- Heart & Sword - the story of how the colonists came to Celta (specifically takes place on Nuada's Sword). - Heart Story - Arbusca (Blush) Willow's & Heartmate Dri Paris' story. - Heart and Soul - Genista Furze's story post divorce from Tinne Holly. - Noble Heart - Walker Clover's & Sedwy Grove's story - also the story about how the Clovers finally come to be a noble family.
I thoroughly enjoyed all four stories, but found Heart Story a bit less engaging than the other three. There was a slightly odd ending that felt forced (perhaps in order to put soemthing about a sword into the story?). STill a great story, but not as great as the others - and the only reason this got a 4 star rating rather than a 5 star rating.(less)

I first read it when I was 13 or 14 and continued to pick up Anne McCafrey's entire catalog afterwards. I've read it every few years since (I'm now 34) and still adore it! I even have a signed copy from when I met Ms. McCaffrey back ing 2005. Sadly, the reason I picked it up again was because Ms. McCaffrey passed away just a few days ago - on November 21, 2011. It seemed fitting to read it again now as a celebration of her life and the role she played in turning a young girl into an avid reader.(less)

Elantra is populated by different races: humans, a lion-humanoid race called Leontines, dragons, an elf-like race called Barrani, a winged race called Aerians, and a telepathic race called Tha'alani. The first book introduced the world, the races and protagonist, Kaylin Neya. The recent books have been Kaylin solving various problems, but they each focus more on one race than another. The second book was about the Barrani. The third book, about the Tha'alani. This fourth book was mostly about the Leontines.
Kaylin's trusted sergeant and surrogate father has been detained for murder. It's up to Kaylin, et. al. To navigate the politics & customs of the various races of Elantra to uncover the true story behind the murder.
I love this series. It's one of my all-time favorites. However, this book was missing some of the elements I've liked most in the previous few. While I love how each book uncovers more about Kaylin's past as well as her mysterious hidden abilities, I miss the romantic angle that we saw in a few earlier books. It's still a fantastic series, though, and I look forward to reading it through it's end.
There will be at least nine books in this series. The next two, Cast in Silence (#5) and Cast in Chaos (#6) are currently available. Cast in Ruin (#7) will be out in September 2011. Cast in Danger (#8) is currently being written, and a ninth book has been purchased by the publisher as well(less)

Lainey Livingston (aka Phenomenal Girl 5) has just been made a member of the Elite Hands of Justice, the world's topmost band of superheroes. It's a dream Lainey has been working for since she was a school girl. However, before becoming a full-fledge member, she must train for two years with The Reincarnist, Robert Elliot. Robert is a magician who, upon death, is instantly reincarnated as a 20 year old man who retains all previous magical knowledge - though not necessarily ALL knowledge. As Lainey & Robert grow closer, a new evil mastermind hatches the most nefarious plot the Elite Hands of Justice have ever seen.
Yes, it sounds hokey - a superhero romance. And yes, this book sat on my TBR shelf for three years. But, let me tell you what a mistake that was! This is a fantastically refreshing book! As a long-time paranormal romance reader, one sees mostly vampires & werewolves with the occasional magic-user type book. But this is the first true superhero book I've seen and it was awesome! I'm definitely picking up the second book in the series, Tekgrrl, (despite hating the LOL Cat style title) sometime very soon. You meet Tekgrrl in this book and I'm looking forward to reading her story in her own book. There's also a third book, Sorceress, Interrupted that features another very minor character in Phenomenal Girl 5.
Since this is an unusual book, the series I've read that is most like this one is Gena Showalter's "Extraordinary Girl" series. However, I think anyone who likes both romance and comic books (or movies based on comics) will like this book. (less)

It takes place in the fantasy land of Rheskilia, with this particular book exclusively on the Isle of Mid, which is essentially a university for mages.
Our protagonist is Raine Benares, an elf who has left her family of pirates to become a Seeker, which is basically just a thief-for-hire. In the first book, Raine is hired to steal a necklace, but gets a surprise when that necklace turns out to be the Saghred - a magical artifact of unimaginable power. The Saghred metaphysically attaches itself to Raine and, of course, all hell breaks loose.
In this book, Raine is tracking down the spectres of six evil mages who escaped The Saghred. They're murdering high-level officials in an effort to gain more power.
The premise sounds a bit boring, but the storyline is anything but. It's a fairly quick-paced book, but there's just enough time for Raine to (finally!) get a little action with one of the guys. You'll just have to read it to find out if it was Tam, Mycheal or someone else. :-)
The elf/goblin politics backstory does start to get a bit more involved, but in a good way, not a boring way. I'll be sure to pick up the fifth book, Con & Conjure, to be released March 2011. A sixth book, All Spell Breaks Loose has been announced on the author's blog, but doesn't yet have a release date (that I can tell).
Similar series are: The Retriever series by Laura Anne Gilman (though more of a UF), the Hero series by Moira M. Moore, Lynn Kurland's "The Nine Kingdom Series, the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews (also more UF), and the Elantra series by Michelle Sagara. (less)
