I love how you get to see his past and how he became a vampire and who turned him into one. The flashbacks were probably the best parts of the book because you get to see his life as a human and why he acts how he does now. Finding out more about his sister Charity and how he was the one that turned her into a vampire was quite a moment considering that he had to chose between his little sister and the love of his life. Balthazar loved Bianca because she reminded him of his very first love: Jane And how Bianca would never love him the way he loved her and how awkward it was when Skye said "You two used to date before, I forgot" When Bianca chose Lucas over Balthazar in the evernight series I was shattered but when I found out Claudia Gray was going to make a book about him I was so excited I could not wait for it! Balthazar having a rule for himself 'no humans' was really something and it was really sad to see that he could not love Skye and tried to stay away from her because of that.......... But I'm glad in the end they finally got together
I found moments in the book quite funny One of them was when Lucas called Balthazar to check in on how Skye was doing and Lucas told Balthazar that their was jo denying Balthazars love for her and Balthazar denied any signs of love towards her and Lucas said he better watch out otherwise his girlfriend (Bianca) would get jealous. Another one was when the were at the school dance and Balthazar was pretending to chaperone whilst he was watching the students dance and he said to himself how dancing these days is so different because now dancing is considered a weird twitching. Another one is where Clem and Skye are texting each other about 'Balty' and how he was behind Skye Balthazar being a teacher, I would have preferred it if he were a student so that during school times he could always be with Skye, but being a teacher who texts to his student in his class..... Totally cute
There is so much more about the book that I would love to talk about........... But I am definitely a huge an of Balthazar and any of you out there that are like me (Team Balty) I recommend this book!

I thought this would be a simple cute book about a girl who finds a spell books and casts these 'spells' which come true and her life starts getting better. I was way off.......... This book has so much meaning and depth in it that at times I could not keep up. Listen Taylor's dad has a girlfriend who is part of the Zing family and that certain family has meeting every Friday night to discuss about it. Listen has always wanted to know what that secret was. Listen usually guessed what the secret was, she came up with that the secret was to have a happy family who all cared and loved for one another.
When Listen found the spell book and she stuck to all the instructions/rules that you had to follow, I would have never thought that she would follow them, it is very tempting to look through all the other spells. When Listen did the spells and they started coming true and she didn't even know it, I started to understand why there were certain spells, like the spell to make someone get stung by a bee, I had no idea what it could have done. When I found out that the spell book was created by the grandma of the Zing family, I was shocked and when it explained how she lived her life when she was younger and how each spell represents a situation that she was in it all started to make sense to me.
It was cute how when Fancy was young she told her boyfriend about the secret to show that he would have to be hers forever, but it was also very reckless of her to do that as well. Poor Marbie, I felt bad when Nathaniel left her, I am still confused, why would she go out with this tennis player guy if she loved someone else. I don't know why or how Fancy's husband loved the family secret more than her, because if he loved her before he found out wouldn't he still love her after? And the character I feel most sorry for is Cathy She had it toughest, out of every character. I was really hoping that her and Warren would get back together, but apparently not. Listen Taylor, how could her friends do that to her? That was just too sad, I didn't think friends could do that to you. She should have told her dad from the start about her friends so that she wouldn't have to go through so much trouble.
I had no idea that Cathy and the Zings were related at all. And didn't think that there family secret would be protecting one of their daughters
This book for me did not have a happy ending, and I love happy endings so I was quite sad But nonetheless it was a great book to read, and it is definitely something that gives you something to think about.
A spell to make somebody eat a piece of chocolate cake
A spell to make a person get stung by a bee
A spell to make two people fall in love again
Who would have known what these spells really do..............(less)

The storyline really draws the reader in not wanting to put the book down. I remember reading this book a few years ago and I read it all in one night
The story is about an orphan girl who gets adopted by these siblings (one boy and one girl) and it turns out that they wanted a boy. Anne the orphaned girl was going to be sent back to the orphanage to be replaced by a boy, but what they didn't know was how this girl could change their lives forever.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone of any age, it is such a heart warming story and something you can't miss.(less)
