Sean has been trying to pin Yates for his crimes for years. But, they always slide off him and Yates always walks away clean. But, now Sean is having to rethink everything he has ever known, as Yates saves his life and shows him a life he never even suspected. Yana (Yates) is not who he first appears to be and it is a revelation as to who he really is.
I liked this story as it has a secret organization that is trying to help with justice on Earth. Sean is a LAPD detective who ends up getting rescued by his nemesis Yates. Sean doesn’t have a clue what is going on when Yates rescues him and takes him to a place that no one on Earth has a clue about. But, that doesn’t stop his questions. Yana (Yates) has an opportunity to show Sean that he isn’t as bad as Sean thinks and to show Sean his life. But, with an ex hanging in the background and his work to do, he doesn’t have much time to spend with Sean and relies on his friends to show Sean what their community is like.
Yana and Sean have a slow developing relationship. with Sean having to resolve what he thought he knew about Yana and what he now knows to be true. Yana seems to have been admiring Sean from afar, but knew that because of his role, Sean wouldn’t have anything to do with him. It was nice to see a slow build-up with a bit of confusion thrown in, in the shape of Jimmy. The space-station is a unique touch, as this is set in modern times and we get a bit of back-ground about the Peace Keepers and what their role is. But…I was left with questions.
I must admit that there was a couple of interesting aspects to the story, but we only got the beginning or the tail end of it. To me this story is the warm up leading to a wider range of stories in the future; sort of giving us a taste of what is to come. where we will learn more about the Peace Keepers in the future.
I will recommend this to those who love science fiction, conflict, adjusting perspectives, finding love and the beginning of a beautiful relationship.(less)
Thaddeus is a warrior who has been cursed with Blood-Rage and his dreams are leading him home; a place where his family were slaughtered. The young prince needs him, but Thaddeus has a fear that his Blood-Rage will do more harm than good. Stephen is a young prince who is seriously ill and is also cursed. The only time he feels safe is with Thaddeus, the man who saved him years before. Now, he needs Thaddeus more than ever.
What an absolutely fantastic fantasy that is well written and leaves you longing for more. Thaddeus has been cursed and is well known as The Marked One, who leaves dead bodies after his Blood-Rage. Stephen is a frail prince who has lived longer than anyone thought he would. These two, the warrior and the prince, are pulled together by dreams and a bond neither knew about and the gods who are manipulating them and those around them.
This story is not a romance. It is a true fantasy that has elements of love that is just starting to develop. Thaddeus and Stephen are our main characters and both have their own form of anguish. Stephen, because of his illness and Thaddeus, because of the losses in the past and his curse. and they are both being manipulated by the Gods. We slowly learn, as we progress through the book, of the manipulation and the players the gods are using. and we get an idea of why the gods are doing the manipulation, but things don’t always go to plan, as some gods are playing two sides.
Although there is sex in this book, it is between secondary characters that use it more for control. Although Thaddeus does have sex, it is because of the Red Moon Day (his species mating time). There are some nasty characters in this book who you will cheerfully want something bad to happen to and some great characters who you want the best for. The world building is quite good, but I can see us getting even more in future books, so we can get a clearer picture of the game that is in play. we get some fantastic descriptions of the surrounding areas and we get a good idea of what Thaddeus and Stephen are being shaped for.
Although we are given a warning that it has a bittersweet ending it doesn’t. It has a ‘to be continued’ ending that made me want the next book…now. I will be reading this book again when the next one is released, just so I can say ‘ahhh’ when I open the next book. Sighing in satisfaction, as I see how Thaddeus will rescue Stephen from the High Dolen (some of the god’s high priest). If you want to know more, read the book…Bwahahaha.
I recommend this to those who love fantasy, gods manipulation, human manipulation, nasty brothers, fierce warriors, a strong bond between prince and warrior, fantastic back stories and a brilliant ‘to be continued’ ending.(less)
Adam has no choice, but to work closely with a Fed. A Fed that he used to work with. A Fed that he called a friend. A Fed that was his lover, but now is only his biggest regret. Lee needs to know why Adam betrayed them. Why he threw away what they had and why he would never say why. Together working on finding the leak, the truth comes out and they both know it isn’t finished.
This is another great addition to the Sanctuary series. Adam is told to work with the Feds, but he is far from happy to learn which Fed it is; Lee Myers, his ex. Lee uses the assignment to get the answers that he has always wanted, but they are far from the answers that he expected. Now both men must work together to protect the innocent and to lure out the FBI leak. All the while striking sparks off each other with their attraction.
Adam and Lee make a great couple. Two souls ripped apart by deceit, but now reunited as they struggle to find evidence against the Bullens. These characters are opposites, not just in appearance but in personality, too. and they strike sparks off each other from their first scene together, which had a passionate clash. I loved the way that these two men fell back into the easy work camaraderie, even while they hadn’t sorted out their differences. And Adam’s absolute trust in Lee was breath-taking, but Lee’s lack of trust made him look a bit petty. Although, we would all have had doubts, if we had been shown the evidence and no defense was forthcoming.
I loved the way this story went and the tricky twists. Although, it got me wondering if both Lee and Adam hadn’t been set up in the first place by the FBI leak. We see characters from the previous books and a new one is added, (who is in the next book with Manny ). and evidence comes to light that just might stop the Bullens once and for all. The relationship between Adam and Lee was bound to be rocky with their history, but other that getting answers and confessing what really happened, there wasn’t too much angst and it was pretty smooth sailing.
R.J. Scott has provided us with a wonderful story of lovers torn apart by betrayal, a bit of action, a bit of danger, some passionate sex, twists and a really well written storyline that flows smoothly. So, really I have to recommend that you give it a read.(less)
Whoo hoo. Its Manny’s book. the one that I have been waiting ages for. Josh needs to know the truth so he leaves Sanctuary to hunt for answers. But, he didn’t count on Manny’s sharp eyes. Manny races to the rescue, before Josh is caught where he shouldn’t be. Manny has a bit of a mysterious past and he has put it far behind him. But, now for his Sanctuary family, he digs it up and revisits the past to try to bring the Bullens down.
Ohhh Manny, what secrets have you been hiding? Josh needs to know the truth. Was his boyfriend just using him? When Manny discovers Josh where he shouldn’t be, he is the closest person to get Josh out before it goes wrong. Manny insists on Josh’s assistance when he discovers the extent of the other man’s computer skills, so when Manny goes in as bait, Josh is his handler. But Josh and Manny have started to become close and Josh is terrified something will go wrong.
I really enjoyed this Sanctuary story, as we really get to know Manny. Finally, after seeing him in so many of the other stories. His interaction with Josh is really good. Although, they do get physical Manny realizes that as the Bullen case heats up he has to put off his wants until a later date. Josh doesn’t really know what to expect, as he is in witness protection and he doesn’t see it ending anytime soon. So, getting involved with Manny will have to be temporary… although, he longs for more. Manny and Josh are really hot together and you can feel for both of them as they struggle to find a way to make it work in the longer term.
The storyline for this was a bit tenser, as everyone is digging as deep as they can to get concrete evidence on the Bullens. Beautifully done, such a twist right at the end, and the Bullen brothers no longer have financial backing. Ha. serves them right. We also get a brief glimpse of Sean (FBI mole) and that leaves us with something to chew on for the future.
So I highly recommend this if you like intrigue, a touch of action, adrenalin rushes, some really hot sex, guns, computers and a happy ending. (Make sure you keep an eye out for Jake’s and Sean’s story around November time.)(less)
Sean and Yana are back, with Sean just completing his training to become an agent of the Peace Keepers and Yana settling into semi-retirement. Their relationship is going strong, but Sean begins to have concerns on their first mission together and then Yana’s ex shows up causing waves… but, the worst for both of them is Sean’s disappearance, can Yana get to Sean in time?
This is a great novella giving us a look into the life of Yana and Sean as they go on missions and resolve personal difficulties. Yana and Sean are a great couple. their relationship is going well and Sean is about to go on his first mission, but Yana voices his doubts when he hears the Krill’s might be heading in the same direction which makes Sean feel like Yana doesn’t really believe in his abilities. Later, on a break on Earth, Yana’s ex sticks his nose in and Sean leaves Yana. Luckily, Aaron and Noel stage an intervention. Then Sean is kidnapped and Yana must save him, but will Sean ever recover?
Quite a bit of action and excitement with arguments and recriminations, misunderstandings and forgiveness are in this story. We have the wonderful Yana and Sean and although their relationship is great, it is about to hit a very rocky patch. Not only that, but Yana’s concern makes Sean feel as though he is incapable of his new job and then we have the kidnapping, which is quite heart-breaking for Yana and very disturbing for Sean. I quite liked the way we could have a peek into Yana and Sean’s lives and the action of the missions was really good. Sean’s reaction to the ex was completely over the top though and I think Yana forgave him too quickly. I would have made him stew for a lot longer.
So, I recommend this to those who love sci-fi, action, danger, personal conflict, over the top reactions, very forgiving natures and a happy ever after. (less)
Jack is living a nightmare, his husband (Dex) and son (Nicky) have returned from an amusement ride but they are not his husband and son… but soon he begins to question his sanity as the evidence mounts up that they are in fact Dex and Nicky. Why has this happened to him? Where are the real Dex and Nicky? And why is he so attracted to the new Dex?
Okay, so yeah… I mean wow, but damn this is a book that raised the hair on my neck. Jack falls into a situation that nobody could ever dream of, two complete strangers declare that they are his husband and son and the real ones are nowhere to be found. What is even worse is Jack’s mom and dad are convinced they are Dex and Nicky, and then there are all the photos, just how did they manage to do that? Is Jack losing his mind or is there really something more sinister going on?
Okay now this is a difficult review to write because I really don’t want to give anything away, but other than what I have wrote above anything else would give you hints and clues, and well, I think you should go in blind and get the full experience of confusion, doubts and fear as Jack experiences it. I am not even going to cover the second half of the book because that’s where everything becomes clear. Dex and Nicky have been replaced, but have they? You actually begin to think that Jack has lost it, but inconsistencies crop up but then there is Jack’s parents to consider and you think why would they do that to their son? They wouldn’t… or would they?
This story bounces you back and forth between thinking Jack’s lost his mind, and there is a conspiracy going on, it keeps you unstable for some time before it begins to unravel its secrets for you, and honey they are whoppers. The situation between Jack and the ‘new’ Dex is interesting, Jack is certain ‘Dex’ isn’t his husband but can’t fight his reaction to him so there are hot sex scenes between them, but Jack really doesn’t trust ‘Dex’ and finds it hard to interact with the new ‘Nicky’.
So I recommend this book if you like science fiction, government secrets, running for your lives, dodging… (Read the book!), a surprise that will shock (I never saw it coming *the first bit I suspected, the second bit nuh-uh*) and hot sex, with mystery, confusion and a kinda happy ending for two broken men. Conner works for a company that secretly investigates anything alien, making sure alien artifacts don’t fall into the wrong hands. But, just recently somebody is getting to the artifacts before they can. On top of that worry, Conner seems to have gained a stalker who he has a very strange connection with, is it friend or foe? Noah has managed to stay under Primrose’s radar since the company came into being, but now he has inadvertently connected to one of its workers, Conner. Noah tries to keep clear, but it’s not long before Primrose comes for him. Will the connection between Noah and Conner work for them or against them?
This is a great alien story that has a wealth of detail, great characters and an intriguing plot. Noah has been stranded on Earth for hundreds of years, living a quite unassuming life and not drawing attention to himself. Inadvertently he makes a connection that he hasn’t felt in 270 years, he has high hopes, but then finds out Conner has a boyfriend. And that isn’t the least of his problems when he receives a visit from Primrose. Conner is shocked when something strange happens to him, but he tries to push it to the back of his mind as he starts dating a new man. Unfortunately, things become confusing for him when he discovers he has a connection to an alien and then he comes under suspicion when alien artifacts disappear from his work place and then Noah disappears as well.
Aliens, Smith and Jones is far from the typical alien story. Noah Jones might have been found by Primrose, but they never experimented on him, okay so he went through a lot of tests but he wasn’t treated badly. I really liked the way that Primrose is portrayed in this book, although they do hunt aliens and alien artifacts it is more for the safety of the world, but without the need to experiment. I really was puzzled by Conner’s boyfriends’ role at first, but it soon began to come clear and it added a really good twist. I liked how we were drawn into the workings of Primrose and what they actually do, so we didn’t see them as the enemy.
What happens between Noah and Conner because of their connection I won’t say much about, but let’s just say that it saves both of them on more than one occasion. The action is well written and I liked how the mystery was done. there is some betrayal and a really horrific time in store for Noah at the hands of unscrupulous characters. The sex in this book is really hot and it is intense when Noah and Conner finally get it together. Their connection is something that is quite beautiful. There are some times when anguish and fear shine through and the descriptions are impressive and you can imagine just how emotionally painful it is.
I am going to recommend this one to those who like clandestine agencies, aliens, secret agendas, alien loving, a great storyline and a happy ending.(less)
Wesley is shocked when he finds his father’s notes among his mother’s things. They detail an experiment that was overtaken by the government years ago. Now, Wesley faces the results of the government experiment as they are sent to bring him in. Stone is amazed when he discovers who Wesley really is and begins to hope he is the answer to his and his brother’s problems. But, first they have to lose the The Company and their Alters.
Amylea Lyn has produced an interesting story that begins with a naive scientist and government betrayal and is obviously the beginning to a brilliant new series. Wesley is a brilliant man, but he is hopeless in social settings. When he teams up with Stone, his awkwardness is apparent, but his sweetness shines through. Stone has never been allowed to have emotions and has had them beaten out of him, but The Company failed and although Stone is very awkward with his emotions and very rusty with them, they are still there and very apparent when he talks about or is with his brothers.
Seeing Wesley and Stone fumble about with their feelings for each other is quite sweet. But, we are always reminded that they are in danger and The Company will never stop looking for them. Stone has five brothers and we meet each of them; Fury, Blade, Trigger, Ghost and Locke. When Stone discovers who Wesley is, they all defect from The Company and they have to stay one step ahead not to fall into their hands again. The Company wants Wesley and they are determined to find out what he knows about his father’s experiment and discovery.
The storyline is really good and the plot is interesting. The characters are brilliant. I can’t wait for the other brothers’ stories so they can begin to heal emotionally. There are times of danger, times of loving and times of anger and they all blend well. I really did enjoy this story, but at times I felt disconnected from the story and I can’t even tell you why. I would be in the story and then suddenly I would seem to drift for a few pages. I’d read it, but it was as though those few pages was filler with no substance, which really was a shame because Amylea Lyn has developed a really good story base and some brilliant characters. She has great baddies and a brilliant lead for the next book.
I will recommend this to those who like secret government agencies (baddies), a collection of hot men who want to be normal, two men falling in sweet love, hot sex and an ending that makes us want the next book now.(less)
Matthew enjoys his job as a narcotics detective, one of a team of four who have been shutting down drug-rings across the city. He might have a hinkey feeling about his current case but otherwise life is good, until he meets Kira (Frankie) and falls hard. Both Kira’s and Matthew’s jobs makes it hard to be gay but they can’t resist each other, but coming out is not an option until the bad guys try to get their revenge.
Wow, all I can say is wow, this book was great to read, it leads us through their relationship and then BAM we get a brilliant twist that shows both Kira and Matthew in their elements and gives us a spectacular ending. Matthew is a closeted cop and Kira a closeted boxing instructor, but once they meet they are perfectly happy to share their closets together, both men know the impact that coming out would have on their careers and although they would like to tell the world of their love they aren’t ready yet. Unfortunately for them a case that Matthew is working on blows up in all their faces and more than their love hangs in the balance.
The characters in this book are all wonderful with Matthew and Kira leading the way. Matthew is a confident man but behind closed doors with Kira he is unsure and shy but damn is he cute, Kira is definitely the one leading the way and he pursued Matthew with just the right amount of confidence. I thought the storyline was great, both Matthew and Kira getting to know each other and spending time together before they declare their love for each other, and then we have Matthew’s case puzzling him and that gets woven really well and then we have the twist towards the end where the case and relationship crash together.
This story is well written, the characters are great along with the supporting characters, and we never get bored with what is going on, the story pulls us along nicely. The part near the end where Matthew worries about Kira is brilliantly written, with both of them reacting as you would expect in that situation, but the love they have and the slightly awkward acceptance that they find with Matthew’s friends is great. This is a great story that covers all aspects and gives you plenty of romance, action, suspense and some wonderful hot sex.
So I recommend this to those who love cops, hot men, action, suspense, a slight mystery, romance, danger and a happy ending for some great characters. (less)
Aoshi is twenty-three but looks seventeen, as part of his mission he is undercover as a schoolboy, while there something happens that brings forth Kyuubi-Onna the Nine-tail goddess, and it sets in motion events that endanger Aoshi and the Tokujogumi, reveal some clans plans for war and will awaken and release a deadly Oni.
This is a brilliant, complex ninja, sacred Goddess, underhand clans, ancient evils and sacred blades story that is woven together to give us an action packed adventure that isn’t easy on either the body or the heart. Aoshi is part of the Tokujogumi clan, they are all outcasts (nukenin) from their own clans and have bandied together to form a clan of their own, they take any jobs to make money. But now something is happening to Aoshi, he doesn’t feel quite right and suddenly he has sexual feelings and he is acting on them with men, his old clan is sniffing around and an enemy from the past wants to destroy him.
I swear to God there is no way in hell that I can describe everything that goes on in this book because it’s mind boggling how complex this story is because everything that happens it’s all interwoven somehow, and always leads back to Aoshi and his enemy Onizuka. There are Three Legendary Blades, Clans who are sneaking and backstabbing trying to get the blades, Aoshi has to understand and master his new powers and what he has to do to refuel them, the Tokujogumi are running around trying to help Aoshi who always seem to disappear and then turn up naked with hot women, there’s near death experiences, death, brutal fights, gritty and dark sex scenes and no happy for now or happy ever after ending.
One of the things that I will warn you all about is the sex, there is a lot of it and in some places it’s nasty and brutal, but you can see how and why it happened, the way that Aoshi manipulated the situation to benefit himself and we also see explicit sex scenes of M/F AND F/M/F most of which is integral to the storyline (honest Aoshi has to basically refuel with sex) there are also a couple of scenes that will creep you out especially as the teachers think he is only seventeen. This is quite a dark storyline and I will be honest, Aoshi really doesn’t know what his true sexuality is although he does fall in love with a man, so we are left with Aoshi confused a lot of the time.
This is a really well written story that will drag you in and keep you reading until the end, there’s loads of action with some spectacular explosions and brilliant fight scenes, there’s mythical clans i.e. shape shifters and Demon insects and there are the Legendary Blades that can do some really nasty stuff *shudder*, we have an Oni and a sorceress, and oh so much more. This is a truly great read that is dark, gritty and brutal and definitely not for the faint hearted.
So I will recommend this to those who love Japanese folk laws, ninja’s, complex storylines, hot sex, brutal action and adventure and something to get your teeth into and an ending that will make you wince.(less)
This is the concluding story to The Fire Trilogy and R.J. Scott doesn’t let us down. If you haven’t read the others in the series, then you need to for this one to make sense.
Eoin is the Guardian of the City but all isn’t well. He knows that two members of the council are conspiring to take his Amber fire to prolong their own lives and he also knows that the previous Guardian is building an army to take revenge on the council. He has to stop all of this as well as find his bond mate and save him. Trystyn disappeared several years ago and in all that time he has been held by Wynn, the old Guardian, who has been stealing his Amber fire. When he is rescued he has to make Eoin realize that all six of them together can defeat Wynn and the council.
I found this book brilliant. The way that Eoin takes responsibility because he doesn’t want any danger coming to his friends even though he hasn’t seen them in years is incredibly sweet. Trystyn is an extremely strong character who makes me wish this book was longer so we could get to know him better. There is a lot more action in this book as it wraps up everything so there are no loose ends and it is done brilliantly and the writing is smooth.
I recommend that if you love hot men, magic, a bit of danger and a fantastic ending then this is definitely for you.
This is slightly different from what I am used to from R.J. Scott but it is no less impressive. Dale may be an ex-Navy Seal but a horrific incident in his past has jaded him to the Seals and he has no faith in them. Joseph is an active Navy Seal and he wants to find his sisters killer but when he finds brick walls thrown up in his way he is determined to get to the truth even if he has to tear them down with his bare hands.
Well this is a slightly gritty more brutal story than the last one and all I can say is that Dale and Joseph have a more un-traditional connection than the normal romance that we are used to. Joseph wants justice for his sister but Dale doubts that is all he wants, Dale is convinced that Joseph will go in guns blazing to kill the one who ordered the hit on his sister, Joseph just wants the man who did order the hit to pay for it through the courts so his mother and step-father can have some peace.
Dale and Joseph are both strong confident men who have both got careers that they love. The connection between them is hard to see at first because of Dale’s attitude toward Joseph, but you get a feel for both of them and once Dale accepts Joseph is not one step away from a bloodbath his longing for the other man comes through. We get to see past characters of Morgan and Nik as they are still trying to bring down the Bullen’s and Joseph tracks them down trying to find answers.
This isn’t a traditional relationship… they are not going to buy a little house with a picket fence, Joseph is going to still be gone a lot but Dale will be his port in the storm, this is a beginning for them and I don’t know why but I think that they still have another story in them.
So I will recommend this to those who love danger, explosive car chases, hot sex, total alpha men, bloody rescues and a happy (for these men) ending.
I really enjoyed this one, it was a refreshing change to read a shifter book that wasn’t all about sex and mates; although there is a lot hot sex and some discussion about mating.
Rob is horrified when he finds out that Jamie is a Wolf. He has nothing against them personally but he wouldn’t have sex with one…if he had a choice. Jamie doesn’t usually sleep with humans but there is just something about Rob. When Rob kicks him to the curb, Jamie realizes what has happened too late.
I thought the way that Rob handled everything was masterful, Jamie was headstrong and willful the supporting characters were incredible, too. They really added to the story. The story line is fantastic and written really well. Hopefully, this is opening up a new avenue in shifter stories where we have more realistic story lines and a different aspect to the ‘mating’ rules.
If you love shifter stories, hot men and crime stories then this is for you. Diane Adams & R.J. Scott, I can’t wait for the next one.(less)
This book is part of a series and must be read in order. Tristan is left reeling with questions after the confrontation with the Goddess Ki, discovering more secrets and lies from his brother and unable to trust any of the council. Now he has to focus on protecting his consort, Ushna, and his tribe and to learn who he can trust, he also has to learn what he can about just who is out to assassinate him and how to harness his new powers.
This story continues from where Twin Flames ended and oh my god it was brilliant! Tristan has so much dumped on his plate in this story; I am surprised his head didn’t explode. Wow okay where to begin hmmm… Tristan is inadvertently hurt by the Goddess Ki when she is supposed to help him, so Tristan’s trust in her is gone, but he needs her help and gives her another chance which she again inadvertently breaks, so, well Tristan’s reaction is expected. Ushna and Tristan have an important decision to make (and that’s where Ki screwed up again), they have mysteries that come to light and Tristan discovers the truth about his family… oh his ranch gets invaded by a murderer and his followers and Tristan really does come into his own.
There really isn’t that much that I can tell you about this story without giving away the really good bits, and I don’t want to do that… well I do but I am not that mean ;-) Ushna is again an incredible man, Tristan still doubts himself a bit, the warriors prove themselves in battle, they all discover new information and secrets, the Gods and Goddess’s begin to play their parts and all the other character play their parts brilliantly. There’s a surprise for Tristan, left to him by his betraying Twin Flame and it really peeves Tristan off. The ending for this book is one that will make you want to cry… because you want the next book in your hands.
This story is wonderful, it flows brilliantly and it pulls you in, making you turn the next page wanting more of this incredible series… it leaves you hungering for more, making you wish it was longer. It is filled with descriptions that take you there… makes you envisage that you are standing there as the enemy charge towards you, has your heart pounding along with Tristan’s as he fights the urge to make Ushna his in every way and makes your throat tight as Tristan realises that his life is changed forever. God damn but I love this series… so unique and refreshing; I really can’t wait for the next book.
I have to recommend this to those who love unique shifters, secrets, battles, danger, a huge surprise, incredibly hot sex and an ending that leaves you wanting more… right now!(less)
This book is part of a series and MUST be read in order. Roan is back and he knows that his control on his lion is slipping. It is getting harder and harder to ignore the need for bloodshed and it doesn’t help matters when infecteds become targets yet again. Holden gets in more trouble than he can handle, but payback is a bitch. Dylan is struggling to get Roan to admit to everything that is happening to him and it puts a bigger strain on their relationship. But, Roan is not just fighting for his life; he is fighting for his very Identity.
I love this series and the way it seems to grow and the characters become more involved in a world that seems to becoming more out of control. Roan and Dylan love each other, but Roan doesn’t want Dylan seeing him at his most brutal. He has Holden for that now, he needs Dylan not to be tainted by his lion side as Dylan is (as far as Roan is concerned) the only thing that is keeping Roan human. In the midst of him fighting the battle to stay human, there is a new drug designed to kill Infecteds and someone is hunting the Infecteds when they are in cat form.
For those of you not familiar with the Infected series I advise you to go and pick up the first book before even trying to read any others, especially this one. There really isn’t much that can be said about this book except bloody hell! Lesser Evil is a story that is as brutal as those that came before it but more despairing, because it forces Roan into a situation that he doesn’t want to be in, and forces him to do things he doesn’t want to do. it also makes him face just how different he is from the other Infecteds and how much humans hate them. Roan and Holden are characters that appeal to your darker side, while the hockey players and Dylan appeal to the fun, happy, more normal side of you.
This book is for those who want a true realistic side of shifters, the brutal, painful changes, and the hate from humans, the self-hate and the primal need of the beast. The push and pull of someone who loves an Infected, like Dylan, who is trying to make Roan share all of himself or the easy acceptance from the crazies (lol) like Hawk, Tank and Scott (hockey players) and Holden, especially Holden, who can easily accept the cold bloodiness of Roan’s Lion. Holden, we see a lot of in this book and we also see his confusion as he finds himself in some kind of ‘relationship’ with someone else who is close to Roan. This book also ends with a huge cliff-hanger, will Roan make it back?
This book I recommend to those who want the dark, brutal side of shifters, where being an Infected is a death sentence, and having friends is a blessing and having someone who loves you is a miracle that feels like a curse.(less)
This book is part of a series and must be read in order This is a two story book, Life After Death & Hysteria. Roan is being dragged kicking and screaming back to life a year after Paris died, he doesn’t want to live without his Paris but none of their friends will let him slip away like he wants to. The grief is killing him and he has dreams or hallucinations of Paris. As he starts to live again he comes to realise how much he leaned on Paris and had his support. He also starts to learn some truths about himself. Roan does have a new love interest in this book but he doesn’t know if he will ever get over Paris.
Roan's grief is palpable and I will be honest I sobbed my heart out at the end of the last book when Paris died, Roan's friend's are there for him making sure he lives during the year that he loses himself to grief and it's only when he takes on a case again that he starts to live again, the way this book has been written is brilliant although because of the pace I kept losing the time line, as Roan just seems to do so much in a short amount of time.
This is not a nice were-cat story. This is a story that take’s you away from the nice safe shifter stories that we are used to. This is the opposite side of the spectrum, this shows it as being a disease, where you can be infected through blood and unsafe sex, where you don’t have a choice when you change, you are fixed to a cycle which has nothing to do with the moon, where it’s bloody and painful to change and you don’t know what you do in your cat form and the worse thing of all is as the virus takes its toll on your body and you will die young. Roan is an exception to this rule; he was born infected the only one that they know of that has survived and they don’t know why he was not affected as other born infected had been.
There are no sex scenes in this book just like the previous two; its inferred sex takes place. My recommendation is this… read this book, it’s not a happy cheerful book it’s more gritty and realistic and it draws you into the story line and makes you keep reading. P.S. if you haven’t read the previous two go and get them because this entire series is brilliant. (less)
This is a very good action story, with a touch of mystery and betrayal thrown in. Vance leads his own team in Conleth’s organisation as well as being a FBI agent, he has a childhood that has led him to build walls around his heart and no woman will gain his trust… until Ginna walks into his life and her son Theo worms his way into Vance’s heart. Ginna doesn’t approve of all of Vance’s methods but she can see the damaged heart he protects and somehow she manages to gain his trust.
Okay for those of you who prefer (like me) just M/M then this book will be a bit of a let-down, the only reason I read it in the end was because it was a part of a series that I was enjoying, and lucky for me there was no yucky girly bits and I did get to see both couples Conleth and Bain and also Roger and Rico. I will also say this… the storyline was great, taking us along through the earlier parts of Vance’s life and then onto missions that he did for the ‘Old Man’ leading in the end to a betrayal from someone he thought was a friend. This story has really been mislabelled when it is called a romance it is more like the action, mystery stories where the hero gets his woman in the end, there’s no true romance and if Ginna hadn’t of had a son then Vance would never have had anything to do with her.
My rating is solely for the action, mystery storyline because that in the end was what made me read this book, I really enjoyed the previous stories in this series and being completely honest I would never have bought it if had read the blurb, but I bought it on blind faith because it was part of an M/M series by an M/M author… and yes while there are a couple of M/M scenes involving the couples from the previous books this is in essence an action, adventure, mystery story that falls very heavily on the M/F angle.
So if you are an M/M fan who can accept that there is an M/F storyline but with some M/M thrown in, some great action in the form of foiling assassins, foiling bomb plots, destroying paedophile rings, taking out a mole and drug cartel and a damaged man opening up tentatively then this is the book for you. Ah, I love mysteries and this one was no different, a pure joy to read. Corey is on vacation cruise with his family for his mother’s birthday but as the ship pulls away from the docks he has a vision of an explosion and so begins a mystery that follows him across the sea.
This is a well written storyline with a good plot that doesn’t keep you hanging for too long. Corey is still suffering mentally from what happened to him in Murder at the Green Lantern and decides to just go with it on this vacation. With the encouragement of his sisters he hooks up with dancer Raul while trying to help solve the mystery of who the terrorists are.
I really liked Corey in this story and I will hold my hands up and admit that I didn’t read Murder at the Green Lantern because I didn’t like Corey in Breathless but now I have to go and read it… gggrrr. I have to say that it was great to see Corey with his family and his romance with Raul was hot. The mystery was good and although I did guess who the bomber was, I really liked the twist that emerged.
So I would recommend this for those who love mystery, danger, hot sex and the paranormal but don’t expect everything to smell of roses.(less)
Lark has no choice but to leave his partner behind when his partner got captured, he has lived with the guilt for six months but he tried everything he could to get his partner out, now six months later Derek is his prisoner and Lark tries to get Derek to face the truth. Derek doesn’t know what to believe but he knows that he has to try and resist the man he loves and escape out of the hellhole he is in.
This book is well written and is extremely intense from the beginning till the end. Lark knows the truth of what really happened six months ago while Derek believes what he has been told by the Intergalactic Investigation Bureau now they are face to face and both men are bitter and angry and it is directed at each other. This is a very emotional explicit story as we see both men struggle with their feelings of anger, betrayal and guilt for different reasons.
There are unexpectedly numerous explicit, erotic sex scenes which have a BDSM kink but nothing really heavy. All the scenes are intense as we progress through the book and we get an overview of what happened to separate the two men in the first place and we see the progression of the relationship as they admit their feelings to each other but it isn’t an easy ride for either men as they try to sort out their doubts, escape and to admit that they had both changed since they last saw each other.
The storyline is good and I really can’t wait for the next book in the series as I really want to see how the plot will unfold, we get the beginning in this book as Derek finally realises just where the betrayal came from and Lark knows beyond a doubt that he was left on Lancarina in deep cover to die, now with both men back together anything is possible ;-). We also have some dark areas where torture and rape are alluded to and the brutal treatment that Derek suffered and Lark had to dish out while undercover are spoken or thought of.
I have to recommend this one to those who love science fiction, brutal worlds, deep betrayal, lies, truth, really hot erotic sex, two men looking for the truth and a happy ending. (less)
Diego decides to go for broke with his roommate Beck; he has been in love with the man for years and now is the time to do something about it, and it is the best night of his life. But having to escape from thugs the next morning, carrying a package that Beck won’t talk about, makes Diego believe the worse and Diego swears to get Beck free of whatever underworld trap he has fallen into. Beck has wanted to tell Diego the truth for years, but was ordered not to, now Diego is loose with a Louisville Slugger believing he is rescuing Beck and their friend Denise. Beck has to bring Diego into the murky paranormal world he lives in, and just hope that Diego can forgive him.
This book opens with a hot, hot, hot scene, and then before long we are thrown head long into a chase across rooftops and down back allies. Diego dragged himself away from a life where danger was at every turn, losing his brother to a drug lord made him determined to live a good life and he has. But just when he and Beck confess their feelings and spend an explosive night together, a mystery package is delivered and some thugs come after Beck. Now Diego has a choice to make and it becomes even harder when he learns the truth about Beck’s job, and what really happened to his brother.
I give you all full warning, the first chapter is soooooo hot that you will need a fan to cool yourselves off, wooohooo it’s steamy and passionate with some slight kink that will get your motor revving. Throughout the rest of the book its action, secrets uncovered and soul-searching, and having to decide what is best for all. I have got to say that Lexi Ander has written a paranormal story where you just don’t know where it’s heading, and it’s a joy to find out. Beck and Diego are well suited, especially in the bedroom *wink*, and they are great friends, but trust is very important to Diego, and he has to work through his reaction to Beck’s secret.
Diego is actually more than he seems, but you don’t quite know what it all means, his abuela has kept things hidden from Diego, even while feeding him tidbits of information in the way of stories. Beck has kept his real job a secret from Diego to keep him safe, he has always wanted to be truthful to his best friend and the man he loves, and now he has the chance he could have lost Diego because trust is such an important thing. These two men are hot together that there is no doubt about, the storyline is brilliant and well written, and the plot looks to be far-reaching.
I have to recommend this if you love secret organisations, hot sex, secret kinks, great characters, a great storyline with a happy ending and the promise of more to come. (less)
This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Jubilee and Kieran are dragged into an undercover operation when Dillon (Sheriff of Lone Trail) is murdered; it leads them to a child sex trafficking ring. They discover a link to a cult and set out to trap the leader, but there are problems closer to home when they discover someone trying to recruit Pauline (Jubilee’s sister) and her sons for the cult, and someone else gives Jubilee’s nephew’s drugs and Sunny (Darlene’s husband) is brutally attacked in a gay bashing. Can Jubilee and Kieran solve all their new problems and keep their relationship going?
This story is a great addition to the Orgasmic Texas Dawn series. We left off the last book with a desperate late night visit from Dillon’s wife, Elsie, and we now find out exactly what happened. Jubilee and Kieran have a very passionate relationship and they finally decide just what is most important to both of them, and what they both want. This story is filled with all sorts of complications as Jubilee investigates Dillon’s murder; it leads them to Kieran going undercover as the cat houses new owner.
We are joined by characters from previous books in the way of Sunny and Earl; we have some new characters joining us and some hair-raising circumstances. Jubilee’s and Kieran’s relationship is strong, even if they have had to hide it, and we see how it progresses further and the realization they both come to and the decisions they make. The characters are strong and the written is good, the storyline moves very fast and there is a lot going on, so much so that you do have to suspend reality a little, but we do get some quality naked time with Kieran and Jubilee (although Jubilee really should destroy his phone lol).
I enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to the rest of the series, being able to see how Kieran’s and Jubilee’s relationship progresses and deepens is great, the new addition to the family should make things interesting and fresh. I will admit to being sad to see some of the characters gone as I really did like them, and I honestly think that Darlene needs a psych evaluation because she is clearly insane and doesn’t live in the real world.
I will recommend this to those that love cowboys, crime, strong characters, hot sex, surprising turns and a brilliant happy ending. (less)
John Jones/Aidan Whittaker is on a negotiation mission, his plans begin to be derailed by Babcock who is sticking his nose where it could cause trouble. Scott just wants to take pictures… and get in the hot archaeologists bed, but he gets more trouble when his boss Babcock arranges a meeting with a local tribal leader.
This is an interesting combination of settings, you have the first part of the book set in Tajikistan near the Afghanistan boarder which is dry, dusty, dangerous and fraught with tension then in the second part of the book you have the quaint village of Avebury, Wiltshire in England which is green, lush, quiet and fraught with murderous stories of the long dead.
In the first part we have John Jones MI6 Negotiator who is trying to broker a deal with some of the tribal leaders, his cover is that of an archaeologist, complications set in when a reporter turns up sticking his nose in where it’s not wanted and his photographer who John feels an instant attraction to, there is danger, a recuse mission, hot sex, a parting of ways and a gun-fire fight which ends with John’s life hanging in the balance.
In the second part we have Scott Landon Photographer who has been affected more than he thought over what happened to John, he starts to investigate when he realises that all may not be as it seems and it leads to the discovery of Aidan Whittaker expert of Ancient Languages and Literature and an archaeologist. From then on we see Scott’s pursuit of Aidan as he tries to become friends and something more.
This is a brilliantly woven story about two men who get their wires crossed, both of them thinking the other doesn’t want them when they both actually want the same thing. We see Scott trying to get through to Aidan that he wants more than just quick sex, while Aidan thinks that Scott couldn’t want an older man with a damaged leg who just wants to settle down in the little village he found.
So this is a great book that has a little of everything for everyone, danger, tension, hot sex, gun-fights, slow romance, quaint setting, local hauntings and nosy villages... oh and keep an eye out for the cat TBC (That Bloody Cat) that does battle with Aiden every chance he gets. I highly recommend this one, so get this book, read it and enjoy. (less)
Liam is a vampire that kills to survive and he even gets paid for it, when he is asked to kill his ex he jumps at the chance, but when he gets there and finds out that his death is also required he is not happy. Daniel has been looking into his father’s business and now his dad wants him dead, he has to work with the one he betrayed if he wants to get out alive and even then it’s not a sure thing.
This is a great story-line and plot and it has some interesting world building that whets your appetite, the characters are great and the sex is really hot. Liam’s world was destroyed five years ago by his ex and all because his ex-boyfriend didn’t want him to get a mod, Liam ended up cast out and in the Gutter with no one to help him. Daniel didn’t want Liam to get more mods as he hates mods and what they do to people, but he never really meant for Liam to be cast out, now five years later his father wants him dead and his ex is the one who wants to pull the trigger.
I really thought the story-line and plot were great, so were the characters, but I just didn’t get the feeling that they were suited to each other and I just couldn’t get how they just forgave each other either, I mean it was as though two planks of wood were facing each other for all the emotion that they showed each other at first, I was expecting more angst and some sort of explanation that made sense and not just a spoiled brat who ruined someone’s life just because he couldn’t get his own way, and honestly, shooting someone just to check and then being amused by it showed Daniel in a Psychopathic light and he also wasn’t very remorseful for ruining Liam’s life either. Liam is completely justified in his wanting to kill Daniel and I really couldn’t understand why he took the crap off Daniel and then apologised (Door Mat) he’s supposed to be a cold blooded assassin (Door Mat).
Now the story was great, the action was really good and the sex is hot. There is a very good basis here for future books, but for me this one fell short because of the interaction between the two characters. So I will recommend this for the Action, the Vampire, the hot sex and seeing Daniel get cut into. Mwahahah. Er sorry slipped out. (less)
The Seven Kingdoms are being systematically conquered by the dark wizard king, Meglar, he won’t stop until he has them all under his rule, and there is nobody powerful enough to stop him. Farrell is a young Grand Master wizard and he knows that the Gods have plans for him, he will one day have to face Meglar, but first he has to help some of the Gods followers.
This story is absolutely brilliant, an action packed, high fantasy that drags your imagination along on an epic journey. Farrell is the Gods Chosen, he knows that one day he will have to face the dark Grand Master Melgar and is preparing for that day. When he is asked by the Gods to help a neighbouring Kingdom and informed that he will meet his mate, he is determined to do as the Gods ask. Meeting Miceral in the midst’s of battle surprises him, but the safety of a nation comes first. This is the beginning of an adventure filled with magic, danger, negotiation and love.
I really don’t think that I am able to really do justice to this story, I have to admit that I am floundering as to get my thoughts into words…this book dragged me in and didn’t let go until the last page and even then I wanted more. The storyline is fantastic, the characters are brilliant and the action is incredible, I loved every magic filled minute. Farrell is a character that is secure in his position as a wizard and a prince, but when it comes to love is unsure and scared. Miceral knows that Farrell is the one for him and has no doubts; he has to ease Farrell’s doubts and convince him that Farrell is more than enough for him. For some people it will seem that they connected very quickly, but when it has been ordained by the Gods, well, how can you complain?
There are lots of incredible details in this story, even during the battles; they give you enough so you can picture in your mind exactly what it must look like. With some stories we can become bogged down with details, but with this story there is always just enough to fuel the imagination. Farrell and Miceral’s relationship is great, they are well suited and are a great support for each other, when they have the joining ceremony it is a beautiful moment in the book. The interaction between all the characters is brilliant and each one is drawn into the story in their own right, and they fit perfectly. There is so much I want to say about this story, but to be honest I would ruin it because this is just one of those books that you have to read for yourself.
I have to recommend that everyone gives this book a shot, because this story is filled with everything that you could ever want from a high fantasy; magic, magical creatures, great battles, rescues, escapes, and an assortment of great characters, a brilliant storyline and an ending that leaves you wanting more. Shae and Bless find themselves on the frigid mining planet, Glacialis, it is only for a one month stint, but from the second they land they are made to feel far from welcome. When a miner comes looking for treatment Shae gets the feeling there is more going on than just company mining, and he and Bless volunteer to help the undercover Ranger. As they investigate Shae falls for the Ranger, Bless gets anonymous cards from an admirer and both they and their protector’s head towards horrifying danger.
This is a great combination of steampunk and science fiction, a story that takes steampunk to the stars while giving us an adventure of love and danger. Shae and Bless aren’t impressed when they reach Glacialis, the foreman and the security head both make it clear that they are far from welcome and Shae and Bless decide to keep their heads down. When Tuor (miner/Ranger) needs patching up Shae feels an attraction to him, but it isn’t until Shae stumbles upon blood on an outside wall that Tuor admits the truth and the two come together in more than just investigation.
I enjoyed this story for its imaginative creation of steampunk in space, the characters interaction and the great storyline. We get a good understanding of the rules that they live under for space exploration, the company that Shae and Bless work for and why they are heading to Glacialis. The characters don’t get to interact much because of circumstances, but both their relationships hit them hard and fast, Shae and Tuor as they make plans and Bless and his admirer when Bless needs him most. There are some brilliant descriptions, from the steam machines used for space travel to the bleak world of Glacialis, the landscape and the danger they face.
This story is for those who love steampunk, science fiction, action, danger, finding love in fleeting moments, rescues and a very happy ending. (less)
