This book has been sitting on my shelf awhile mostly b/c I couldn't remember much from the previous two books in the series and was too lazy to go back and re-read them. Well, I shouldn't have worried that much about it. Yes, there's a series plot arc that I was a bit fuzzy on, but the books stands pretty well as an individual and some of the series plot came back to me as I read.
The series is PNR and this book focused on Claire, a witch who was mosty raised in the demon world until just recently when her master/father/owner/mentor's home was under attack - he pushed a large amount of power into her and then shoved her through a portal into Chicago - followed by two nasty demons out to get her.
Claire manages to hook up with the Chicago coven (which, of course features our characters from books 1 & 2) and is assigned Adam as a protector. Sparks fly between the two as they're pursued across the country by the evil demons.
Sounds trite, but I really enjoyed the chase and the action sequences of this book. It wasn't anything special and the ending wasn't even close to being a surprise, but it was a nice cozy read with some fairly hot (if somewhat repetitive) sex scenes....more

It revolves around five immortals (sons of various world-religion goddesses) who are sworn to come to the world's aid during times of terrible strife. The balance of the world has shifted too far towards the evil side, so a coven of white witches call for the aid of the immortals.
This book is primarily about the immortal brother, Hunter, and the witch he meets, Leda. Though, it's also a pivotal book in the series plot because, as the title suggests, the immortal brothers are finally gathered together for the first time in the series.
This *could* be the last in the series as it seems to wrap up the series plot from the first three books, but it does leave a few minor questions, and there's one brother and some secondary characters who are still un-mated, so of course there are four more books. :-)
I may read the next three as they feature characters we've come to know (and love) from the previous books. However, the fourth seems to be a short story compilation, so I might not get to that one.
This series is a good alternative for readers who have run out of warrior-type books and who like Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series, or Cheyenne McCray's Magic series, or even Alyssa Day's Warriors of Atlantis series....more

With just a few weeks until Christmas, Maggie's job at Enchantments gift shop is as hectic as it is exciting. But when she witnesses a teenage goth girl getting brutally picked on by a trio of mean classmates, her intuition warns her that something very bad is about to happen. When one of the assailants turns up dead a few days later, Maggie's curiosity gets the best of her and she investigates -- only to uncover a secret sex blog that implicates some of Stony Mill's most respected residents.
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Part of it is the girl-next-door type heroine, part of it is the small-town atmosphere that I grew up in. But most of it is just the tone of Alt's writing! Yes, the plot contains enough foreshadowing to give you a good idea who the killer is long before the book reveals it, but you have fun along the way, so I don't mind. I'm looking forward to the next one, especially since this book hinted at some exciting romantic action in the future! :-)
I'd recommend this book to fans of Victoria Laurie's Ghosthunter Mystery series....more

Forget about the typical vampires, werewolves, etc and immerse yourself in a world where Mother Nature is more violent than anything you could possibly imagine and the only thing keeping her from destroying all of us is The Wardens, a group of people with a paranormal talent for controlling weather, earth, & fire.
More particularly, the series is about Joanne Baldwin, a Weather Warden and her "adventures". This book in particular has Jo up against a mysterious, nameless baddie that is trying to splinter the Wardens. The plot is fast and intense, with just enough mix of romance/sex, humor, and fun chick-lit fashion references.
The series is unlike anything else out there. But be forewarned that the author likes cliff-hangers. :-) This is a series I'll definitely be reading through the end....more

The story features Kate Daniels, a mage/warrior, as well as a band of various types of shapeshifters (including the very sexy Curran) and vampires (though definitely not of the Twilight or even Bram Stoker ilk).
In this particular book, Kate is called in to investigate a fight at a bar in neutral territory, but all is not what it seems. The investigation leads her to the discovery of a very dangerous and ancient enemy . . . one that was last seen at the right hand of Kate's powerful father.
I LOVED LOVED this book! In general, the whole series is excellent and definitely one of my top few favorite out there right now. And Curran, the Beast Lord, also tops my list of super sexy heroes. This series is a must read for fans of the genre. I'll be picking up the next one, Magic Slays, as soon as it comes out on May 31, 2011. Two additional books (#6 & #7) are under contract with no release date set as of yet. ...more
