MY THOUGHTS Let's get one thing straight: I did not like this book. Yes, I gave it a high rating, but to tell you the truth, this is not a book that you can like. A book I like would not screw up my mind, confuse the hell out of me, and leave me crying in a QuickTrip parking lot. Point being: This is not an enjoyable read. For the most part, this book is slow and a bit dull. I was curious all throughout the book, since I've heard so many thing about THAT ENDING and there was an aura of mystery, but not a whole lot happens.
But the writing in this book is beautiful. Some people hate the choppy style of writing (an example is shown in the synopsis), but I think it works brilliantly with the story, as our main character isn't exactly all there.
The turning point for me, though, was the ending. I cannot tell you the ending, it's much better if you go into this book without knowing anything, but the ending screwed me up. I was not expecting that ending, even though I look back and see that there are so many clues to it in the book! But it's not something that you would easily guess! The ending destroyed me, but it was beautiful, tragically so, but it was still beautiful.
IN CONCLUSION I originally picked up this book because I heard so many things about the ending. In fact, I picked up this book just because of my curiosity. The ending screwed me up, yes, but I still believe this book to be unique and beautiful. I do think that people should pick up this book just to read the end, but I know that the ending will not have the same affect to others. You will either love this book thanks to the ending or completely hate it. It's all up to you. (less)

This is one of the few books that I have ever read that have really affected me. I was completely unaware of the events of this book and, yeah, this book is fiction, but it is based on true events, people were in very similar situations to Lina and her family.
All in all, this is not a very enjoyable book as this book focuses on very hard topics, but it is an extremely powerful, beautiful, and emotional read that is guaranteed to change you. I highly recommend it!(less)

MY THOUGHTS I, honestly, had no idea what to expect from this book. I knew that it was about a road trip, but that's it. I was in the mood for a summer read and this looked like the perfect summer read! This was not what I was expecting. I was expecting a fun road trip book and I got this. This beautiful, unique monster that made me laugh but cry in the span of only a few hours. This book was much more than a road trip.
Reading this book, is like reading five short stories. This book is separated into five different parts: Hudson, Bree, Elliot, Sonia, and Leila. Hudson, Bree, Elliot, and Sonia are each going through their own problems. Each of them have never met each other and never do. But Leila meets every single one of them and changes each of their lives. You see, that's how this book feels like a collection of short stories. Each story is an adventure that Leila has with that particular character. Now, Leila... I'll get to her later. But I loved the unique way that this book's story was told. And I loved all of the characters. Yes, they had their flaws, but that's part of the reason way I loved them. The characters were REAL. They weren't perfect and they were facing problems that many people face.
This did not feel like a serious book for the most part. The adventures that all of the characters have with Leila are oftentimes fun, ridiculous, and absolutely hilarious. Sure, the characters change after the adventure and while that gets more serious, the adventures in the book are more of the fun variety.
Now that I talked about the first four characters, I can talk about Leila. Leila is probably my favorite character, but it's really hard to talk about her without spoiling things. I loved what she did for these complete strangers that she meets on her road trip to the Northern Lights. These strangers don't want to face their problems or change, but Leila won't take that and helps them out in these crazy adventures and I just love her for that. Throughout the book you will become curious about Leila. You will notice that she never gives any information about herself and when she does, it will change in every part. So, by the end, you will really want to hear Leila's story and I have to start talking here...
IN CONCLUSION This is a uniquely told story. I loved the separate little adventures and all of the characters that went with them. This book will make you laugh. Not only are the characters funny, but the situations they get into are hilarious. But this book will also break your heart. I definitely recommend this book!(less)

MY THOUGHTS I went into this book with no clue as to what it was about. I had the vague idea that it was dystopian and had something to do with videogames, but that was it. And yes, both of those were involved, but there was so much more to it!
This was a very unique book and yes, it had some videogame inspiration, but the idea is new and very interesting. The I'm sorry if I'm being vague, but it's much more exciting to go into this book knowing as little as possible (Though, you can always read the synopsis if you want to see how original of an idea this book has). The world-building involved in creating The Aftermath and the dystopian society is amazing! So much is involved in the creation of this world and you do actually feel like you are within it!
I, honestly, don't have very many issues with this book. Some of the characters felt a bit flat, but that's understandable due to the situation and many of the characters grew rounder as the story went on. There were some things I had a hard time believing, (view spoiler)[Like the fact that Claudia took until now to figure out that she was being controlled by someone else. It was mentioned that she was already somewhat aware, so why didn't she realize this? (hide spoiler)] but they were easy to ignore.
IN CONCLUSION A fast-paced, suspenseful dystopian with a very unique plot! While this book has some video game inspiration, you don't have to be a gamer to enjoy it! I'm not a gamer, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I do recommend it to those who want to read a brand-new take on dystopians! And I will definitely be reading the sequel! Especially after that ending!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)

MY THOUGHTS I feel so awkward. The average rating for this book on Goodreads is 3.27. Almost every review I see for this book is a negative review. But I absolutely loved this book. When I was reading this book, I was very confused by this. I kept seeing this amazing and imaginative book, while a majority of people would see the opposite. Sometimes, when this happens, a seed of doubt plants in my brain and I begin thinking that the book wasn't as great as I thought. But this time, I'm sticking to my original thoughts and feelings on the book. I remember how much I enjoyed reading this and seeing bad reviews shouldn't change that. Anyway, just wanted to get that out of the way.
I originally wanted to read this book due to multiple reasons.
-The awesome cover -Gender-bending -The fact that the author is young -The awesome sci-fi premise This book was actually better than I expected (mostly because I had very low expectations due to the ratings). I thought this book was very imaginative! This book was not only a sci-fi, but a fantasy as well. The author had to come up with the fantasy world as well as the sci-fi elements and the imagination involved in that is astounding! And I was incredibly engrossed in this book. There was so much happening and I was really interested in what was going on. Sure, some parts were slow, but that oddly didn't bother me. And, of course, I also loved the gender-bending (although I wished it lasted longer!)
The only issue I had was the ending. I hated the ending. I hated the last chapter because of a certain thing that happened (view spoiler)[Did Fox really have to die?!?! (hide spoiler)] But my main issue is the Epilogue. I felt that it was pointless, unnecessary, and honestly didn't fit in with the rest of the book. I also pretty much already knew that what happened in the epilogue would eventually happen, so I didn't really see the point in spelling it out for everyone. I was also under the impression that this would be a series and the epilogue hurt any chance of that (unless there's a companion book). But, to be honest, I generally hate epilogues.
IN CONCLUSION I'm in the minority here, but I really did enjoy this book. The idea was interesting, imagination, and a little bit strange. I basically liked everything about this book except the ending. I just can't stand the ending. I admit it, I picked up this book because of the hype. When I picked up this book all I knew about it was that it was historical, had high ratings, and made a lot of people cry.
To be honest, it took me awhile to get into this book. The main reason why is that this book includes a lot of pilot talk that I just don't understand (as I am not a pilot), it was also very slow going. But once I got used to it, I found a beautiful and heartbreaking story about friendship. Although it was sad, I did not cry (since I was fully expecting it), but this was a really good book.
As far as reading Rose Under Fire, probably not. This was a really great book, but I really did have trouble with all the pilot talk and I don't really feel like going into another book like that. But maybe some day.(less)

This was such a cute, fun book! I hardly every laugh-out-loud while reading a book and this was one of those book that you could hear me laughing constantly! If you want to read a book that's unique, funny, and just a cute contemporary I highly recommend this book! It will put a smile on your face and you won't want to stop reading!
And, by the way, you don't have to read the first book before this one. This book is technically a sequel, but it'[s a companion book and you won't be confused. I didn't read the first book and I was perfectly fine!(less)

MY THOUGHTS It's The Winner's Curse all over again. The Winner's Curse was an over-hyped book all over the blog world before it even came out! The Kiss of Deception had the same thing happen. ALL THE BLOGS were raving about this book! So I, of course, had extremely high expectations for this book! But having high expectations is a bad thing because it's very hard to reach those expectations, so you generally end up at least a little bit disappointed. I was disappointed. I don't know, I enjoyed this book, but I thought this would become a new favorite, but it didn't. I can't rave and gush about this book because, while I enjoyed it, that's basically it.
I did find this book extremely original, though, and for the first half, I thought I was going to be in the same boat as those other bloggers. The story has a majority point-of-view following Lia, but their are two other points-of-view. Two strangers meet her, at the same time, one of whom is The Prince, the other is The Assassin. You get their points-of-view from time to time, but you don't know who is who! I loved this part! It made me suspicious and screwed up my mind a bit, but I love it when authors do that! It's such a original idea and it flowed together! But, when the mystery is all figured out, I began to lose interest.
I don't know why. Maybe it's because my favorite aspect was done with, but I just wasn't as into the book. My main issue was just that I couldn't connect to any of the characters. They felt flat for some reason. Again, I don't know why. And I still liked the book, but I just wasn't enjoying it as much anymore.
IN CONCLUSION This book is original and very unique, but beware of the hype-monster! My expectations for this book were much much higher than possible, so I was a bit disappointed. I do recommend this book, as I did enoy iy. It's great for fantasy fans and those who just want something different.
