The action in this one feels a little oddly compressed - everything takes place in a matter of a few days except for the very end and some flashback chapters - but that also leads to feeling almost giddily dragged along trying to make sense of what is happening along with the characters. (Which I rather like in a book of this kind.) (less)

However, it gets three stars because while I liked a lot of the plot set pieces, the character development feels really spotty and rushed in a few places. I had trouble getting a good feel for several minor characters, and there's a few inconsistencies within the narration that don't fit (and can't quite be explained by the narrator being unreliable, at least not without a little more set-up for the reader.)
Still good fun, though, and I intend to go looking for others in the series from my library. (less)
