I was quite excited to read a whole novel with his POV. But I got slightly dissapointed. With Dex there's always a lot of sex thoughts. It makes him what he is. But in this book the sex was too much for me. It was bordering the imaginary "male thinking". The problem was that he was doing it all the time, no matter what the actual situation is. I guess it could be quite realistic, you can actually have a sexual thought even in the direst of crisis. Yet, as a reader I do not care to read this actual piece of Dex-terity right at that moment. It spoils the mood for me a bit. For example we don't get all the pure physical needs all the time, they are realistic, they do occur, all the time, yet since they do not help the story we are blessedly spared from them.
And the last is true for the sex scenes in the book. Just too many of them. Not that they were not great, but sometimes less is better. I love the tension between Dex and Perry, some "pressure valve" hot scene actually helps, but when they are too often and has no connection with the plot or the emotion curve we get simply another book genre. I rarely complain about sex in books, but I really love these series, so I do not wish them to become some watered down version of their original theme.
I loved the NOLA description. It was really great for EIT team to be able to have a real live background setting. With all the different neighbourhoods and bars and everything.
The mystery part was ok, yet I wanted a bit more of a surprise. And the same goes for the horror parts. But I guess it is a bit subjective. For me the ghost parts were the scariest and most vivid. I guess that's my thing. However I appreciate the diversity of different horror themes in the series, I guess there is something scary for everyone.
I do hope the pink romatic mood with Dex and Perry gets a bit shaken in the next book. I love all the tension and drama with those two nutcases. And I hope we get to read a bit of Perry POV for some of the scenes from this book.(less)
