The Pantera are mythical puma-shifters living in the bayou. Their race is dying out because they haven't been able to have any children. That all changes when Raphael meets Ashe, an apparent human. Raphael goes into his mating heat and impregnates her, though that should be impossible. Ashe is suddenly the target of a mysterious group who is trying to kill her and her baby. She also needs an obstetrician, and so Parish abducts one for her. He and Dr. Julia Cabot fall for each other, even though they both have difficult pasts that should keep them apart. The mysterious threat to Ashe--and the Pantera--continues into Bayon & Jean-Baptiste.
This is a 2-part novella. As such, there isn't a whole lot of room for the development of the relationships between the two heroes and heroines. However, I enjoyed the novella for what it is.(less)
Marna was an Angel of Death whose wings were cut off in the final battle in Angel in Chains. She's not a Fallen angel, but without her wings she can't return to heaven. Now she feels she is nothing and has nothing.
Without her wings, the magic that blocked her from feeling human emotions is gone. Emotions are overwhelming her. And one of those emotions is vengeance.
Tanner Chance, New Orleans cop and panther shifter, was there for Marna when her back was sewed up. Even though she didn't want anything to do with him after that, his protective instincts and undeniable attraction to her consumed him. He watches over her.
Until the day he arrests her for murder.
Two of the shifters who participated in the attack on Marna are found dead, as if by the Touch of an Angel of Death. They are two of the shifters that Marna wanted dead, and witnesses place Marna at the scene.
Marna claims she didn't kill them, and angels can't lie.
A murderer is on the loose who is taking on the form of other people and implicating Tanner and Marna. And the killer wants Marna for his own. Soon Marna and Tanner are on the run, trying to unravel the mystery while staying one step ahead of the law.
And the killer.
I fell in love with Tanner in the very first scene. Who wouldn't love a hero who is gentle and comforting when needed, and yet deadly when protecting those he considers his? All his life he has protected the innocent and fought on the side of justice. He's a hero who can't see his own worth, but is worthy.
And he's hot! The sex scenes sizzle, thanks to Tanner.
Marna is a likable character. She seems innocent, and yet she's made of strong stuff. After all, she was an Angel of Death, whether she liked the job or not. Don't rile her. You might not like the results.
The plot is page-turning, with plenty of action, danger, tension, conflict, and suspense to keep things moving along. The mystery will keep you reading. You might think you have the mystery solved—but think again.
A character makes a tremendous sacrifice in Avenging Angel. I suspect we'll see more of that character in the future. I look forward to it.

When leopard shifter Eric Warden met Iona Duncan, he knew right away that she was a half-shifter trying to pass herself off as human. For Iona, as much as she was attracted to the sexy Las Vegas Shiftertown leader, she didn't want anything to do with him. To come out as a Shifter would ruin her happy human life and get her mother into trouble for keeping her secret. But Iona is in her mating frenzy and in danger of going feral if she doesn't give in to her true nature. Eric has to convince her to embrace her shifter side ... and become his mate.
Before Eric can convince Iona, they are threatened when the human government forces a Feline-hating Lupine clan leader on Shiftertown. Add to that a baffling illness that debilitates Eric, a secret building in the desert, and missing wolf-shifters, and you've got suspense, danger, action, and mystery. "And in the middle of all of this, a young, fertile female with the rising need to mate was running around loose and unprotected."
You'll love the characters of Eric and Iona. Iona is a smart woman who cleverly stands up to the Lupine leader. Eric sees her as a strong fighter and protector. More than that, she's the mate of his heart. Eric is everything a good alpha should be. He "had dominance down to an art form." "[Iona had] seen the seductive lover, the vicious fighter, the man suffering, and the protector." Oh, and did I mention that he's HOT? The scene in Iona's back hallway during the bachlorette party is ... something you don't want to miss.
Some characters grow throughout the book, and by the end you'll be anxious for books about them. I won't name names, as that would spoil things for you. It's no secret, though, that the next book is Tiger Magic, which is coming out in June 2013.

Kathleen McKnight was on a mission to take down a drug cartel in the Amazon rain forest. She was mortally wounded and the rest of her team was killed. Connor Anderson arrived on the scene, and so did a jaguar that she heard but didn't see. Connor saved saved her life and then disappeared back into the rain forest, along with his "pet" jaguar.
Connor Anderson and his sister Maya are born jaguar shifters, the only shifters aside from their estranged family that they know of. They regularly visit the Amazon rain forest to get back to their roots and to run in their jaguar coats. A year after saving "Kat," Connor still has not forgotten her. And Kat has not forgotten him.
Suffering from PTSD, Kat returns to the rain forest to try to find Connor, to thank him for saving her life. She gets hopelessly lost and is found by two jaguars--Connor and Maya in their jaguar forms. Connor rescues her in his human form, and can't believe that Kat has returned to him.
As a consequence of being the only jaguar-shifters that they know of, Connor and Maya have no prospects of finding mates. Maya recognizes the attraction between Connor and Kat, and takes a drastic measure to get them together.
"The more [Connor] knew about [Kat] and her past, the more mired in trouble they were all becoming."
Kat's past is following her, and they are all put in mortal danger. The race for their lives through the jungle, and additional complications are brought on by Maya's duplicity. Not all mysteries are tied up neatly in the end, probably leading into the next book. Jaguar Fever will be out in August, 2013.
Terry Spear fans, rejoice! She has done for jaguar-shifters what she did for wolf-shifters. She thoroughly researched jaguars and their habits and incorporated that research into accurately portraying her jaguar-shifters. Her Amazon rain forest is also richly described. You will feel the humidity against your skin, smell the lush vegetation, and hear the howler monkeys in the trees. She transports you to the predatory, magical, tropical world of jaguar-shifters.

Their parents were opposed to their mating and separated them. Years later Ary is a healer for her tribe, and Nick is an attorney and high-ranking shifter in Washington D.C. Then Ary gets kidnapped by Saber, who wants to use her to create designer drugs for the U.S. Nick rescues Ary and brings her to the U.S. to keep her safe, but the danger to Ary and to the Shadow Shifters is not over. And neither is the danger to their mating relationship.

After sleeping for four hundred years, Tasmin Singh awakens to find that he's the last of his kind. The last Rakshasa, a lion-shifting vampire. But he realizes that he's not alone in his body. There is a malevolence inside him that causes black-outs that have terrible consequences. He seeks out Lily MacGilliivray (Dark Awakening and series), the queen of the cat-shifting vampires of the Lilim, in order to find answers.
When he arrives at the Lilim stronghold, he encounters Lily's mortal best friend, Bay Harper. They discover a mutual attraction and passion that neither thought they'd ever feel. Bay's compassion helps to tame the darkness inside him, but Tasmin knows that ultimately the malignancy will overcome him. When a bloody war starts and their lives are on the line, will the darkness win?
Tasmin is a tortured, honorable, self-sacrificing hero. He starts out arrogant, but on his journey he learns about compassion, passion, and love from Bay. He's a hero you'll fall in love with, right along with Bay.
Bay is tenderhearted towards animals, friends, and those in need. Yet she also has a core of titanium. She's strong-willed and never gives up on anyone or any cause that she believes in. And that includes Tasmin. She finds the strength to do what is necessary, no matter how difficult it may be. She's a strong, admirable heroine you'll pull for.
Mystery, suspense, passion, and danger will keep you turning the pages. Lives are at stake, and a successful resolution seems impossible. There's a dark moment or two that might make you tear up. The book is a game-changer for the series.
Although Immortal Craving can be read as a standalone book, it's best enjoyed if you start at the beginning of the series. The characters and background will make more sense that way, and you'll have the pleasure of reading the series.

Gray is an Impure, a half human, half vampire. In Eternal Blood he discovered that the Order is blood castrating Impures so they can't reproduce. The Order is made up of ten ancient vampires who rule over Purebloods and Impures. Gray's mission, and his team's, is to bring down the Order, stop the blood castrations, and gain rights for the Impures.
Dillon is a mutore, a Pureblood vampire and shape-shifter. A beast. Because of a recent trauma, she is unable to transform out of her jaguar form. Except when Gray touches her. But she doesn't want to want Gray--or need him. And so she runs. And runs. From Gray and his cause. But she's in mortal danger, because the Order doesn't want to simply castrate the mutore of the world, it wants to eliminate them.
Destiny's a bee-otch, however, and she's decided that Gray and Dillon are true mates. But are they too diametrically opposed to find any common ground?
Although Eternal Beast seems to be named for Dillon, Gray Donohue is truly the lead of the story. He is a compelling hero who pursues his cause no matter what the cost to himself. That quality also has a negative side, however, because his cause and Dillon don't mix. But whoo-boy, let me tell you. Is he ever hot! And that quality mixes very well with Dillion!
Dillon is fighting her own demons, and doesn't want to share them with Gray. This results in tension and friction between the two. Can Dillon open up to Gray? Can Gray trust Dillon?
Eternal Beast is a dark tale about two stubborn lovers who are devoted to their own agendas. Compromise seems impossible. You'll be turning the pages to see how they could possibly work things out between them.
Although Eternal Beast can be read as a standalone book, I highly recommend that you read the series first, including Gray's eNovella Eternal Blood. Eternal Beast will make much more sense and you'll enjoy reading about the recurring characters.

During those ten years Katie Smith has been virtually living as a human because she can't shift into her cougar form. A virus that the evil Kurjan vampires developed and with which she was infected stole that ability from her. It did give her one advantage, though. She can sense and track deadly werewolves, male shifters who have been infected with the virus and have become killing machines. The only "cure" is to put them down. She has spent the intervening years working with a team doing just that. And living away from Jordan Pride.
The man she's always loved.
After all, what good is she to him? She's a shifter who can't shift. And, she believes that he still sees her as a child.
Jordan is the alpha of his cougar pride, and watched Katie grow up. He's wanted Katie since the day she became an adult. But any dream he might have entertained of being with her died the day he got infected with the virus. Unless a cure is miraculously developed, he'll turn into a werewolf at the next full moon and have to be killed.
Knowing that upheaval within the pride will follow his death, Jordan wants to escort Katie to safety before he turns into a werewolf. But enemies find them before the full moon in the form of a werewolf with a grudge, the virus, and unrest within the pride. The bittersweet relationship between the ill-fated pair complicates matters.
Even if they survive until the full moon, can Jordan beat the odds that are stacked against him?
She slowly took a step toward him. "You're better than any dream I've ever had."
His smile was slow. Sexy. Devastating. "You are every dream I've ever had."
Whoo-hoo! Katie and Jordan's story! I'd been waiting for their book since they were first introduced, and I'm so glad they finally … well, you'll see. Let's just say that Jordan was worth the wait.
Jordan didn't kiss. He consumed.
Jordan is a sexy, protective, honorable, powerful, alpha hero who does everything in his power to keep Katie safe. But Katie doesn't want to be "kept." She wants to fight for Jordan, and fight she does. She jumps in with both feet, whether it's in fighting werewolves or the virus. She's not about to lose Jordan now that she's finally got his attention.
The plot has many entwined story lines going on at once. Aside from Katie and Jordan's plot lines, there are story lines that continue to be carried along from book to book. Also, we get to catch up with old friends from previous books. The story of Janie, Zane, and Kalin continues. We get to see Zane as an adult, and he's hot! I'd say I can't wait for Janie and Zane's story, but that will probably be the end of the series so I should be careful what I wish for.
Jase and Kane's stories are set up. Next up is Kane's story, Provoked, coming out November 1, 2012.

A year later Jamie arrives at his mountain retreat to get an interview with him, and becomes snowed in with the animal inside Galen that he can't control. I liked Jamie and Galen, Galen was hot, and so was the story. Recommended for a quick, scorching read. You can't go wrong with Caridad Pineiro. (less)

The Grigori did not take kindly to deserters.
Ariane is a Grigori, a member of an ancient race of secretive vampires of which little is known by the other vampire dynasties. The Grigori are watchers of the world, never interfering. Ariane has spent her life secluded in the desert in the American southwest. Then her only friend, Sammael, goes missing. Ariane escapes her gilded cage in search of him.
Damien Tremaine is a vampire cat-shifter with the House of Shadows. He's a Shade--an assassin and a thief. He's been given the task of tracking down Sammael for the Grigori, and reporting to them if he also finds Ariane. He does find Ariane as they're both following the same lead, and opposites attract. He discovers he can't turn in Ariane. Instead, they end up working together. And doing more than just working. But their investigation leads them down a path that could destroy their growing attraction. And it leads them to the ultimate secret that the Grigori have been hiding.
"Why do you keep calling me [kitten]? I'm not your kitten. I'm not a pet or a small, fuzzy animal!"… "It seems to fit," he said. "Beautiful. Touchable. Very sharp claws."
Ariane is a soft-spoken, naïve, innocent heroine. But don't let that first impression fool you. She's also strapped with daggers and a sword and knows how to use them. She's fully trained as a Grigori warrior, and it comes in handy.
Damien Tremaine was the debauched "spare" in the "heir and a spare" when he was mortal. He hasn't changed much over the ensuing hundreds of years. He's smart-mouthed, and he's got some good lines.
He was charming, damn it! She was supposed to notice!
He's a thief and assassin who only lives for the next job. He's capable of lust, but he thinks he's incapable of love. However, Arian sees that he's also got a very vulnerable, honorable side underneath that flip attitude of his. She brings it out in him. That's the beauty of their relationship. You'll find yourself rooting for them, and maybe even crying at their darkest hour when all seems lost. I know I needed a Kleenex.
Their growing relationship will keep you turning the pages, but so will the mystery of Sammael. Why did he disappear? He holds a number of answers to secrets that threaten Ariane's world. Some of the answers may surprise you.
There is an excerpt from the next book, Immortal Craving, at the end of Shadow Rising.

As others have noted, Libby forgave Jaxon too easily for the way he treated her. And Libby made some decisions that were close to TSTL. Yet I was fully engrossed in the story and turning the pages as fast as I could. If you can overlook a few problems, it's actually a gut-wrenching book that's full of deadly danger. I liked it enough that I'm going to move on to the next book, His Darkest Embrace.(less)
