everything in to a short review would completely do a disservice to this epic storyline. There are many characters that we get to know who seem to have their own stories to tell and we see brief flashes of these. Lachi's and Laz's story is complex enough without trying to dissect it to bring up different points.... but I have to say that the authors have woven everything together in such a way that it grabs your attention and won't let go, it fills you with excitement and frustration, has you lingering for that devouring powerful kiss and has you growling in righteous anger at the mechanics of an insane vampire. Oh by the way, the warning in the blurb about the ending is to be taken seriously!
I recommend this to those who love epic storylines, vampires and paranormals, an intense plot, great characters, devious intent, thwarting enemies, unspoken love and an ending that has you whimpering in protest as you squelch the scream of frustration that is trying to burst forth. (less)
This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Dex awakens to find himself the prisoner of Balthazar, the powerful vampire, but he isn't alone. Somewhere in the depths of the cave he is chained in someone is screaming and Dex is determined to escape. Balthazar is using Dex as bait, he wants to know Josh's secrets and lure Josh into a trap, Dex has the answers but a stubborn will and Balthazar will use any means to wear down Dex's defenses. Josh wants to rescue Dex desperately but with the wolves and vampires chasing them Josh and Glory find themselves in the hands of the sheriff of Belkin's Pass unable to convince him of the danger that is coming. Trapped in a town where the residents are falling victim to the vampires and wolves and their hopes of rescuing Dex dwindling, Josh and Glory with the few remaining townspeople prepare to face the vampires.
Well, we left Cowboys & Vampires as Balthazar snatched Dex from the Indian's camp, now we rejoin Dex, Josh and Glory as they try to find a way to reunite while in the midst of vampires, wolves and a town that is being destroyed. Dex is left facing Balthazar as the vampire tries to break him, his hope of rescue dwindling as Balthazar tries to twist his mind against Josh and seduce him to Balthazar's needs. Josh is desperate to rescue Dex but he has many obstacles to face when the sheriff catches up with him and Glory and they are returned to Belkin's Pass, convincing people of the danger is hard to do until they are faced with the horror that has overtaken the town. Glory discovers from her spirit guide that she holds the means to help Josh with the dead, and she still longs for those moments when her spirit guide protects her.
This is a wonderful continuation of Venom Valley that leaves you guessing what will happen as you turn the pages, will Dex succumb to Balthazar? Will Balthazar take that last bite? Will Josh ever convince anyone of the truth? Will they survive through the night? What will happen with Josh's new found attraction to the army Sergeant? Will they be able to rescue Dex? And just how will they go up against so many vampires and wolves? This story is brilliantly woven, leaving you guessing and trying to figure out yourself how they will pull it off, has you murmuring 'resist Dex, resist Balthazar' and has you wondering what will happen next. The characters really make this story great, the difficulties they face bringing out the best and, in some cases, the worst in them and making you vested in their survival.
I have to recommend this to those who love western historicals, dark vampires, desperate men and women, pulling together in times of survival, desperate loving and hope, and an ending that prepares you for the adventure still to come.
This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Simon is an assassin, he is the best tracker in the group but when hunting for some giant baby spiders he is assigned The best tracker the wolves have... an omega. Finn really doesn't want to work with an assassin, but if he wants more missions then he has to prove he can handle himself, but damn Simon is a jerk! As the two work together they surprise each other and soon their attraction flares to life but will their budding love survive when they face opposition from Finn's brothers.
This is a great addition to Wayne County Wolves with us being introduced to more shifters who have suffered in the past. When Simon and Finn first meet neither man is really impressed with the other, they might look good enough to eat but first impressions are poor. Working together they see beneath the surface and their attraction flares, but they both want to see what they can have together before broadcasting it to the world. Finn has his brothers to think about, especially his protective older brother Tate, but his feelings for Simon won't be denied. Simon has only ever had his fellow assassins and has never really cared for anyone before, but Finn has shattered all Simon's defenses to worm his way into his heart.
So we meet new characters in this installment of Wayne County Wolves and I have to say that I really hope that two of them will be getting stories of their own. We meet Finn who isn't like normal omegas, he knows how to fight and has a super sensitive nose, he wants to do more for the pack but his older brother is protective. Simon is an assassin and Finn is the one who finds the chink in his armor, showing Simon himself that he can have more than meaningless sex and that he is more than just an assassin. They get to know each other before they act on their attraction and then wait longer before they finally admit how they feel about each other, but they have to bring Tate around because he is opposed to the relationship. Finn also has to make his twin brother, Kline, let him go and make Tate accept that Kline should also have a life of his own.
I really enjoyed this story and loved the way that neither Finn or Kline is a typical omega, both of them learning to fight and protect after their parents were killed. Both brothers are unique and I think they make a great addition to the series, Finn and Simon's story is great and we see them clearing all the spiders that escaped in The Leopard who Changed his Spots.
I recommend this to those who love shifters overcoming their pasts, danger, great characters, hot sex, tension and a great ending. (less)
This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Jason leaves home and sets off for his uncles when his step-father goes too far and hits him, he has put up with verbal abuse but the violence is too much. When Jason arrives at his uncle Raul's he is pleased when Raul welcomes him with open arms and discovers that Raul has a male partner and that most of his friends are gay, it makes him feel safe. Michel is living up in the mountains putting distance between himself and the town. Visit his packmate Raul he discovers his mate, and as he gets to know Jason disaster strikes and Michel has a lot of explaining to do.
This is a good addition to the Wolves of Stone Ridge series but was a bit of a let down as well. Michel has been around for a long time and is happy to have found his mate, but his mate Jason is a lot younger than him and he isn't sure how Jason will react to being his mate. Jason is hoping to be welcomed by his uncle Raul (Choosing his Christmas Miracle) but fears rejection, but meeting his uncle and his friends eases him and he jumps at the chance of a date with the sexy mountain man. Just as things seem to get interesting between them, strange visitors drag Jason into a world Michel hasn't had a chance to inform him about. Just as Jason seems to have wrapped his head around it all a misunderstanding happens that nearly drives them apart.
While I did enjoy this story I found it to be a little strained, as though everything that could happen has happened and it was a strain to come up with something new. Jason's predicament with his step-father seemed a convenient excuse for Jason to visit his uncle, I mean suddenly after years of knowing that Jason is gay his step-father starts to verbally abuse him and then hits him, it was pushing the boundaries of reality a bit. When I first started reading the story I thought Jason must be around eighteen but he was twenty-two, but really came off as younger. Another thing that was a bit unbelievable was when Michel was thinking about how he had removed himself from the human society so he can reappear in the future with a new name, living a long time can cause problems and the only hope is that he will be forgotten, but ten years really isn't that long and unless all the town members have really bad memories then someone would recognize him.
But, saying all that, I have a soft spot for Charlie Richards wolves. Jason and Michel are one hot couple, and while they have misunderstandings and a bit of danger it is a nice little story for them. The conclusion to the mad scientist plot was a fizzle which really surprised me, after all the effort that has gone into that storyline both with Wolves of Stone Ridge and Kontra's Menagerie I was expecting something a lot more explosive. I still enjoyed this story though but not as much as I have the previous books.
I recommend this to those who love shifters, hot sex, new characters, a touch of shock and danger, misunderstandings, hot making up and a very happy ending.(less)
Scotty and his family are heading to a remote resort for the annual holiday with two other families, a tradition that has happened every year since the adults were in college. This year Scotty came out to his friends via e-mail and he doesn't know how they will react. During a late night visit to an old cemetery something happens, and Scotty and his friends find themselves unraveling a secret that has been hidden for nearly a century.
This is a wonderful young adult story that has that great touch of horror and paranormal. Scotty has recently come out and he has a boyfriend, Marc, but right now he has to face his friends that he only sees once a year during the joint vacation and he is nervous about their reaction. When the friends, Carson, Lynda, Logan, Teresa and Scotty start to explore they all get more than they bargained for when their ghost hunting leads to an old mystery. Scotty seems to be directly affected and there is a connection to his boyfriend Marc, each of them discover that they can't just explain away what is happening and that they have to come up with a plan to get to the bottom of the mystery.
I loved this story, it was just the right mix of angsting teenagers and paranormal with a touch of mystery thrown in. Scotty is a typical teenager and that reflects throughout the book, especially when he becomes distracted with thoughts of his boyfriend or angsting over what his friends will think of him being gay. When the guys all start on the hunt for paranormal activity it becomes nicely creepy, but it is Scotty that connects to the ghosts of long past. Is it because he is gay or is there another reason? Although we never meet Marc we get a lot of information about him and his situation, and Scotty discovers that he has to do something to stop the past from repeating itself.
I recommend this to those who love young adult that are spooky and slightly scary, with a absent romantic interest, a mystery to solve and a great ending. (less)
Jubal has always been different, he has been able to see ghosts ever since he was a child but he doesn't really have a clue about his heritage, his Abenaki heritage, and he soon discovers that his gift is much more important than he thought. A letter from a lawyer and a persistent spirit has Jubal and his best friend, Sal, heading for Whitewater and answers and they discover a family history and an old man with an obsession. Sal is just along for the ride, his relationship with Jubal has always been more than friendship but it deepens further as Sal stands by Jubal's side, as Jubal tries to drive away the darkness which clings to Whitewater because of an old man who wants his wife returned to him.
This is a great paranormal story that blends the Native American's and First Nation's into protectors of the flow between the spirit world and the living world. Jubal is drawn back to his father's birth place when a letter, an accident and a break in seem to be too much of a coincidence. Sal and Jubal set off to discover what is going on and they go from f**k buddies to admitting their feelings for each other as they try to discover just what Jubal is supposed to do with the ancient knife his father had hidden. Jubal doesn't know who he can trust, but knowing Sal is there for him as he unravels the cryptic messages from his long deceased ancestor means more to him than anything.
Jubal and Sal make a brilliant couple, they have been friends since they were young boys and f**k buddies for a number of years but neither man has ever admitted to wanting more, until a journey to Whitewater brings them closer together than ever. The storyline is great although you are as much in the dark as Jubal, you can piece together what is going on quite well. We see the story unfold and characters come in to play at a good pace and we do get one or two surprises along the way. The spiritual aspect of the story is great and the spirits are colorful characters, the easy acceptance of Jubal's gift is wonderful but even Jubal and Sal become uneasy in Whitewater.
I recommend this to those who love spirits, grief stricken old men, fighting the undesirable blackness, great characters, danger, discovering love, hot sex and a great confrontation and ending. (less)
Austin's life has been hell ever since his first change and he was discovered to be a Three Form, hated and bullied he has lived with daily abuse and the only thing he has had to cling to is the promise of his True Mate. Cristiano has been lavished with love and honor, he is a True Mate and has lived the life of one of the blessed, when the urge to find his True Mate becomes too strong he heads to America to find the man he will love forever. When Austin and Cris meet the connection is instant, but Cris discovers it isn't going to be as easy as he hoped to settle with his mate. Austin has to show his mate the truth about his life and they both have to hope that they can get away from a pack bent on violence.
This story is absolutely amazing, the brutality and prejudice, the abuse and despair, along with the thread of hope and love just jump off the pages as we are told the tale of Austin and Cris. Cris really has no clue what he is heading into when he begins the journey to find his True Mate, he never imagined that his mate would have lived a life of abuse or that he would be a Three Form, the most fear and hated wolf. Austin has lived with the hope of his True Mate for many years, it is the only thing that keeps him going each day and the only reason that he doesn't turn on his abusers.
Austin and Cris are a brilliant couple but they face manage challenges as they maneuver through pack politics, prejudice, danger and psychotic pack mates. We are pulled into a story that is much more than just a love story, and we get a wealth of information about the structures of the packs and their backgrounds and roles. Austin's pack is a mess compared to others and as it begins to implode Austin and Cris get caught up in it, even as they try to leave. We are with them every step of the way as they try to find a pack who will take them, it isn't easy because of Austin being Three Form and somebody doing their best to sabotage them, we are with them as they make new friends and fight against the pack who won't let them go. We are also with them and their friends as they face loss and suffering and Austin finally finds his place in the world.
I loved this story, it was just so involved and we get a full story even though it would have been easy to have split it into two books. We meet a wealth of characters who enrich this story and I would love to see get their own stories. We feel frustration and anger at Austin's pack and we feel gratitude to the pack who are willing to give them a chance. And at the end we find it very hard to find pity for those who have hurt Austin when the full story emerges, you really can't help but feel that they got what they deserved.
I recommend this to those who love shifters, danger, finding an escape route, working through difficulties to get what you want, love and happiness, fantastic characters and a brilliant ending. (less)
Thomas has refused to love for two hundred years. The loss of his lover, Jacob, to the Drones scarred him deeply and he hasn't been able to give his heart again. Since then Thomas has swore to destroy the Drones who want to wipe out his family, the Royal vampire family, but one night his world is turned on end when he meets Daniel. Daniel won't take no for an answer and Daniel stumbles into Thomas' world of danger, but Daniel knows what he wants and he wants eternity with the vampire he loves.
This story is a pretty good vampire story of love and determination. The story starts now, as Thomas is turning his lover Daniel, we get his worry and his feelings of love for Daniel and the loving support of Thomas' family. It then goes back into the past to when Thomas and Daniel first met and the beginning of their relationship, we see how their attraction is instant but the different reactions to that attraction by the two men. Thomas pushes Daniel away, determined to keep him from his dangerous world, and Daniel is gung ho on pursuing Thomas.
We get a very good feel for the history of the war between the vampires and the Drones and the reason behind it all, we see the danger that stalks the vampires and can fully understand Thomas' reluctance to bring another lover into his world. Daniel falls into the world anyway and you admire his determination to pursue what he wants, even when he is scared. Their relationship is rocky at first but evens out when Thomas opens his heart, but, that doesn't mean it is all perfect because Daniel wants forever and Thomas still wants to keep Daniel safe from his world.
While Daniel and Thomas' relationship progresses there is still the war with the Drones going on and we see the development of that as well, the losses and how it effects the characters, the devastation and the determination to wipe out the Drones. We also get to see the end of the war in an unusual conclusion.
So I found this story to be full of action, love and worry. I am gonna have to recommend this to those who love vampires at war, finding and accepting love in trying conditions, hot sex and sweet love and a great ending. (less)
This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Donny is an Omega, because of how his father treated him Donny thinks he is useless and the way his pack mates treat him sometimes doesn't help. So what if he is a bit of a klutz and he sometimes does stupid things they could at least give him a chance. Proctor is coming to visit his best friend but what he finds at Black Creek has him suspicious, his friends are acting strange and there's a twink spying on them. Proctor can't deny the attraction he feels for the little twink though and soon pursues a relationship with Donny, but Proctor finds out the hard way that the town has secrets
This is a great continuation of the Building the Pack series, this time we have young Donny and Proctor, Connor and Josh's friend, leading the story. Proctor's cop instincts are instantly pinging when he is visiting his best-friend Connor, both Connor and Josh are acting oddly and Proctor is determined to get to the bottom of it. Donny is keeping an eye on Connor's and Josh's place while they have a visitor to ensure no secrets are spilled but he gets caught by Proctor and feels an attraction to the human. Both men embark on a friendship which quickly changes to more. Donny hates keeping secrets but he can't betray his pack, but when the evil wolf turns up again Donny doesn't know if Proctor will ever forgive him.
This story continues in the same vein as The New Wolf keeping the unique fresh shifter story where everything isn't instant mates and easy acceptance. Both Proctor and Josh are great characters with Donny being sweet and bratty and Proctor being protective and suspicious, they fit together perfectly as they hang out and get to know each other (barring secrets) and when they finally get it on, wow are they hot! But as always danger comes and both Donny and Proctor handle it badly before forgiveness is sought and given. It wasn't all perfect as Proctor has to deal with the secrets the hard way and Donny acts like the brat he is and sulks, I did expect a slightly different reaction from Connor and Josh though seeing as what they had also recently been through, they could have been a bit more understanding of Proctor's reaction.
I recommend this to those who love shifters, danger, secrets, hot sex, finding love, great characters and life changing discoveries. (less)
This story is part of a series and is best read in order. When agent Poe is removed from the case of searching for a missing aide and told to track down an elusive Master Shifter his suspicions of Chief Anu begin to rise higher. Unable to do anything else he sets off on what he thinks is a pointless task, but when he begins searching Sanctuary he discovers that the Knights are also there. When Poe finally comes across the Master Shifter Nordik his attraction to the shifter has him fighting to ignore it, but it's an attraction that can't be ignored. Poe has choices to make, his Chief can't be trusted and Nordik is targeted by the Knights; keeping the shifter safe becomes Poe's number one priority but can he really not complete his mission when he has never failed before?
This story is a great continuation of The Shifters series and coincides with the events in Healing Minds. We have heard Agent Poe mentioned many times in previous books and he is the Agent all aides want to be, and now, we get to witness his story as Arcas and the Knights move forward with their agenda. Poe is a brilliant character who finds himself torn between his life with the Agency and the promise of love with a shifter. It is far from an easy path that Poe is drawn to, as the Agency's policy on Agent's and relationships is clear cut but how can he choose between the love he is offered and his loyalty to the Agency? Nordik has had many mates through his long life but he has finally found his soul-mate, convincing the man of that though is nigh on impossible, but he also has to worry about the Knights in his sanctuary picking off the shifters.
I loved this story as we finally get to meet Poe properly and what drives him in his quest to help shifters, but we also discover that things are much more complicated in the background of the origin of the Knights. Poe really is an outstanding character, his loyalty to the Agency is unquestionably strong but even he isn't blind to what may be a mole in the Agency. Nordik is a Master Shifter older and nigh on impossible to kill, he has 'been there and done that' when it comes to trusting governments and their broken treaties but for the chance with Poe he will consider an alliance. Nordik and Poe certainly have their ups and downs but boy are they steamy together, with the Agency on one side and the Knights on the other it doesn't look likely that either of them will come out unscathed.
The storyline is brilliant and we begin to see changes in the Agency as the truth about Chief Anu is revealed, the characters are great as both men want to protect the other and there is plenty enough action and danger to quench a bloodthirsty gals needs. We also discover Arcas' plans are much more involved than just wiping out the shifters one by one, something is brewing in the background and it only adds to the thrill of the chase.
I recommend this to those who love powerful shifters, danger, unraveling secrets, finding love, hot explosive sex, being torn between duty and love, finding solutions and an ending that drives your imagination and curiosity through the roof. (less)
Blake is the enforcer for his pride and is annoyed when he is reduced to being a babysitter when the younger pridemates want to go clubbing, but at least he has company that is a joy to look at. Luc is Blake's equal in the neighboring pack and he has no trouble with keeping Blake company in nightclubs. The pride Elders in both prides have come up with a plan keep the younger pridemates from causing trouble, but when the plan fails they resort to a custom that is very little used and Blake and Luc find themselves able to act on their attraction. But someone is unhappy and as things heat up danger comes and Blake and Luc prove to the prides that an alliance is worthwhile.
This is a great paranormal story that has a great pride structure and some great characters. Blake is a member of the Black Shadows jaguar pride and has a fierce attraction for his counterpart, Luc, in the Golden Grass lions pride, but a relationship would be frowned upon as they still have tentative peace between the prides. They are thrown together as they keep their younger pridemates in line but when that fails they are bonded together and it gives them both the excuse to act on their attraction. But some of their prides don't want peace and set out to cause trouble and as enforcers it is Luc's and Blake's place to find out who they are.
I really did enjoy this story and I loved how the prides were set up so there wasn't just one person in charge, the storyline was interesting and we meet some wonderful characters. Luc and Blake are two smoking hot characters who are attracted to each other but have to ignore it because of the tensions within their prides. When they can finally act on it they burn up the sheets and connect together perfectly. They also face problems from within the packs as some pridemates don't want peace between the prides and cause as much trouble as they can even if it endangers the young. Luc and Blake are great characters and this story fits them perfectly. The connecting of the prides to make it easier for them all is pretty interesting but we only get it from Luc and Blake's perspective so although we see the mating bond take place we don't really see how it happens other than some of the Elders chanting. My one bugbear with this story was the editing, I found it to be poor in places and it really detracted the story.
I recommend this to those who love paranormals coming to understandings, hot man on man sex, a touch of danger, an interesting storyline and really hot sexy ending.
This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Wolf shifter Jake has longed for his mate for years, being in close contact is getting harder and harder but he refuses to claim a man who is straight and has never shown any interest other than friendship. Daniel has kept his sexuality hidden from his friends and workmates as a way to hide his attraction to Jake, knowing Jake could meet his fated mate at any time. After one night together Daniel disappears and Jake begins to go feral, and when Daniel reappears will it be too late to save Jake?
This story starts somewhere around-about half way through book one Alpha Second and is from Jake's and Daniel's perspectives. Jake has known since he first met Daniel that they were mates but Daniel was seventeen so he decided to wait, but then thought Daniel was straight so has left him alone and has suffered from unrequited love. Daniel has always been attracted to Jake but understands a little about the mate business and because he doesn't want his heart ripped out at a later date, he pretends to be straight as a way to handle his attraction to Jake. When their misunderstanding is finally corrected they have more challenges ahead.
This is a pretty good paranormal story that begins to clear up the threat to the paranormals that we were introduced to in Alpha Second. Jake and Daniel make a fantastic couple once they both reveal their true feelings, they are smoking hot and super sexy. Both men have hidden their feelings for the other thinking they were protecting themselves but really they have only been hurting each other. Daniel dives into trying to discovering what information they found when they rescued the captives and Jake continues to keep everyone safe. I did enjoy this story but I could never figure out why Daniel pretended to be straight? So he wanted to throw others off his attraction to Jake, fine, but he could have done that easily enough with his true sexuality. The storyline continues with the Michaelson thread and the relocation of the rescued paranormals, and it was nice to see how they were all taken care of and the discovery of mates for some of Perry's pack.
I recommend this to those who love paranormals coming to the rescue, misunderstanding and miscommunication, hot sex, new discoveries and a great ending for Daniel and Jake.(less)
Levi is a werewolf and is madly in love with his boyfriend Glyn and after being together for so long they have been attempting to change Glyn into a wolf.... but Glyn is a witch and the change isn't taking. Levi doesn't know what to do, his pack is on his back about increasing numbers and a rival pack is making noises about taking over his territory but he can't betray his lover to make more wolves. Glyn wants nothing more than to become a wolf like his lover, it should help to settle his magic and the pack would accept him fully, but each month the bite doesn't take and the pack are trying to force his lover to change someone else. Can Glyn and Levi discover why Glyn isn't changing and would their love survive if Levi caved in to his packs demands.
This story is brilliant, it is a paranormal story that has disagreements, temptations, danger and realizations. Each month Levi and Glyn face disappointment when the wolf bite fails, they have been attempting for months to change witch Glyn but each time it fails. Now Levi's pack are pressuring him to increase their numbers and there is only one way to change a human into a wolf and it involves lots of sex, Levi can't do that to his lover but the pack are refusing to back down. Glyn's magic has always been unstable and with the difficulty he is having he turns to his grandmother for help, and discovers there is more each failure than he first realized.
Glyn and Levi are an established couple who love each other madly, but the packs insistence is beginning to drive them apart. There is no way that Glyn could accept his lover having sex with someone else but the pack don't care, putting Levi in an awkward position of having to choose between his pack and his lover. Both characters are brilliant, with Levi being torn over what to do and Glyn refusing to be walked on by the pack, it is a rocky time for both men but their passion for each other never lessens. When the discovery of why Glyn's change never works is discovered Levi feels guilty but Glyn takes it all in stride, it makes a very interesting storyline and has a great twist for the shifters.
I really enjoyed this story as it wasn't perfect mates and the changing of new wolves was pretty unique, both Glyn and Levi are hot characters and you can clearly see the struggle they both face as temptation is thrown in Levi's face. I was amazed at the feelings this story invoked, disappointment and anger being the main ones. It really makes you feel for Glyn as he is faced with the possibility of his lover not only changing another, but having months of sex with that person as well. The thing is, you also see it from Levi's point of view as well, especially when he is trying to convince his pack that it is wrong for them to expect him to set Glyn aside for months. This really is a great story.
I recommend this to those who love shifters with a different twist, witches in a snit, fantastic sex, brilliant characters and a great ending. (less)
This book is part of a series and must be read in order. Lance and Andrew are happily mated, well they would be if people didn’t want Lance dead, but Andrew is still tied to Stephon and Lance is far from happy about that fact. As Lance begins to learn of the political mechanics he has to wade through, Andrew and his family seek to support and protect Lance as those who don’t want change, seek to put an end to the pureblood.
A Royal Bind is a great continuation from The Pauper Prince. Lance and Andrew have many political manoeuvres to endure as they decide what must be done to protect Lance from the assassins; Lance also wants Andrew free from Stephon and just wants to be with his mate. They have many decisions to make because as a pureblood, the only pureblood to be known to live, he is a danger to the vampires rule over the shifters and that is not something that most vampires want and some shifters. They have to be careful of who they trust because enemies may not be enemies and allies might not be allies.
I really enjoyed this second instalment of the Changing Moon series, the characters Lance and Andrew still adore and love each other, but now as more people learn of Lance’s bloodlines they begin to learn that there are even more people that they might not be able to trust. Lance is a great character who may not want anything but his mate, but will try to do what is best for everyone, he also shows his backbone more in this one and I was thrilled at his and Andrew’s developing skills. Andrew is an absolute sweetheart and I really love his entire family (well except Uncle Dave).
This isn’t a story where the lines between allies and enemies are clear, you just can’t tell who is really out for Lance and some characters will surprise you, and I have a strong feeling that by the end of the series we will be left reeling as to who the enemy really is. You will love some of the new characters that we finally meet face to face (so to speak) and you begin to have doubts about others but as I said there are no clear lines so you are left guessing. Lance and Andrew’s love is plain to see on every page, as is Lance’s inexperience of the shifter and vampire world and you can only hope that he is being guided by the right people.
I will recommend this to those who love shifters, vampires, paranormal, strong love, hot sex, developing characters, a great story and being left with a desperate hope that the next book will be published soon. (less)
Lance has grown up in the foster system being passed from foster home to foster home and State to State, when a foster father is killed, Lance goes on the run and begins to discover the secrets of his past. When Andrew discovers a young man in the barn he gives chase, when he finally catches up with him he is delighted at what he finds.
This is a wonderful story that had me enthralled with its craftsmanship. Sui Lynn has created a world that is complex but easy to follow, she explains well the world of her shifters and although we don’t get all the answers in this book… it is only the start of a great new world. When Lance is caught by Andrew it starts a slow building relationship between the two men, it is a relationship where trust has to be earned and where love develops slowly.
Lance has been badly abused in the past and although he grows to love Andrew he doesn’t think that the relationship will ever progress to sex. Andrew adores Lance and will do anything for him, when he realises the extent of Lance’s abuse he knows he has to hold back and hope that Lance will overcome his past because they have already declared each other as mates and they have to consummate their mating… or it will get violent as their animals take over.
This is a wonderfully written story where secrets come out and Lance finds out about his parents, he starts to learn about the shifter world and the circumstances that the shifters species find themselves in. The characters in this book are wonderful from the two MC’s to all the supporting characters; the emotional depth to the book is startling and well rounded out. The background of the shifters is well developed and I loved the fact that the shifters and animals choose each other instead of just being born a certain type of shifter.
Although this story doesn’t answer all our questions, it is a fantastic start to a series that promises answer’s in future books (the next one is called A Royal Bind). It has introduced us to a world of shifters and vampires that I found fascinating, it is also a book that is based on building trust and overcoming ghosts from the past and looking towards the problems of the future. A really incredible story that I adored.
I have to recommend this book to anyone who loves shifters, mystery, a bit of action, some danger, a slow love story, some hot love making and a happy ending.(less)
Justin has settled into the city where he hopes his stalker won’t find him. As he works on the old church, that he will call home, he talks to the gargoyles that guard his sanctuary. When he is attacked, he dreams that his favorite gargoyle comes to him to offer comfort and support. Cullen has spent much time listening to the human talk to him, now he finds that his human needs protection and he and his fellow gargoyles will ensure his protection.
Justin is an artist who is opening his own gallery. As he works on the old church, he awakens the gargoyles and they will protect him from those who would do harm. But, the gargoyles are helpless during the day, so Justin calls in an old friend. This is an interesting gargoyle story that I found wonderful for the simple fact that although they came alive at night they still turned to stone during the day and not even Justin’s love changes that, it really was refreshing.
Justin might have thought that he had fled his stalker, but the man just won’t give up. Cullen is really sweet in his need to protect Justin, but even he knows that he has limitations. Now, even though this story is focused on Justin and Cullen there are other things that are going on in the background that are just as interesting that involve Justin’s sister, her son and her high school sweetheart, you also have the other gargoyles Bob, Draco and Snout who make for interesting reading.
I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to Sui Lynn’s future gargoyle stories. With this one, I will recommend it to those who love gargoyles, hot sex, an interesting story, a slightly more realistic gargoyle story (do not go there, I know it isn’t real so *raspberry*) and a happy ending for everyone involved. (Except Bob because his angel really is just stone.)(less)
This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Mikhail is babysitting the last of the rescued children when they are attacked by Sirens, rescue comes from an unexpected source in the shape of a sexy dragon shifter Jin. Bob and Sam come back from dropping Mal off at her new school to find the bathroom destroyed and a new quest to undertake.... returning the little dragon shifter princess home and discovering who was behind her kidnapping. Jin is surprised to discover his mate is a vampire/siren hybrid, but Mikhail isn't sure if he could be a dragons mate.
Dragon's *sigh* I just love dragon's, and this story is an excellent paranormal with a horrid new enemy. Mikhail is left in charge for only a short amount of time when Siren's attack with the intention of snatching the last remaining child, Eliza, when Jin comes to the rescue they realize that a dragon must have been involved with the original kidnapping. Jin, Mikhail, Sam and Bob along with Eliza head back to the dragon mountains to return Eliza to the safety of her father and to discover who would want to get rid of her. Mikhail and Jin also have to find out if their mating stands a chance, because Mikhail doesn't have much hope of anyone really wanting a vampire/siren hybrid.
This story is a wonderful addition to the End Street Detective Agency continuing the kidnapped children/ siren storyline while weaving slightly darker elements into it to give us an exciting dangerous story. While we have meet Mikhail in previous books, this book gives us insight into his life and you can't help but admire him as his past is unfolded. Jin is a very sexy new character who is also tough, but sweet and vulnerable at times. We see both men instantly connect but because of Mikhail's mixed heritage Mikhail doesn't recognize, at first, that Jin is his mate. Jin is so understanding of Mikhail's qualms and they really are a fantastic couple when they finally get it together.
The rest of the storyline reveals more than just the siren's involvement and we discover that someone, who Jin thought was a good friend, is a traitor. We see Sam make an ill advised deal in his desperation to save someone, and he is delightful in his worry for Mal. Bob and Sam's relationship continues to develop and they are brilliant together in this story, as well as the support they show their friend. We also get an excellent ending with hints for the next case.
I recommend this to those who love brilliant paranormal investigations, danger and mad dragons, new storyline directions, great characters, incredible hot sex and a brilliant ending that leads us to the next book. (less)
Zander has led a sheltered life in the paranormal world, even though he is a warlock he has been brought up in the human world and knows very little about other paranormals. Zander is about to change that by meeting up with his on-line friend Giovanni and going to a supernatural night club, but his night of escape comes to a screeching halt when the club is attacked and he finds himself dragged into an adventure to discover who was behind the attack. Zander also discovers that his mother has been hiding a secret, he meets his mate Tau and isn't sure he wants to settle down.
This is a great paranormal story that is filled with action and secrets. Zander wants to know more about the world he belongs to but has been kept sheltered by his parents. On the one night that he throws off the shackles of responsibility it ends with him meeting his mate and being in the middle of a violent bloody attack by enemies unknown, and he takes it on himself to rescue the kidnapped paranormals when he discovers his grandmother is among those who are missing. Tau is a shifter prince, discovering his mate fills him with joy but it isn't a easy mating and he has his own challenges to face in the coming weeks. Giovanni is a warlock who threw his own chains off long ago he has no problem supporting Zander in his rescue mission, Giovanni also meets a vampire, Hung, who he isn't sure he wants to leave.
Zander is a pretty confused young man by the time this story ends, he discovers secrets that rip his family apart, discovers a mate he isn't sure he wants yet and finds himself in the middle of rescue and sets himself a mission to discover who attacked the paranormals. Zander's relationship with Tau is very rocky, and if he had know the truth about shifters it would have been a lot smoother but still tense. Giovanni proves to be a great friend for Zander and adds some zing to the story. The progression of the story is very quick but doesn't get confusing, the characters are brilliant and come together brilliantly to make an interesting cast and the storyline is action packed and exciting.
I will recommend this story to those that love paranomal story's that have a journey ahead of them, developing love that has hurdles, secrets that can destroy but make you stronger, rescues that rock, difficult choices to make and an ending that makes you want the next eleven installments now!
