This is a borderline erotica urban fantasy series featuring half-werewolf, half-vampire, Aussie, Riley Jensen. Riley and her twin brother work for a paranormal policing agency known as The Directorate. Each book is a new piece of a larger mission for Riley and her friends.
This particular book has Riley infiltrating a large event at the home of the local mafia boss. The espionage/spy angle is exciting and well-done. There's not a ton of foreshadowing, so the mystery unravels for the reader pretty much as the same time it does for our protagonist (which I prefer b/c otherwise you spend half the book mentally yelling at the protagonist to stop being so stupid and get a clue!).
As with the other two books, there's quite a bit of sex and violence - definitely an "R" rated book, if not an "NR". Riley isn't in a monogamous relationship, either, so there's not only plenty of sex, but it's with quite a few different partners and not all of it is necessary to further the story. If this bothers you, then this probably isn't a series for you.
There are nine books in the Riley Jensen series (all of them currently available) with a spin-off series (of indeterminate length) planned. If the books continue to be as good as these first three were, I'll definitely be reading through the end. :-) ...more
This series is PNR, but leaning toward the erotica side. There's a lot of gratuitous sex and, in this book, at least one scene of BDSM. It's well-doneThis series is PNR, but leaning toward the erotica side. There's a lot of gratuitous sex and, in this book, at least one scene of BDSM. It's well-done, justifiable within the story and not totally tasteless, but it is in there and may offend some readers.
The series has a UF-like setting - the regular world just with lots of paranormal creatures secretly running around. It takes place in NYC where three brother incubus-demons run an underground demon hospital together. This particular book is about Shade, one of the brothers.
Shade has been captured by a group of demons who have been harvesting the organs of paranormal creatures and selling them on the black market. He wakes up in a dungeon to find himself chained next to former lover - a human woman named Runa. Only Runa isn't human anymore, she's a werewolf and she's still seriously pissed off at Shade and there's a full-moon on the rise.
I really liked this book and the world that Ione has created. I'll definitely be reading the next one, which deals with the brother, Wraith. There are five books in total out in this series as of the writing of this review (Jan 2011)....more
