Very racy and steamy but really romantic too. The pacing and writing is really good. I liked both characters. A very enjoyable, sexy read. 5 stars.(less)

I was really enjoying the stories and I liked how the authors tied their own unique styles to the Tarot deck's major arcana. Some of the stories are centered around a Tarot reading and their Tarot card. I like the ones that interpret the Tarot card without ever actually mentioning the card better. Some of the stories were very short and ended too abruptly. All in all a very enjoyable read. 4 stars.
THE FOOL On the Road to Devil's Gulch ~ Peter Giglio In this story a young man is hitch hiking with a dog. Twenty-three-year-old Bill wants experiences that he can write about. The Tarot Card The Fool has a picture of a young man who is about to walk off a cliff, a dog biting at his heels. This story definitely takes that picture and turns it into a very interesting story.
THE MAGICIAN The Intern's Story ~ Lon Prater
An old man and a young man are at a bingo parlor intent on photographing fairies.
THE HIGH PRIESTESS Deadly Son ~ Billie Sue Mosiman
Katrine tries to warn King Solomon that Sheba will bring catastrophe with her.
THE EMPRESS Flesh In Frame ~ Spike Marlowe
This is a really interesting story about a female artist and plants. A really short, very eerie little tale. I liked this one a lot.
THE EMPEROR Dmitri and the Mad Monk ~ Kris Austen Radcliffe
Dmitri poisons, stabs and shoots Rasputin and then throws him in the river. Dmitri and Rasputin are both shifters and hard to kill.
THE HIEROPHANT On the Shoulders of Muses ~ Jessica McHugh
This is a science fiction story about muses. Delivering inspiration is very scientific in this story. Another very interesting short little tale that I enjoyed a lot.
THE LOVERS A Modern Affair ~ Eden Baylee
Ellen is getting a Tarot reading, the Lovers card comes up and the psychic says that it could represent her having an affair with a younger man. Ellen's older husband is the Director of Obstetrics & Gynecology and she is an erotica writer. Ellen is struggling with writing a sex scene in her book. J.D. Ellsworth is a poet and in an online writer's group that Ellen is a member of and they quickly start messaging each other sexually charged, innuendo filled messages. Their banter is erotic and very steamy. I was disappointed that this story ended so quickly. I liked the little naughty, online affair.
THE CHARIOT Squashfest ~ Annetta Ribken Two Southern girls go to a squashfest, some kind of fair to celebrate squash. They go to the fortune teller's tent. Sally Mae wants to know where her father is. “You’ll have a heap to get over, but in the end you’ll be on the winning side on account you’re ornery and stubborn.” This story seemed like part of a bigger piece. It wasn't really a stand alone story at all.
STRENGTH A Promise in the Dark ~ Rochelle Maya Callen
In Zorilah the Arcana live. This story reminded me a lot of Kresley Cole's The Arcana Chronicles but this takes the Strength card, a girl holding a lion's mouth closed and crafts a story around a girl taming lions in an arena.
THE HERMIT The Hermit ~ Red Tash
The Hermit's magical lantern shows him the truth, but not the only truth.
WHEEL OF FORTUNE Vista Bridge ~ MeiLin Miranda
Juanita tries to save suicides jumping off a bridge by giving them good luck. But life isn't fair and she isn't supposed to have her finger on the wheel.
JUSTICE Justice ~ Catie Rhodes
Peri can see dead people.
THE HANGED MAN Path of Sacrifice ~ Matthew Bryan
A demon story.
DEATH Transformation ~ Timothy Smith
Rose's grandfather is dying. This is a sad little poignant tale.
TEMPERANCE Reply All ~ Anne Chaconas
A story told in emails. The boss's wife is having an affair. A group is gossiping about it in email until a comment is accidentally sent “Reply All” and the entire office knows about it. I thought this story was so clever and funny. I could relate to office gossip through email and the dreaded “Reply All” button.
THE DEVIL Hoarder ~ Patti Larsen
Jane buys more and more things to try to make herself happy. A very scary, creepy little story.
THE TOWER After the Fall ~ Jordan L. Hawk
A psychic powers, sci fi, sweet, romantic story.
THE STAR L’Etoile Flamboyant ~ Samantha Henderson
A tale of The Night Circus
THE MOON The Moon ~ J.H. Sked
Anna has cancer and she goes to her magical friend.
THE SUN The Strange Case of Sal and the Solar Elixir ~ Tristan J. Tarwater
JUDGMENT A Body for Your Birthday ~ Jennifer Wingard

It is my favorite genre but I wasn't really getting into this story. There was a lot going on and it seemed really rushed and the scenes were disjointed and didn't transition well. I think that the pacing was off and that it would have been better to ease into the story and maybe it could have had more characterization so that I could have gotten a better feel for these people. In this book, Eugenics is practiced to create perfect children and they are put through rigorous testing as they age. The ones who do not make it are called culls and they are banished beyond the wall to an extremely harsh world. The book is about Michelle, a 16-year-old girl and her band of rebels. 3 stars.(less)

People are dying from a mysterious illness and Layla's grandmother is buying supplies and weapons. Later people who don't have reflections show up. This story has a really interesting blending of supernatural creatures. This is the beginning of a trilogy. I thought it was a well written story. I liked the pacing of it. I found Layla an interesting, likeable character. The story is action packed and exciting. 3 stars.

Halfway through the book, I rated it four stars and then at the end OH MY GOODNESS! I am giving this book five stars because when a writer writes a book so well that you can't stop reading it and you put your life on hold to finish it. When a writer can breathe life into the characters so that they come alive off of the page. That when your character that you love and care for dies, you feel as if you have lost a close friend or loved one. I think this is a sign of a good writer. I was seriously bawling. I am still depressed an hour later.(less)

Dr. Dora Adler is working in the E.R on her 27th birthday which is Friday the thirteenth and a full moon. She lives in a world where zombie flash mobs are normal and distracts herself from the zombie apocalypse by reading trashy romance novels. Dirk is a werewolf with a white teacup Chihuahua named Fang (“He travels in a pet carrier on my Harley and wears a spike collar,” he retorted defensively.”) and kills zombies with a pair of machetes. Werewolves kill witches and Dora is a witch. They are both captured by an evil doctor who tortures and experiments on them. This book is really good. I was drawn into the story from the very first chapter. I liked Dora a lot. She is a very likeable character. The pacing of the story is really good and it is well written. 4 stars.

This plot is written all over the place, so it was really confusing to figure out what was going on. The story jumps from character to character and differing POV's so I was getting seriously lost. Caspar is in a diner with no idea how he got there. He works for Death. Then the story jumps around through all these other introduced characters, there are vampires and nephilim. It just felt very disconnected. For a sixteen-year-old writer this is really good and shows true talent. His writing will mature as he ages and can only get better. 3 stars. This novella is cleverly written, sexy and laugh out loud funny. Reading it made me hungry. Who knew tater tots could be sexy? I really enjoyed this a lot, it was so fun reading it, though Ms. Fenske spelled my name wrong. Just kidding. I have never done paddleboard yoga in my life. I would probably drown if I attempted such a thing. Since this is a novella, it ended quickly leaving me hungry for more TATER TOTS!!!! So cute. Loved it. 5 stars. (less)

The beginning of the book is really slow and confusing. There is a lot of world building and it is hard to understand what exactly is going on. There is no sign of the protagonist 13-year-old Jake till Chapter 4 which is confusing, Samantha is introduced in Chapter 5. The book starts out with Swyf and Joraus the changelings. Once I figured that out, I was doing a bit better with the narration but at first I was really confused. The pacing was really slow. Jake plays the flute and Samantha plays the saxophone. Music has magic in the magical kingdom of Fermicia. There is a good king Klyle and bad king Brael. I started liking this story better by Chapter 10. This must be the beginning of a series since this book ends with a cliffhanger. 3.5 stars.(less)

The writing is really good and so is the pacing to give that feeling of dread. 16-year-old Colette is going to Paris for a week with her class. She finds an old amulet in a box in her garage. And the ghost of Marie Antoinette shows up and cuts people's heads off. The ghost of Marie Antoinette is wearing the same medallion as Colette. Creepy! I thought this was pretty good. 4 stars. (less)

I loved it when she said that no, she doesn't read too much, there's no such thing as reading too much. I really liked the pacing of this story. It is reminiscent of Twilight. But what it really reminded me of was the 1984 Jeff Bridges movie Starman. I am really interested in continuing this series. Kat and Daemon are hot together and I want more. (less)

I like the title a lot. It makes me think of someone being eaten alive by bugs and being told bedtime stories while they are being eaten alive, though by definition, carrion beetles would be dining on dead flesh. I am immediately thinking, creepy, bizarre and darkly humororous. The words sick and twisted come to mind also. I already like it, even before I start reading the stories. All these stories are really short and they end with a quick scare. A lot of them are really funny. Some of them are creepy with a bigger buildup, others are more of a kind of Wham Bam! I enjoyed reading these short stories, since they are really short, I could easily read them between doing other things. I would set it aside then pick it up again and get back into them. 4 stars.
In A Good Game, Rocky wakes up without any knowledge of where he is or how he got there. Rocky is stuck in a gory game that he has no control over. This is a short, creepy little tale. It is very affective at immediately grabbing your attention and sticking with you.
You Don't Know Jack is a ghost story.
Carrying On is a really short dystopia.
Swollen Tick is about an emotional vampire who feeds on negative emotions.
Tomorrow's Headline is a really interesting read. I thought it was affectively written. Another really short story but an interesting premise about a person who switches bodies with a ordinary woman.
Solitary Man is about a writer in prison. This story ends very abruptly and strangely.
Wind, Winter, Wendigo was my least favorite story. This writing was all over the place and I was getting confused.
Cold Feet is about a couple of morticians and a tape worm. Reading this one grossed me out.
Transformations is about a couple digging up a body in a cemetary. This one was really weird.
Incident on Alkali Road is another one with writing all over the place so I was getting confused as to what exactly was going on at first and then it got strange and disturbing.
The Red Patch in the Snow is a psychological horror story. I thought the pacing and development of this story was really good. I liked this one, kind of made me think of Poe's Tell-Tale Heart.
The Restoration Room is about a pair of women during the Civil War. I thought this story was taking a while to get to the good stuff. And then it ends right when I thought it was getting interesting.
Hydrophobia is a creepy little ghost story. I thought this one was really good.
A Story About Monsters was a really clever one about good and bad monsters. I liked this one a lot too. It made me smile. The Artist and His Subject is the story about Cassie who is poor and sees an ad at the grocery store for an artist's subject. She goes to check it out and gets more than she bargained for. The artist is a fan of literature and this story is rather shocking.
There's No Word For It is about a man who unintentionally swallows insects to the point that the bugs intentionally fly down his throat. This is a really clever story. I liked it a lot too. It ends with a very funny one-liner that had me chuckling.
Bootlegs From Boston is about Clint who collects bootlegged recordings of concerts where something violent happened.
The Biggin Hill Duel is a steampunk story.
Waiting for Inspiration has a lot going on. Lots of horror archetypes as a writer struggles with writer's block. Very tongue and cheek.

I was enjoying it to a point. The characters are really interesting, the writing is good. There was a lot going on really fast without a whole lot of development so I was confused with some of it. 3 stars. (less)
