He sees through cliches and reflects truth instead. He has healed parts of me not once but twice. 'Forever yours', sounds romantic no? Not at all. It is about a stalker who harrasses not one but two women. His madness, his narcissitic personality disorder nearly but not quite tipping them over their own edge. While reading this you feel their fear and their rage. And finally their peace. ...more

I'm starting my day with this. And I'm very impressed :-) !
It is a young adult book. Which is just what I am ;-) so that works perfectly.
I'm reading it because my niece is, so we can chat about it. But I keep forgetting that as it pulls me in :-) .
It is a book about what it is like to be a young adult. How friends you love and trust turn their backs on you and how the only way to find your way back to true friendship is to find, not them, but you.
A book about:
Losing friends, loneliness, bullies, wanting to fit in, jealousy, guilt, love ... forgiveness and standing up for yourself. Self love.
A book that really mirrors what it is like to be this age and will offer comfort and 'advice'.
I love it! If you know some age 10 - 16 (or 44) this is a perfect gift.

Vainly adoring ourselves as we kiss the camera we lose sight of others, we lose sight of the earth! Our selfie society scares me.
Where are we heading?
Vainly adoring ourselves as we kiss the camera we lose sight of others, we lose sight of the earth!
As a tourist you see this even more clearly. As I stood at sights of amazing beauty in nature or building centuries old I had to make my way past so many people taking selfies. Most of them with cameras held high and facing downward. So not only are we not taking photos of just the sight but we include our own faces to such a degree that you can't even see the sight at all!!!
Then I came across 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' by O. Wilde ;-) ..... and in many ways it is dealing with the same theme .... his life lived through the ultimate selfie .... and it does not end well....more
So months and months ago my fb / trust book lover friend Leilah told me about a really good book. But "she eatHer. Hysterical.
lol that was hysterical.
So months and months ago my fb / trust book lover friend Leilah told me about a really good book. But "she eats her husband".
I can't read books like that, like Perfume by PS. they make me ill.
But I read a sample of HER and really liked the style and it kept calling to me.
(Now .... see this is only in Cathrine's head. Leilah did tell her about HER and obviously she did also tell her about ANOTHER book in which a woman eats her DH. Cause that does not happen in HER. Is that a spoiler ;-) ?!).
So I read all of HER in a state of ... unease ... just waiting for it ... here it comes .... ok now ... in this section it will sure come. She is going to end the book with that?" And then: The End.
lol what a weird weird experience ;-) .
Unless reading that DH eating was so traumatic for me that I blocked it out ... have been in bed for 3 days w fever ;-) !
I did love the style of Her though ;-)so thank you Leilah :-) ! ...more

They are born in the air, Must learn to fly before falling and die also in their flying. Maybe you have been born into such a life With the bottom dropping out.

We never Asked for Wings by Vanessa Diffenbaugh starts with this passage. Beautiful!
You know a book is good .. you know a book is true to life and real .... you know a book is important when you clear room in your schedule, in your life for it. I have not had a lot of reading time lately. Life has in and of itself been full, like it is most Mays ... life blossoms then. But here comes this "life within covers" into my hands and I start it and I realize .... I need to make room for this, it is an event.
I am a reader who - except for the rare favorite author or life changing books - only remembers details from the last 5 or so books read. And yet the characters in this here author's first book The Language of Flowers have stuck w me. And when someone mentions the characters or the book details flow into my consciousness. There she is in the flower shop ... there is that line about ... forgiveness ... about motherhood ... .
So when I heard she had a new book out soon I of course sighed with a big inner smile.
She has not let us down. The last time she spoke to us about life through flowers. This time she does the same through birds and wings.
It is difficult to write a review without posting spoilers. I will try to do so here ....this book is a book about ......
Home: where is home, what is home, who is home. (Motherhood and nationality too). Belonging to places and to people ..... belonging to yourself.
Love and friendship: all the different kinds and the deep value of each and all of them! Character development is beautifully done. You will not forget these characters … and you fall in love with all of them. You can see yourself in them …. Recognize your own traits there. Good and bad. She does not judge and nor will you.
It is a book about: Mistakes and growing from them and then making life choices.
It is a book about daring to first grow wings .... and then Learning to fly. Developing and living.
It is a book about our intentions and the consequences. And flying with the consequences.
It is a book that will make you wish you could fly away somewhere so you can finish it all in one go :-) ...... I am excited for readers who have it in their TBR pile :-) enjoy !
She taught us so much through flowers. Now she does so through wings. Look for the kisses within the book: mentions of or references to wings …. And there are so really fun factual details as well :-) …. This is a 5 star … or 5 winged book ;-) …..
