MY THOUGHTS This is a very interesting series, definitely unique among all the paranormal clones so I was excited to pick the conclusion to this series up. It took a bit for me to get into at first, due to book amnesia, but once I did, I found a very high-stakes conclusion!
Emma is just starting up at a new school, if only that were the worst of her problems. Someone she cares for could go to jail, an evil spirit is intent on revenge by destroying everything Emma loves, and there's a bully who isn't afraid to use dark magic. Emma wants to make sure that she, and all those that she loves, can survive this, but will she destroy her soul in her search for her own revenge?
This book immediately dives into the action, which is okay, but I was just very confused. I had difficulty remembering the events in the last book (due to my terrible memory), so I had no clue what was going on in the first few chapters. Thankfully, I was able to get my memory back and be able to fully understand what was going on. This book gives you enough details of the last books for you to understand things (if it's been awhile), but not too much info to annoy those that are binge-reading the series, so I'm thankful for that.
As for the plot, this book felt so different than the other books. Being the conclusion, there is a lot more going on. Emma basically has three different enemies in this one, which is not an easy thing to take care of. Thus, this book was a lot more action-packed than the previous book. It was so hard to put this book down, since I needed to know what would happen next! I also mentioned earlier how unique this series is among the YA paranormals. This entire series is about Hoodoo, the entire plot is just so different.
The setting of this book and the overall feeling is different from the other books too. The other books take place in the summer, while this one takes place during the start of school. This setting change actually dramatically changes things. This book also felt somewhat darker than the other books. The other books were dark, of course, but I felt like this book was entirely dark, if that makes any sense.
As for characters, Emma definitely does grow throughout the series. It's hard for me to recall what she was like in the beginning of the series, but it's hard for me to realize that Emma isn't even 15. Emma has had to grow up so much and she's become such a strong girl. This book also has a focus on Emma's character, since she has to fight the darkness in herself.
As for romance, there wasn't a whole lot of it, mostly due to the events of the last book. I'm torn on the romance. The romance of this series is more light than some other YA books, but I also don't like how in love they are. I guess I'm just a non-romantic, but I always have a hard time believing that high schoolers are that in love. Still, it doesn't distract at all from the story, so I won't complain too much.
IN CONCLUSION Overall, I thought this was a fantastic conclusion to this series! This is actually my favorite out of the three! This book was action-packed, dark, and so very different than other books out there. I really think that more people should know about this series, meanwhile, I'll be waiting for more by Lea Nolan....more

MY THOUGHTS I adore the premise of parallel worlds, it's probably my all-time favorite topic, and I will pick up anything that even mentions them! I felt like this book incorporated parallel worlds very well! This book was intriguing, fast-paced, with lots of twist!
This book takes place in an alternate future. In Stel's world, there's a mysterious portal, called The Corridor, that takes you to an alternate Earth, Earth 2. The problem is that The Corridor is dangerous. More than half of Earth 2's population died with he creation of The Corridor. A burst of energy from The Corridor accidentally gave Stel the ability to travel to other alternate Earth's, safely, but she must hide her ability. When the people of her Earth start going dangerous routes to erase The Corridor, Stel knows that their routes could destroy their world, but she's powerless to stop them. Stel has to travel to other Earth's to find out more about The Corridor and how it can safely be destroyed.
There was a lot going on in this book! This book does not have a pacing problem at all! In fact, there was so much going on and so much information to grasp, that sometimes it just felt like too much. That's one of the few downfalls of this book, but for a first book in a series it's kind of hard not to dump a bunch of info. Especially with such a scientifically packed novel! Despite this, I still felt like the world-building (world-buildings?) was well-done. My tiny brain could still grasp the science and be astounded by all the action and twists occurring in the book! I really need to stop and appreciate the amount of work, research, and just overall imagination it takes to create this story! Also, PARALLEL WORLDS! Like I said, I adore it when books include parallel worlds and I was not disappointed in this aspect and it actually made me really enjoy this book.
As for romance, it was okay. It wasn't annoying or bad, but it didn't click with me completely. The love interest was a great guy, but he's kind off your average love interest.
Lastly, I would like the warn you that there is a bit of a cliffhanger.
IN CONCLUSION Overall, this was a very surprising read with a very intriguing plot! I had a few minor issues, but I overall enjoyed this book and think it's a fabulous sci-fi! I'm looking forward to reading the next book!...more

MY THOUGHTS After reading White Hot Kiss, I needed to read this book immediately! I was not disappointed! This book is just as fantastic as the first!!
Layla is trying to recover from the crazy events from the last book, but, of course, things aren't over. Layla's powers have been changing and she can't even see souls any more. Add in the fact that mysterious things kept happening when she's around and her classmates are acting more crazy than usually, and something is happening. Along with this, Layla and Zayne's relationship seems to be turning beyond friendship, despite how forbidden it is. Then, the return of Roth adds more questions, but he also carries answers to an evil that has been unleashed from hell. Now, they have to find out who is causing all of this to happen, but they may be closer to the truth than they think...
One of the 'issues' that I had with this book was that I absolutely couldn't put it down. I would think "I really need to start my homework after this chapter", then I finish the chapter and it ends in a way that I can't possibly stop!! I MUST KNOW MORE!! Friends, that is a mark of an amazing book. So much happens, the characters are so frexing amazing, and the entire book is edge-of-your-seat. Don't even get me started on the last hundred so pages. Boy, do things get nuts.
Now, the romance gets more pointy in this book. Last book had a more Roth focus, this one starts to have a focus on Zayne. Let me say that I have absolutely no problem with the love triangle. It's done well and let's face it, both guys are hot and swoon-worthy. I honestly can't pick a side!
Lastly, the ending? I mentioned how fantastic the plot is and how the ending really takes thing up a notch, which brings me to the end... Yep, there's a cliffhanger. You've been warned.
IN CONCLUSION I know this review is all of the place, but my excuses are that this book was so mind-numbingly amazing, that I don't know how to use words and I want you guys to to be as surprised in this book as I was. Overall, this was a fantastic sequel and I'm impatiently waiting for the next book!...more

Actual Rating: 3.5
MY THOUGHTS After the horrible cliffhanger ending in the last book, I definitely needed this book in my hands. Thankfully, this book begins where book two left off. Ven wakes up in Twig City, imprisoned again. She's determined to get back outside and see her friends in the rebellion, to see what's left of the rebellion. But she's been 'asleep' longer than she thought and the rebellion is beginning to grow, even inside Twig City. The Imitations will be freed and Titus will be stopped, but Ven needs to figure out how exactly she can do that.
While the second book had middle book syndrome, this book definitely did not! It took a bit for the book to pick up of pace, of course, but as most conclusions go, there was a lot of action. I'm going to be a bit vague here. Conclusions are high on action, but also high on answers and spoilers! Let's just say that a lot happens in this book, and I am satisfied with the conclusion!
I remember what I really liked about the first book was the change in Van. In the first book, she's really out of her element. She doesn't see herself as human. It is outstanding the amount of change between the beginning of book one to book three. Ven is now a strong girl who believes in a cause and has even become some kind of leader in a rebellion. She had to go through a lot to get to this point, but it's a very interesting how she has changed and grown.
As for romance, I was torn about it in the last book. The romance bothered me in the last book. In this book it didn't bother me. I wasn't wild about it, but it didn't distract from the plot at all, in fact it took the backseat, which I like.
IN CONCLUSION Overall, this is a great conclusion to a very interesting sci-fi trilogy! I enjoyed this series, and I do recommend it! I have a ecopy of Heather Hildenbrand's other book, Dirty Blood, so now I guess it's time to start another series by her!...more

MY THOUGHTS This book takes place directly after the events of Beyond Reach. Ari is worried about Zane, but new memories have also resurfaced that change everything. Ari must also come to terms with her relationship with Cal, while developing her abilities. The rebellion is also on a rise and it all will end, one way or another.
Like the others in the series, this series has multiple perspectives. The difference, though, is that this time we get the perspective of Ari, Zane, and Cal. I really like seeing the different perspectives. I really can't imagine this series without the dual POV, because it just tells us so much more about the characters and gives us an idea on how they feel about what's going on. Especially on the romance. I also liked the addition of Cal, since I actually mentioned in my review on the last book how I would've loved to see Cal's perspective!
This book didn't feel as action-packed, at least in the beginning, but there's nothing wrong with that. There was a lot of focus on the romance. Ari was having a really hard time choosing and there was a lot of drama. Along with that, there were a lot of things coming to light. Not that there was no action, there definitely was, and the conclusion was satisfactory. (I'd like to mention that I didn't really have a team...)
IN CONCLUSION Overall, I love this series and this was a fantastic conclusion! I'm kind of sad to see yet another great sci-fi series end (I've had so many favorite series end recently), but I'm glad that I discovered this series! Overall, pick this series up! All the while, I'll be waiting for Siobhan Davis' next book!...more

MY THOUGHTS I stayed up late reading this book, unwilling to put it down, only to make it to the end and just stare blankly at the screen. Why? Because I wanted more. This book was beautiful and absolutely fantastic!
Khalid, the "boy-king" and ruler of the land, has taken and killed a wife every dawn. When Shahrzad's best friend becomes a victim, she volunteers to become the next wife with the intent of killing the boy king. Shazi has to use her smarts to survive the dawns, but each time she holds back from killing him. Despite what has happened to the other girls, Shazi is growing closer to the boy king, and him to her. The thing that holds her back is that he's keeping a dark, secret. Why is he killing the girls?
I have never read the book that this is a loose retelling of, but I am familiar with it. Still, I was able to fully enjoy this book. I admit, it took a little while. At first, I had trouble because this book changes who it is following every chapter or so. Sometimes it's Shazi, sometimes it's Khalid, Shazi's family, Tariq, etc. I was getting confused and it was a bit slow-pacing for a bit, but then I FOUND THE MOST AMAZING BOOK!
One thing that really stands out is the world-building. The entire world was crafted so brilliantly and so well-detailed, that I felt like I was actually within the pages.
As for characters, Shari is a fantastic MC! She's smart, snarky, and many people in the book described her as fiery (maybe not very nicely). But what more could you ask for in a character? This character knows how to play this game and get what she wants. Even with her strength, she isn't a completely badass girl with no weaknesses. She's' a very complex character and, if I must say, all of the characters in this book are so well-developed. Really, Ahdieh is such an amazing writer!
Lastly, the romance. I ship it hard. I was kind of iffy for a bit, since Khalid definitely has the bad boy thing, but I absolutely adore hate-to-love romances. And I need to stop now before I begin fangirling (more than I have already). Though, there is a bit of a love triangle-esque thing with Tariq, who was Shari's boyfriend before. I really hope that this doesn't come into play in the next book.
IN CONCLUSION Overall, this book is my favorite book so far this year! I loved everything about it and I'm sorry if I was vague, but I'm having such a hard time formatting my thoughts that actually make any sense! If you enjoy well-crafted fantasies with a brilliant storyline, brilliant characters, and all of the twists, so do yourself a favor and pick this up. Heck, if you're a fan of amazing books, pick this book up....more
