After someone slashes the tires of her car, heiress Piper Roseland decides the chain of unfortunate events that have been plaguing her are not unrelated events. In search of a body guard who will be discreet, she calls her Uncle Theo who sends her Alex Jensen. Although Alex presents himself as a bodyguard/private investigator for hire, that isn't who he really is. Alex is actually a secret agent with a organization run by Piper's Uncle. The agency's job is to gather intelligence for various government agencies such as the CIA. When Uncle Theo sends Piper to Alex he doesn't just do so because Piper needs protection. Uncle Theo has received Intel stating that someone in Piper's family or household is actually involved with a drug cartel from Mexico and Uncle Theo sees this as the perfect opportunity to get someone into the Roseland mansion without raising any suspicions.
From the beginning Piper is attracted to Alex, but she doesn't do serious relationships. Piper keeps all her relationships physical with her emotions locked away. Alex knows that getting involved with a woman like Piper is a bad idea, yet he can not resist her head strong personality and her desire to help others. As Alex works to keep Piper safe while at the same time uncovering who is working for the drug cartel, the two can not keep these emotions out of their relationship.
This is the first book that I have read by Judy Teel and I must say that I enjoyed it. The book was well-paced with great dialogue and a good plot. The conversations between the characters felt real and believable. Overall I liked both main characters, although I was a little partial to Alex. Piper had some great qualities like her desire to help others and her devotion to her family. Some of her actions annoyed me a bit and at times I wanted to slap her for a few of the stunts she pulled.
Alex was a great character throughout. He came off as strong and confident without being overbearing or sarcastic. He had all the best qualities of a true Alpha male while at the same time being able to recognize his feelings for Piper.
Overall, I enjoyed this story. The plot was well developed and the characters likeable. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance. And I plan on checking out other books by Ms. Teel. ...more
I picked up this book because it called to me on two levels, one it was a romance and two the hero was a United States Marine. From the very beginningI picked up this book because it called to me on two levels, one it was a romance and two the hero was a United States Marine. From the very beginning the story pulled me in and I often had trouble putting the story down as the author took us on Julianne Parker's journey as she finds not only herself but the love of her life all the while facing the brutalities of war.
Julianne Parker, a journalist from New York, travels to Vietnam during the war. At the very beginning Julianne is not taken serious by the Marine's she is with at Camp Dakota. Very quickly she sets out to prove to herself and the Marines that she can handle her role as a War journalist just as well if not better than a male reporter. Slowly she earns the respect of the men she is with and becomes a part of their Marine family.
Sgt Mack Roberts is very THE perfect Alpha Male. He is physically and mentally strong. A true man's man, but at the same time he has deep emotions and will do anyting for not only the woman he loves but the other men he is fighting with in Vietnam.
Unlike in many romance novels the hero and heronine do not instantly fall in love. As often happens in real life they start off as friends and then we see their relationship grow and change as we read about their time together in Julianne's journal. But the love story is not the only one the author presents to us through her novel. She also does a fabulous job of prsenting to us a very dark time in US history. She includes great detail regarding the military as well as the emotions that those men and women must have felt while fighting a war that was so controversial. I truly felt the emotions experienced by the characters.
In closing I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a well-developed story with well-developed characters. I hope this talented author publishes additional books in the future because if she does I will definately pick them up....more

While the band has made it in the rock world all is not well among the band members as jealousy, drugs and their pasts threaten to tear them apart. Living next door to Jessica and the band is legendary rocker Lex Coltrane, who is the combination of a young Adrian Paul and Jon Bon Jovi all wrapped up in one neat little package. Although Lex is about 10 years older than Jessica he is drawn to her the first time he sees her walking her dog along the beach. A strong believer in reincarnation, Lex believes that he and Jessica were lovers in a previous life and that she is his soul mate.
As Jessica and Lex explore the passion between them, Jessica's past and family try to pull them apart.
The title of this book immediately grabbed my attention and I was not disappointed at any point. The story drew me in and kept me interested throughout. I felt as if I got to know Jessica, Lex and her brother Jack on a personal level. I could clearly see them and feel the emotions that they were struggling with. The author did an excellent job of making the environment the characters lived in seem real. She didn't try to ignore the fact that many rock stars get hooked on drugs and alcohol. If she had ignored that component the story wouldn't have read as true. And while the author did incorporate the idea of reincarnation into the story, it did not over shadow the present day romance or the realistic struggles all the characters faced.
Overall opinion I really enjoyed this book. It was the perfect escape read for me. After all who wouldn't want a drop dead gorgeous rock and roll star absolutely and totally in love with you. Especially when the guy is a sweet and caring at Lex. I would recommend that anyone who enjoys a modern day fairy tale pick up a copy of this book. I don't think they will be disappointed. In fact I hope the author does a sequel to this book. I would love to see what happens to Jack. He deserves a happy ending too....more
