This is the perfect contemporary and the perfect road trip book! This was my first Morgan Matson book, but certainly not my last! I have since read all of Moran's other books and adored them all! This one, though, still remains as my favorite! It's fun, with a romance to root for, an amazing road trip, and it even has more serious aspects, but all in all it's a great summer read that will leave you with a good feeling when you finish it! I highly recommend this book and anything else by Morgan Matson!(less)

She's an immortal creature that has always protected the royal family of Samorna. She's powerful and can shift into any form. For the past 20 years she has been living in the Mistwood (forest) and now the Prince, fearing danger, has come to "recruit" her as his bodyguard. But there's a problem, Isabel doesn't remember being a Shifter and she doesn't remember how to shift...
This is how I feel about this book. I don't hate it, but I didn't particularly enjoy it.
The major reason as to why I didn't enjoy this book was the characters. All the characters felt flat to me and I felt completely disconnected from them. In fact, our main character, Isabel, was often described as "emotionless" which made it hard to actually care about her. The flatness of the characters made me feel as if the book was dragging on and on, making me bored.
I liked the premise of the book--that's why I picked it up-- but the book failed to reach the expectations. Example: The original synopsis goes on about Isabel's abilities but in the book, she has few of those abilities.
What I actually did like was how everything came together in the end. I was not expecting that twist and loved how everything came together.
IN CONCLUSION It could have been a good book, but it failed to reach my expectations I didn't enjoy this book and don't really recommend it.
I probably won't read the sequel (if you can call it that. From what I've heard, it's not really connected to this book)(less)

They were what I couldn't like about this book. This book was mainly focused on jealousy, and a jealous character is an annoying character...
Nash:HE. IS. A. JERK. This is the realization that I had when reading My Soul to Keep. I don't need to explain this any further, he is a jerk and that's it.
Sabine: She's a bench (that's a substitute for a bad word, folks). I know that she has had a terrible life, but she actually so benchy that I COULD NOT PITY HER AT ALL!!! Her and Nash are a perfect match!!
Kaylee: She's the one that annoyed me the most. Odd right? You would think that the jerk and the bench would be the most annoying, but that wasn't the case. What annoyed me about Kaylee was how blind and selfish she was. She was blind about how Nash was a jerk, and selfish because of her jealousy. She was jealous of Sabine for hanging out with Nash and Kaylee didn't want Sabine to have him! At one point, Tod told Kaylee that she should give Nash up. Her thoughts?"BUT I NEED HIM!!!" NO, KAYLEE, YOU DO NOT NEED HIM!! I probably spent most of this book mentally yelling at Kaylee! She really needed to see that Nash is a jerk!!!
Emma: She didn't have much of an appearance in this book, sadly, but there is something about her that I need to mention! I absolutely hate how Kaylee leaves Emma in ignorance. Leaving Emma in the dark is apparently Kaylee's way of keeping Emma safe and uninvolved. But Emma is already involved and not telling her is putting her in more danger!I actually felt sorry for Emma in this book. She has no idea what the hell is going on!!!!
Tod: The only incredibly awesome character in this book. Kaylee should listen to his advice!
Okay, so I obviously was not a huge fan of this book, but jealously played a major part in this book, and that made the characters unlikable (expect Tod, he was unaffected). But this jealously should be over with in the next book, making the book much more bearable. My hopes for If I Die: Kaylee will see reason and break up with Nash!
