I love the graphical way that information is presented; it's so easy to read and find data. The little incidental stories about Grandma Putt make this a fun read, as well. This is probably the BEST gardening resource any gardener could have, whether they've never held a trowel or if they're a composting wizard.(less)

This comic is witty, adventurous, fun and excellently drawn and shaded. Both Delilah and Captain Selim are very enjoyable characters (Selim is great, he talks like I do). The historical Constantinople setting (sometime during the Ottoman reign, during the 17 or 1800’s?) is a pretty fresh one for a sword-swinging adventuress.
Tony Cliff is clearly that happy rarity, a skilled artist AND writer.

I first read it in 1994 when it was in it’s ACE Books mass market edition. It was on one of those revolving racks at the Linda Vista Library in San Diego. I later purchased my TOR trade paperback edition at Mysterious Galaxies in 2000-something and I’ve read it about three times. I’ll probably re-read it many times more.

Amulets is also thoughtfully illustrated, with captions for every photo and plate. There are over 70 black-and-white photographs and twenty color plates of groupings of amulets. There are also a couple of line drawings.

For one, it is it a much more accurate translation than the one traditionally used that was penned, with many errors, in the late 1800’s by Mercier Lewis.

I’ve read two books in this series and Throne of Jade is my favorite for it’s scenes on the open sea and in China. I’ll probably re-read this book in the near future.

It’s a great read and the characters are real people and fun to read about, especially Ruby’s high voltage sister Loralva (la-raul-vaw, only you have to think it with a Texas twang).

His writing style is engaging and his pacing well done, whether the work is fact of fictional. I discovered A Year in Provence at the North Clairemont Branch Library’s regular book sale. It was such an enjoyable read that I’ve started collecting all his books about life in the Lubéron, as well as his many fiction works. I’ve also bought this book and it’s sequel for my Mom.

I got it as an advance reader when I worked at a University bookstore in San Francisco and have re-read it several times since. Queen Jade has it all; lost treasure, family secrets, archeology, secret codes, a massive storm, jaguars, jungle travel, an old vendetta, mystery and romance. This book is thrilling, fast paced and full of very human and interesting characters. The plot is also believable.
