Why do I feel so… Underwhelmed? So, I read The Fault in Our Stars, and completely loved it. I really did. It was so awesome. And my friends (and GoodreWhy do I feel so… Underwhelmed? So, I read The Fault in Our Stars, and completely loved it. I really did. It was so awesome. And my friends (and Goodreads) told me that this was way better. This was THE BEST BOOK BY JOHN GREEN. Or something like that. And what did I think after I was done. Eh. I didn’t even feel anything when I was done. No sad, empty feeling which is kind of satisfied but so distraught that it had to come to an end. It did not leave me with that empty Oh-my-god-why-would-you-end-it-there-where-is-the-next-page-because-it-can’t-be-over, type of book. I can’t even really remember what happens in it. So here’s a summary. Summary Miles moves to a new school. He makes friends. He meets Alaska Young, who is crazy, beautiful, clever, messed up… And then stuff happens. Well, actually only one thing really happens. But that’s the big plot twist. So, no, not telling you. Cons My expectations were way too high for this book. I was expecting to have a whirlwind of emotions like a hormonal, pregnant woman. But no. I just didn’t care for any of the characters. Alaska was interesting, but she didn’t make me love her. She was far too crazy and eccentric for me to really connect to her, and see what Miles was seeing. And I really see how he was so in love with this girl, when he was making out with Lara, and doing all sorts of stuff with her (trying to keep this review PG right now). He seemed more like it was lust, than him actually being in love with her. He even asked Alaska for advice for how to do all this stuff with Lara, and both don’t really seem to care. And Alaska just treated him like something to play with when she got bored. She only seemed to care about him like a friend. And then, just when I thought the plot was picking up a bit more and we would see some more character development, the big twist happened, which doesn’t leave anymore room for her character development. I think it was because the book was too short. I feel like it would have been a lot better if it were twice as long. The Fault in Our Stars is pretty massive, compared to Looking For Alaska, which may be because this was John Green’s first book. And though it sounds like I’m being really mean about it, I’m really not. You’ll see. Pros Though the Cons were pretty annoying, let’s be honest. John Green is a pretty phenomenal writer. His writing style is so awesome. His dialogue is hilarious but so natural and flowing. All of his characters feel so real (no matter how much they annoy me), and all the tiny details he adds in his books just enhance the entire feeling. Everything feels so original, even though the premise of the book, minus the big twist, is pretty average (main character has no friends, moves school, makes awesome friends and meets amazingly beautiful and clever love interest.), but he makes it so interesting and plain awesome. I mean, Alaska really is an awesome character, even though she irritated me, though that’s because she was so fascinating. We really never got to find out what caused her to be so messed up, and with so many mood swings, but she was a great character. I would have liked to have known more about her so maybe then I would have been able to connect with her, but the book was short, as I’ve said before, so we never got to discover her. And his books are always bursting with awesome quotes. For example: Quotes: I wanted to be one of those people who have streaks to maintain, who scorch the ground with their intensity. But for now, at least I knew such people, and they needed me, just like comets need tails. And in my classes, I will talk most of the time, and you will listen most of the time. Because you may be smart, but I’ve been smart longer. If people were like rain, I was like drizzle and she was a hurricane. What the hell is instant? Nothing is instant. Instant rice takes five minutes, instant pudding an hour. I doubt that an instant of blinding pain feels particularly instantaneous. Overall Extremely torn over this one. Because it was a great book, but not that great, but it was John Green. Erm… I don’t know… Ok, let’s just go with 4 shuriken stars, because I feel like that’s a good-ish place for it to go. It was better than The Host, but not as good as The Hunger Games. And yes, I would recommend it, but only if you don’t care about a lot of swearing. And some scenes which would definitely not classify as PG. Or 12. Or even 15, if they want to show everything. http://discombobulatedbooks.wordpress......more
WARNING! CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE PREVIOUS BOOK!!! Since I wrote a book review for the first book in this series, I thought I should probably write oWARNING! CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE PREVIOUS BOOK!!! Since I wrote a book review for the first book in this series, I thought I should probably write one for this! To be blunt, I didn’t like this book… But on the bright side, it was better than the first book (Blood Ties). This book is also by Sophie Mckenzie (obviously, as it is the same series!) The plot was fast paced and kinda good… I just thought that it was too… what the word? er… when something just happens and it suddenly “fixes the situation”- oh! deus ex machina! (my awesome latin(!)) . Summary Basically… Theo and Rachel are still living hidden away and thousands of miles away from each other. Then. Suddenly. Rachel finds out that “Elijah is going to murder Daniel” (note. Daniel is the little version, clone, thing, of Elijah/ Theo) (You will understand the “” once you have read it!) And so Rachel goes on a near suicidal mission to try to “rescue” him. But her plan didn’t work, and she found out some evil secrets about Elijah and his current work. bte. Elijah IS PURE EVIL!!!! Cons Deus Ex Machina For those of you who don’t know what it means either look at wiki, or read my to be honest, quite bad explanation! Deus Ex Machina, literally means “God out of the machine” and in a book, it means that an seminally ”unsolvable” problem is suddenly solved, with the invention of a new twist/ new character/ event/ etc. I just felt that there were so many problems, and Sophie McKenzie just didn’t know how to solve those questions, so she just created a solution. I just thought that it happened too much… a problem was solved, a character was just there. I was curious what would have happened if that problem wasn’t solved. I guess though it moved the plot along more… but it was just too happy… Rachel I don’t usually put a character into the cons… but this is a con… (does that make sense? ). I thought that Rachel just changed too much between the two books and it was only a few months in between the books! Her personality just totally changed, she became “more of a girl” because she started doing more exercise… and I just thought that, that would mean that she is becoming more like her sister, which just defeated the whole point of the first book… The Links between the books IT JUST DIDN’T WORK… ;( IT REALLY REALLY ANNOYED ME… The last book ended on a quite good cliffhanger… (with Daniel still in Elijah’s hand) and this book… it just dismissed that ENTIRELY… it really really frustrated me… ;( and it made me sad… but I can’t say any more without ruining the book… Pros hm… I’m trying to think of positive things to say… The Plot? The plot was kinda good I guess? It’s just at some parts it gets a little predictable and boring… The concept Although the concept wasn’t that original or unique, it still was a good concept. It just goes to show that some scientists are really creepy and crazy and just don’t know when to stop… and they think that they are doing the “right” and “good” thing, even when it is morally wrong… And the things that happened in the book, THEY COULD ACTUALLY HAPPEN!, which makes it really creepy and messed up…- it’s not a good thing… Favourite Quotes To be honest, it book isn’t very quoteable (is that a word?), so I’m not going to put any down. It isn’t that the book is bad that I don’t want to put any down… it’s just that the book is quite an easy read, so there aren’t any funny or meaningful quotes Overall I wouldn’t say that this book is bad… but I wouldn’t say that it was awesome either… So probably in between? Lets say 3 Shuriken Stars?, because I actually did manage to get through it! http://discombobulatedbooks.wordpress......more
WARNING. CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM PREVIOUS BOOKS! OMG. OMG. OMG. It is AMAZING! It is one of the best books in the gone series! It is literally stunning!WARNING. CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM PREVIOUS BOOKS! OMG. OMG. OMG. It is AMAZING! It is one of the best books in the gone series! It is literally stunning! It is one of those few books that keep you hooked, so you can’t put it down. I also LOVE THE COVER!!!!!! IT IS SO COOL!!!!!! Right. back to the review! This book is the fifth (I think…) book in the gone series, by Michael Grant. The books before are called: Gone, Hunger, Lies, Plague and now Fear!!!- You can read about them in other reviews. To be completely honest, I would say that Plague is better than Fear. But I would also say that Fear is better than the other books in the series. Here’s how I personally would rank the series so far; Plague, Fear, Gone, Lies, Hunger. A Quick Summary THE FAYZ TURNS DARK. Literally. The barrier starts to darken and soon, it is completely pitch black in the FAYZ!!! (which is extremely dangerous for some people and makes some mutants unable to use their power (e.g. Brianna, in case she trips over, as she can’t see… and tripping over at about forty miles could hurt(!), Just a little! ). Drake is prowling around again! During the book, many exciting things happen! (I really don’t want to spoil anything…, but just to get you excited; Diana’s baby is born!!!!!!- it was such a creepy moment…) Cons The Speed note, for the purpose of this review, the speed and the pace are different things!, because I have pros and cons for it! . Back to the review! I just felt that it was a bit hurried, as the whole book happens just under a three day time span. And some parts I didn’t quite follow…, like the part with Edilio?, how did Sam figure that out?… The Spoilers Michael Grant released on his FB page For those of you who haven’t read the spoilers he released here they are: “1) Remember that it was originally titled DARKNESS. 2) At one point Sam will rub Diana’s tummy. 3) Astrid-haters will love her by the end. 4) There’s a surprising “coming out.” 5)… A heart will be broken. 6) You will learn why Sam and not Caine. 7) There is a huge betrayal. 8) Someone will lose their virginity. 9) Someone we know well will die. 10) A scene so dark and anguished my editors wanted me to tone it down. (Of course I didn’t. How long have you known me?)” The reason why this is in the Cons section is that I didn’t quite understand some of the spoilers, and how they fitted into the book; Of course, it could be just me… Anyway. I found number 2 quite misleading… It happens right at the beginning of the book, so I don’t think I’m spoiling anything much… but basically, Sam didn’t want to rub her tummy… he only did it because he didn’t want to be ride… Number 3. I don’t really understand why I’m supposed to love her… I am a Astrid- hater… but I don’t love her… but to be fair… I liked her a bit more than I used to…, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t hate her… (Does that make sense?) I didn’t quite understand number 5, as I was expecting something like Astrid falling in love with Caine, and Sam being hurt.. (lol… btw this didn’t happen), but there was nothing like that… so I’m not quite sure whose heart was broken… I didn’t quite get the betrayal spoiler… I can think of a few betrayals…, but not one that stands out… Number 8 was also quite misleading…, as it is some people, not someone… (which is a huge relief…, as it would mean someone would have to do something with Caine or Diana… -which is really really messed up…, it makes me shiver just thinking about it!). And last, but not least, Number 9. I think I know who that person is…, but I can’t be sure…, if it is who I think it is…, then I am confused…, because Lana said she wasn’t sure that she was dead…?, but it also could be someone else, who died at the very end…, but we didn’t know her that well… Light WHY CAN’T LIGHT COME OUT SOONER?… Pros The Pace It was AMAZING! It kept me hooked all through it! I was literally reading it in all of the lessons that I was able to get away with it in… and after I had finished it… It just left me speechless… The character development I just felt that all of the characters developed so much!, it was just amazing! Some characters completely turned around; For example Caine, it was so funny watching him break down, and I felt so sorry for him… ;(. And some characters have still got secrets to keep!!! That’s what I love about this series; ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! The “dark scene” It was amazing and heart- stopping. All through that scene I was going OMG, but not because it was ickey or disgusting, but because I predicted almost the exact thing!!!! (but with Petey)!!!!!!!!!!!! So all through it I was going OMG OMG OMG I WAS KINDA RIGHT!!!!!!! As you can tell,… I was really excited! Anyway, the “dark scene”; It was quite creepy, but not too much, it was just mentally disturbing. The reason why it is in the Pros section, even though it was mentally disturbing, is that I have never quite read a book like that, with such a mentally scarring scene! Fear When I make this point, I mean the emotion fear, not the book; I just didn’t want to provide the need for confusion… I love how Michael Grant goes into the concept of fear, and how he explores almost every aspect of it. (I’ll put in some quotes below for it!). I also love how the concept was named after the book, or is it the other way round?, oh well, I’ll just hope you know what I mean. The sticker This is quite a small point… But I found it really funny and really true. When I bought the book, there was a sticker that said “More thrilling than The Hunger Games”. So true. The different view points I mean this literally! We finally hear from the outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the first chapter! (btw, some people might regard this as a spoiler, but I’m not that sure it is one…, as it happens in the first chapter…) We meet Sam’s mum, Connie, and we see how she has adapted and we see her emotions and feelings towards Sam and Caine. We also learn why she kept Sam, but not Caine!- but to be honest… I didn’t like that part…, as there wasn’t much solid stuff… The Beginning and The End As I said before, in the first chapter,WE MEET CONNIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And from then on, you will get hooked. Now the end, this is hard… as I don’t want to spoil anything… hm…. I’ll just say this; IT IS ONE OF THE BEST ENDINGS I HAVE EVER READ! I NEVER SAW IT COMING (well, actually I kinda did…, as I am one of those annoying people who read the last page…- I really just can’t help myself!) AND NOW I CAN’T WAIT FOR LIGHT!!!! Favourite Quotes “It’s not the monsters who are so completely different that are scary, Sanjit reflected. It’s the ones who are too human. They carry with them the warning that what happened to them might happen to you, too.” “Because they assumed all fear must come from a thing or a place. An event. Cause and Effect. Like fear was part of an algebra equation. No, no, no, so not getting the point of fear. Because fear was about possibilities. Not things that happened. Things that might. Things that might… Threats that might be there. Murderers. Madmen. Monsters. Standing just a few inches from him, able to see him, but his eyes useless. The threats, they could laugh silently at him. They could hold their knives, guns, claws right in his face and he wouldn’t be able to see. The threat could be. Right. Here.” “You think you’re going to take Caine down with sleeping pills?” “Sleeping pills,” *** said and nodded with satisfaction. “Sleeping pills. And cement” “”At some points in the hours that followed he said “Astrid?” “Don’t you think you should have made sure of that about three times ago?”" “Can you check on our cat, Ariel? No one would answer that, because the cats had all been eaten.” “That can be my tag line. “That is one bad baby”" Overall To get straight to the point, I would say that this is a four shuriken star book. So, if you have read the Gone series, and haven’t read this book, READ IT NOW! And if you haven’t read the Gone series, but have somehow read this review…, with spoilers from the other books in…. :O READ THE SERIES NOW!!!!!!!!! http://discombobulatedbooks.wordpress......more
OMG. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!!! I AM SO SHOCKED. I AM NEVER GOING TO DRINK CARROT JUICE OR TAKE FREE SAMPLES EVER AGAIN. I CANNOT BELIEVE IT… and what’OMG. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!!! I AM SO SHOCKED. I AM NEVER GOING TO DRINK CARROT JUICE OR TAKE FREE SAMPLES EVER AGAIN. I CANNOT BELIEVE IT… and what’s worst… is that it could happen… - but I have a big imagination, so don’t worry! Anyway, back to writing the review… This book is by Kirsty McKay, and it is the first in a series called Undead. The next book is called Unfed and it’s going to come out in the August of this year… ;(. Undead ended on a really big cliffhanger… and I CAN’T WAIT FOR UNFED TO COME OUT…. As you can probably guess this book is about ZOMBIES!!! I love zombie books!!! They are AMAZING!!! Zombie books are so full of action, and although most zombie books have the same sorta plot, but they are all unique and AMAZING/ not amazing, in their own special ways! This book is one of those unique and AMAZING BOOKS!! It’s also one of those few books that almost have no genre; there was action, romance and LOTS of comedy (I know it sounds odd; laughing at a zombie plague…). It was fast paced and it literally had my heart racing (believe it or not, that is no exaggeration), and at the end of almost every chapter, there was some of cliff- hanger to keep me reading… It was really hard to put it down for one second… Seriously, THIS IS A MUST READ!!! A quick summary The main character is this new girl called Bobby, she has recently moved school and moved country and basically she is one of the “odd people” who don’t really fit in… Her mum “suggests” her to go on the school ski trip and EVERYONE TURNS INTO ZOMBIES!!!, well… not everyone… and this book is basically about them trying not to die!, happy thought! Cons er… This is one of the few books that I am actually struggling to come up with any cons… Pros Bobby She is AWESOME, I think she deserves her own little paragraph!! She isn’t like one of those girls who just screams and screams and screams when a zombie plague happens. She is an unbelievably strong character and her determination to survive is just incredible! I loved how she was the narrator; she was so funny… But at times I felt like screaming at her (in a good way) because she is thinking about Lego while she should be RUNNING FOR HER LIFE!! (The Quote is below) The other characters I feel bad… because these characters don’t have their own paragraph like Bobby… I guess that’s their own fault though! Smitty: He’s the typical bad boy in the school, or was… because their class, is kinda dead… He has this carefree nature about him, which I thought was truly amazing; he was always the first to volunteer to do all of the dangerous tasks; even though he could have DIED… Alice: She’s the type of girl in a school that spends hours putting on make up and believe it or not… that doesn’t change at all in a zombie plague… She was a funny character- as in laughing funny. She was always herself no matter what; that means mocking and teasing people at all the wrong times… Pete: He’s a geek. The writing style KIRSTY MCKAY is an AMAZING author!!! I will definitely be looking out for more of her books! There was a time in this book when I found that I could just read the speeches of the different characters and just know, without even looking, who was talking. That’s what I think is amazing; you know almost no information about the characters, yet you feel as if you have known them their whole lives. Yes, I know it sounds odd… but if you’ve read the book then you will understand… Probably… Maybe… or maybe it’s just me… I also love the humour. It was a good contrast to the series stuff about dying, and being eaten, or blown up, etc… Favourite Quotes “Maybe he’s got a nicotine crave on. That must really suck: being a zombie who can’t get a smoke” “Here’s Lego Zombie Chef! Here’s Lego Zombie builder! See their grasping hands and posable limbs! “I’m evil, but I don’t care” “Could you just go downstairs and lock up the headless body first, please? It’s reasonable request.”
Overall This book is AMAZING!!! (have I mentioned that before?). For all of you zombie fans out there YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!!! and for all of you non-zombie fans out there either READ THIS BOOK or in the nicest possible way go drink some carrot juice or go to a cafe and make a carrot man attack you. Easily 5 shuriken stars! JUST GO TO THE NEAREST BOOKSHOP/ LIBRARY/ ANYWHERE AND GET A COPY OF THIS BOOK!!! http://discombobulatedbooks.wordpress......more
PROBABLY CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE PREVIOUS BOOK!!! I read this book a while ago… So I’m sorry if there are any mistakes… This is the second book in tPROBABLY CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THE PREVIOUS BOOK!!! I read this book a while ago… So I’m sorry if there are any mistakes… This is the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy, by Suzanne Collins. The first one is called The Hunger Games, and is about Katniss and Peeta trying to survive the hunger games. The third one is called Mockingjay, which, in my opinion isn’t a very good book. Overall, throughout the series, I would say that the books get progressively worse… Imagine a ship! Imagine the ship at the start going to it’s destination (that’s the level that the first book is at). Then imagine it crashing into whale (that’s the level that the second book is at). Finally, imagine it sinking (that’s the level that the last book is at…) Sorry to be all pessimistic, but I thought that you should be warned!!! Cons It was too much like the first book… As I said above…<—I can’t be bothered to type it all out…. I just thought that at times, I was reading the same book twice… And now, after about a year, I get confused between the two. I mean literally, in the movie I got really annoyed at them missing a bit. Then when I got outside and started ranting about it…, my friend told me it happened in the second book… +_+ What Katniss and Peeta end up doing… Now that I have typed it out… I realise that it sounds really wrong… I didn’t mean it in that way I swear! But I can’t say anything without spoiling the book… I just thought that what they did, wasn’t necessaries… and just wrong… They are only teenagers….!!! The romance I strongly dislike how Suzanne Collins wrote the romance stuff… Because it wasn’t even romantic… It was just like “Peeta! They don’t think we love each other [well... duh... Katniss doesn't...]. Lets make out in front of them. That will convince them!” No. Just no. There were way too many scenes like that… And Peeta is such an idiot…, I mean, I guess I feel sorry for him, because Katniss is an idiot… but he was just too much over the top… And he didn’t respect all of Katniss’ ideas. The old characters Katniss: SHE MADE ME WANT TO TEAR UP THE BOOK!!!!!! She was just so ungrateful… she just completely dismissed Gale and Peeta, when they are both in love with her… And then she goes off moaning about how everybody hates her and how she has no friends… and generally feeling sorry for herself… The reason why she is like that is because of HER OWN STUPID FAULT Peeta: He was just over the top. I didn’t like it. I don’t like him. Even in the first book. He was just so weak… He did whatever Katniss told him to do… I don’t like him Gale: I’m actually quite surprised that I decided to put him in the cons section… but anyway… here he is… in the cons section… I guess it is that he wouldn’t man up and believe Katniss when she said that she was pretending… I just hate how he got all jealous over Peeta, and didn’t respect the fact that he was the reason why Katniss got out of the Hunger Games alive… But even so, Gale is so much cooler than Peeta; but that is probably because we see so much more of Peeta in the books, so I have more faults to pick out about him… Pros I love the new characters I love all the new characters who are introduced!!! Such as Finnik and Annie!!! Or Johanna- who is so cool!!!!!! And I also love Mags!!!! The action I love the action… but it did frustrate me that it only happened in the second half of the book… But even though it was a slow start to the book, the action does get better…., and once it finally got there, it was pretty good! The cover? I’m kinda running out of positive things to say… So lets talk about the cover!!! It’s not the worst cover I’ve seen… But is definitely isn’t the worst either! I like how it has the “tick tock” thing under the mockingjay pin! And I love the colour of the cover; it is like FIRE <– just like the title, if you didn’t quite get it! Favourite quotes! “So it’s you and a syringe against the Capitol? See, this is why no one lets you make the plans” “I always channel my emotions into my work. That way, I don’t hurt anyone but myself” “At some point, you have to stop running and turn around and face whoever wants you dead. The hard thing is finding the courage to do it.” “I guess this is a bad time to mention I hung a dummy and painted Seneca Crane’s name on it…” “That if desperate times call for desperate measures, then I’m free to act as desperately as I wish.” Overall Hm… This book is very tricky… I want to give it a four shuriken stars… but… that would be saying that it is as good as the other 4 shuriken stars… So maybe I’ll go just one below; how about three and a half shuriken stars…, but that seems very harsh… but oh well… Three and a half shuriken stars it is! Although I have written a lot of cons… I would still recommend you to read this book, if you have read the first one!, but just a word of warning. You may be disappointed…! http://discombobulatedbooks.wordpress......more
I love the plot. I love (most of) the characters. I love the author. I love the book. It is one of the best series I have ever read! It is just AMAZINI love the plot. I love (most of) the characters. I love the author. I love the book. It is one of the best series I have ever read! It is just AMAZING! …<— trying to calm myself, as I am hyperventilating just thinking about it! (so, I may ramble a lot in this review… ). *Taking a deep breath* This book is the first in a trilogy, by James Dashner, called the Maze Runner trilogy (such imagination(!)). The books that follow it are the Scorch Trials and the Death Cure, which are equally as good, apart from the ending of the Death Cure, as it just leaves too many unanswered questions.. URG… I HATE THE ENDING… sorry… rambling again…. This trilogy also has a prequel, called the Kill Order, but that isn’t out yet…, unfortunately … Summary! The main character of the book is this guy called Thomas, and kinda also this girl. The book starts with Thomas going up the shaft, into the maze, and being surrounded by kids around his age. Also, all he can remember is his name, nothing, not anything else… (how creepy would that be?, if I were him, at that point, I would have teared my head apart…). Then the plot THICKENS! The next day a girl is sent up, who is the first girl to have EVER arrived in the Glade (aka the maze)!!! dum dum dum! The plot is basically about them trying to get out of the maze! Cons How James Dashner writes off so many characters… He killed so many of my favourite character… At the end of the book, I was emotionally traumatized… and I was so close to tears… ;( I just hate how, with some characters, he doesn’t give them the proper noble death and funeral they deserve… It was just like “Bang. You’re dead. Bye!” I just wish that James Dashner had made their deaths longer, so it would give the characters a proper closure that they deserved… I guess that’s the only con I have! Pros!!! The plot IT IS AMAZING!!! And that is about the only thing that I can say without giving away too much of the plot! The twists! I DID NOT SEE THEM COMING! The plot was just so fast paced, and the twists came one after another, it was just breath taking and then it left me speechless. The Ending I can’t say much, apart from it was an amazing ending! It was left on an amazing cliffhanger. I really shouldn’t say any more. The Characters I just felt that I connected with them immediately. Especially Minho. He is so cool! I found myself in their situation, and I couldn’t help feeling sad, when they felt sad, and happy when they were happy! I know. It sounds really cliché… but IT’S TRUE!!! The front cover I know, this is a minor point, and that “you should never judge a book by its cover”… But the cover of this book looks awesome!!! And it is exactly how I imagined it!!!!!!!! Favourite Quotes “You’re the shuckiest shuck-faced shuck there ever was” “shouldn’t someone give a pep talk or something?” Minho asked, pulling Thomas’s attention away from Alby. “Go ahead” Newt replied. Minho nodded and faced the crowd. “Be careful,” he said dryly. “Don’t die.” *I LOVE THIS QUOTE!!! “You’re disgusting when you eat,” Chuck said, sitting on the bench next to him. “It’s like watching a starving pig eat his own klunk.” “I’ve been shucked and gone to heaven.” Overall Overall, this book is amazing! It is definitely a must read! Easily 5 shuriken stars!!!...more
Because this is a short story this is going to be a short review! (I feel like such a rebel, starting a sentence with because! ). This book is the shoBecause this is a short story this is going to be a short review! (I feel like such a rebel, starting a sentence with because! ). This book is the short story prequel to the chaos walking series, by Patrick Ness (which if you haven’t read my review for those books THEY ARE AMAZING!!!! THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!!) IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THOSE BOOKS READ THEM NOW!!! STOP READING THIS REVIEW AND GET YOUR HANDS ON THE SERIES!!! OK. My rant is over! Actually… maybe not quite… I will probably ramble a bit over this review! To be completely honest, I’m really not sure how I’m going to write this review… so again, I’ll probably ramble… I think I’m rambling now… Anyway, as I said, this book is the prequel to the Knife of Never Letting Go and that series, it is a really short story, and I think, it can be found on Patrick Ness’ website!- I’ll put in a link at the end of this review! I personally would recommend you to read this book after reading the Knife of Never Letting Go, as after you have read that book, you kinda get a bond with the characters, so the book just seems so much better, and so much more heart- wrenching… Summary This short story is about Viola, in the scout ship and the settler ship… It basically tells her story from her departure from the settler ship to when she crashlands! (This is probably why you need to read the Knife of Never Letting Go first, otherwise you will have no idea who these people are…). It focuses on her and her parents and also a little on her settler life; including Bradley!!! (HE IS AWESOME!!!). And as you know… the scout ship crashes… so her parents die and it is just so sad!!!, because of the way Viola treated them, just before they died… But anyway, I’ll let you find the rest out for yourselves! Favourite Quotes! “‘Fire,’ he said. ‘The ability to make fire at will. It allowed us light to see in the darkness, warmth against the cold, a tool to cook our food.’ He gestured vaguely in the direction of the Delta’s engines. ‘Fire is what eventually led to travel across the black beyond, the ability to start a new life on a New World.’” “Hope. That’s all anyone ever talked about on the convoy, especially as we got closer. Hope, hope, hope.” “‘I’ll take it,’ I say. ‘I’ll take your hope. I’ve got it, okay? Mum?’ But I don’t know if she hears me- Because her hand isn’t gripping back any more.” “Start it to give a light against the darkness” “And so I sit in front of Bradley’s fire, on the surface of a dark, dark planet, and I have their hope, if not any of mine.Except the hope that it’ll be enough.” Overall What can I say? Only to read this book and this series; because IT IS AMAZING!!! YOU WON’T REGRET IT!!! AMAZING!!! If you still need to ask; 5 shuriken stars! I would however, recommend you to read this short story after you have read the Knife of Never Letting Go, as it may not make too much sense otherwise… but it doesn’t matter too much whether you read this book after or before the other books in the series! You just need to read this book sometime in your life; or YOUR LIFE WILL NEVER BE COMPLETE! The New World: PDF file: http://www.booktrust.org.uk/usr/libra...
