MY THOUGHTS Wow! This was such a surprising read! I've been seeing this book all over the web, but never thought that it would be worth reading. All I knew was that it took place in a circus, which didn't interest me for some reason. I eventually read the synopsis and decided that I should give it a try. I saw that this book has a family rivalry, which I'm always a sucker for.
I was expecting this to me an okay read, but this ended up being such a great book! I was drawn into the book quickly and was immediately glued into the pages. I actually read the entire book in one sitting. Above all, this book is a mystery in a circus setting (a setting which I ended up liking) and I really interesting in how everything played out.
I also ended up liking the romance, which is surprising, but I was shipping it the entire time.
My only issue with this book was how the mystery was resolved. I can't explain without spoilers, but it seemed really unbelieveable and way too much was done for just a small thing. (view spoiler)[All of this over a stupid coin? Really?! I know it's an actually good luck coin, but that's still too much! And how can he be forgiven?! (hide spoiler)]
IN CONCLUSION Overall, a really intriguing mystery with a really great, and new, setting. I had issues with the end, but other than that, this was a really amazing book! I would definitely recommend it!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more

MY THOUGHTS This book was not exactly what I was expecting. I was expecting a book with more life-threatening dangers and murder mystery. Yes, there was a murder mystery, but it wasn't as face-paced and dangerous as I thought it would be. The murder mystery mainly including a bunch of teenagers trying to figure it out themselves. Which is fine, but it wasn't really what I was expecting based on the synopsis.
What I really liked about the book is the idea behind the binoculars. This book felt very realistic, but there was the addition of these binoculars that these teenagers stumble upon. These binoculars gave let them see memories of the future, which was a very new idea and I loved the combination of magic with all the realistic elements.
As the story went on, I became very interested in how the binoculars connected to everything and, yes, I was interested in the murder mystery. Although, I was eventually disappointed as they were told who the murderer was instead of finding out on their own, but I was interested as it lasted.
One issue that I had was the characters. They made some pretty stupid decisions I was especially upset when it came to Riley and Sarah. It also irritated me that it took so long for them figure out what the binoculars were doing.
IN CONCLUSION Overall, I did like this book. It was entertaining and had a very interesting idea. I had a few issues with the characters and the slow-pacing of the book, but I did end up liking it....more

MY THOUGHTS This was such a hard book to read. This book focuses entirely on the difficult subject of bullying. I usually avoid books about bullying because I have a very very low tolerance on bullying. When I read a book about bullying I get so angry. I go through the book in a field of rage because I honestly can't understand how anyone can be so cruel to another being. It makes me even more upset that this cruel people generally get away with what they do. Reading books about bullying also makes me feel powerless, since I desperately want to help the main character and make others understand what's going on, but I can't do such a thing.
I had all of these feelings and more throughout this book. I hated almost everyone in this book except for the main character. Yes, I didn't even like Matt, who was supposed to be Ashley's best friend. He was okay by the end, but I can't forgive him for the fact that he treated Ashley like she needed to be fixed and sided with the evil demons that tormented her. I despised all of her classmates, who decided to make Ashley's life hell when she did absolutely nothing to deserve it (nobody deserves it), but I hated her mother more. Her mother is a very horrible mother. She only thinks of herself and sees her daughter as an embarrassment and constantly says that Ashley would only be better if she weren't fat or if she would stand up for herself or be popular. She says so many horrible things to her daughter, practically blames Ashley for what her classmates do to her, and even yells at her for crying at it. A mother is supposed to protect and comfort her child, she is not a mother.
This book was very realistic, but it had a little magical element added in. For the past few years, Ashley has been able to see her future self in the mirror and talk to her. Her future self is trying to prevent Ashley's life to play out a certain way and when it doesn't work, that Ashley becomes future Ashley and takes to her younger self. Confusing, I know, but it was a very interesting add in and made for a very unique way to tell the story. This book also goes back and forth between past and present. We have a present Ashley in some kind of mental hospital talking to a doctor about all of these events and it made for an interesting way of telling this story.
IN CONCLUSION This was a brilliant book. It was unique and beautiful, but so so tragic. Ashley's story is horrible and it will make you so very upset. Be prepared to go through many emotions while reading this book and be prepared for your outlook to change....more

MY THOUGHTS Let's get one thing straight: I did not like this book. Yes, I gave it a high rating, but to tell you the truth, this is not a book that you can like. A book I like would not screw up my mind, confuse the hell out of me, and leave me crying in a QuickTrip parking lot. Point being: This is not an enjoyable read. For the most part, this book is slow and a bit dull. I was curious all throughout the book, since I've heard so many thing about THAT ENDING and there was an aura of mystery, but not a whole lot happens.
But the writing in this book is beautiful. Some people hate the choppy style of writing (an example is shown in the synopsis), but I think it works brilliantly with the story, as our main character isn't exactly all there.
The turning point for me, though, was the ending. I cannot tell you the ending, it's much better if you go into this book without knowing anything, but the ending screwed me up. I was not expecting that ending, even though I look back and see that there are so many clues to it in the book! But it's not something that you would easily guess! The ending destroyed me, but it was beautiful, tragically so, but it was still beautiful.
IN CONCLUSION I originally picked up this book because I heard so many things about the ending. In fact, I picked up this book just because of my curiosity. The ending screwed me up, yes, but I still believe this book to be unique and beautiful. I do think that people should pick up this book just to read the end, but I know that the ending will not have the same affect to others. You will either love this book thanks to the ending or completely hate it. It's all up to you. ...more

I was originally not intending to read this book. It just screams that this would be a drama-filled book. But I liked Sarah Ockler's other books and it was a free read on Pulse-it, so decided to give it a go. I actually ended up enjoying it, in a way. I felt for Lucy and I was glued to the pages because I really wanted to know who was the one behind all this. My issue with this book mainly has to do with my own preferences. I'm not a fan of books with high-school dramas, mostly because they make me so angry. Overall, I did like this book, even though I was very angry throughout it because of how Lucy was treated. And this book made me very glad that I'm done with high-school!...more

Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars
THE RUN-DOWN Cassie has the gift of reading people. She can look at a person and be able to tell who they are, the kind of life the live, and what they may possibly do next. When she catches the attention of an FBI group, she's asked to join. The group of Naturals, filled with other teenagers with natural gifts similar to Cassie's (one just like hers, another good with emotions, and the last good with statistics and numbers), are meant to solve cold cases. But when a current case, homicides targeting women with red hair and/or "psychic" abilities, may be related to her mother's murder, which was never solved, the situation gets even more serious.
MY THOUGHTS I really enjoyed reading this book, which surprised me since I wasn't actually planning on reading this book in the first place. I was actually invested in the story and breezed quickly through the book. But, I've read books like this before. There are a lot of mystery books that have either the same or very similar story line as The Naturals (the first one that comes to mind is The Body Finder series). And while I did enjoy reading this book, I can't give it a higher rating due to how the plot of the book is so common and the fact that there was a few things that were very predictable. (view spoiler)[ In every single mystery book I've read, involving killers, the killer ALWAYS comes after the main character! Always! Always! Always! So, I predicted that at some point, the killer would go after Cassie in some way, which did happen. This disappointed me since I hate it when books are predictable, but there was some redemption (which I'll talk about later) (hide spoiler)]
I also have to say a few things on the romance. You tried, romance, but you failed. The romance of this book basically an attempt at romance, and you could tell that there was supposed to be romance, but we didn't get any romance. Sure, there was some strange kissing scenes, but there was no hint of any feelings from Cassie for either of the boys (yes, there's two, but I would not consider it a love triangle. Mostly since I don't even consider it as romance.). I also had no idea what the two guys were feeling, so the entire romance was basically a few awkward-ish kisses. That's all. I'm glad that this book did not go the route of plot taking the back seat, while romance takes the front, but I also don't particularly like it when romance is thrown into a book for seemingly no reason. Maybe there's more to it in the next book? I don't know, but it's possible.
I know it seems that I was not a fan of this book, based on the fact that all I'm doing is complaining, but I actually did enjoy reading this book. While the romance was kind of stupid, it was only a very small part of the book. And the fact that the plot of this book is a common one did not mean that I didn't like it. There is a reason as to why I have read enough of these books that I recognize how common the plot is. I mentioned earlier that the book was a bit predictable, and yes, that's true, but only in some ways. As with most mystery books, there is something that is, well, a mystery. In this book the mystery surround the serial killer. I had no idea who the killer was. None. When the killer was revealed I was taken completely by surprise! And I loved this! This was not a case of "oh, the killer is actually this person", but there are absolutely no clues or hints that would lead up to that person. No, there were many hints throughout the book, very subtle ones that are not obvious until you know who the killer is. Looking back, I could the genius in this and, of course, I loved the fact that the book took me by surprise.
IN CONCLUSION This is a very quick read, barely 300 pages, and the story is when that you can quickly breeze through. It's a bit of a common serial killer mystery, which I have seen many times before, but while predictable at times, the book will take you by surprise. The "romance" is kind of unnecessary. In fact, I hesitate to call it a romance. But, all in all. I did like this book. It was very entertaining and I definitely plan on reading the next book in the series!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more

MY THOUGHTS My main issue with this book was that it was a big pile of drama. I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'm not a big fan of drama filled books. They make me angry, frustrated, and annoyed at the main characters' stupid decisions. I admit it, I picked up this book without knowing anything about it and if I read the synopsis, I would have known that this would be a drama book.
As I said, I was annoyed by all the characters. They were constantly making stupid decisions, usually involving guys. And this book takes place in only a week, but some of these girls go through so many guys in that amount of time! The entire book basically focuses on all the boy relationships that the four girls go through.
The book has four points of view: Savannah, Courtney, Peyton., and Madison. Savannah is the youngest of the three sisters and is the naive one. She's a sweet girl, but as I said, she is naive and she sees this whole thing as an adventure.
Courtney is the middle child and is the responsible one. She was my favorite point of view. Not only because she wants to eventually get a job in book publishing (as I also want to do), but her romantic relationship was the least confusing, though forbidden, and was the only one I actually rooted for.
Peyton is the oldest and the rebel of the family. She did really irritate me in the book in the beginning, but she eventually grew on me.
Madison is the mean girl. She irritated me. She saw the Diamond's as if they were ruining her life and she was the main central reason for the drama. My main reason that I was upset by her was that she constantly blamed the Diamond's for messing up her life, when she was doing that herself.
On another hand, there were hints that Mr.Diamond was keeping secrets, but we never get these secrets answered. It wouldn't bother me that much, except it's mentioned in the beginning and never mentioned again.
IN CONCLUSION Don't get me wrong, this was entertaining at times, but I am not a fan of drama and it's impossible to ignore in this book. I probably won't continue the series, mostly because I don't have the willpower to go through more drama. If you like books with drama, this one is for you....more

MY THOUGHTS I'm usually not one to go for thrillers, but this one was very interesting! This book was creepy, realistic, with a hint of magic.
I had no idea what this book was about when I picked it up, besides the fact that it was about a creepy killer/stalker. I was pleasantly surprised that Eva actually ends up with the ability to see people's deaths. Sounds like fun doesn't it. I usually don't like it when a very realistic book has more magical elements, but it works out so well with this book. The plot would drastically change without it. It also made the story so much more unique.
The book also has three distinct points of view. We have Eva, Grace (a friend of Eva's), and the killer. All three are very important to see the perspective of, but it was so different to see the perspective of the killer. The killer's mind is so warped and creepy to be inside. It also adds so much dramatic irony as you know what the killer's doing, but Eva, Grace, and the rest don't. You also don't know who is the killer,so this book is constantly keeping you guessing.
The romance was also well-done. It wasn't cliche and it felt more real. The romance also didn't distract from the actual plot of the story.
IN CONCLUSION This is a great thriller, I especially recommend this book to fans of thrillers. It's creepy and unique in the mass of thrillers. ...more

MY THOUGHTS I, honestly, had no idea what to expect from this book. I knew that it was about a road trip, but that's it. I was in the mood for a summer read and this looked like the perfect summer read! This was not what I was expecting. I was expecting a fun road trip book and I got this. This beautiful, unique monster that made me laugh but cry in the span of only a few hours. This book was much more than a road trip.
Reading this book, is like reading five short stories. This book is separated into five different parts: Hudson, Bree, Elliot, Sonia, and Leila. Hudson, Bree, Elliot, and Sonia are each going through their own problems. Each of them have never met each other and never do. But Leila meets every single one of them and changes each of their lives. You see, that's how this book feels like a collection of short stories. Each story is an adventure that Leila has with that particular character. Now, Leila... I'll get to her later. But I loved the unique way that this book's story was told. And I loved all of the characters. Yes, they had their flaws, but that's part of the reason way I loved them. The characters were REAL. They weren't perfect and they were facing problems that many people face.
This did not feel like a serious book for the most part. The adventures that all of the characters have with Leila are oftentimes fun, ridiculous, and absolutely hilarious. Sure, the characters change after the adventure and while that gets more serious, the adventures in the book are more of the fun variety.
Now that I talked about the first four characters, I can talk about Leila. Leila is probably my favorite character, but it's really hard to talk about her without spoiling things. I loved what she did for these complete strangers that she meets on her road trip to the Northern Lights. These strangers don't want to face their problems or change, but Leila won't take that and helps them out in these crazy adventures and I just love her for that. Throughout the book you will become curious about Leila. You will notice that she never gives any information about herself and when she does, it will change in every part. So, by the end, you will really want to hear Leila's story and I have to start talking here...
IN CONCLUSION This is a uniquely told story. I loved the separate little adventures and all of the characters that went with them. This book will make you laugh. Not only are the characters funny, but the situations they get into are hilarious. But this book will also break your heart. I definitely recommend this book!...more

I admit it, I picked up this book because of the hype. When I picked up this book all I knew about it was that it was historical, had high ratings, and made a lot of people cry.
To be honest, it took me awhile to get into this book. The main reason why is that this book includes a lot of pilot talk that I just don't understand (as I am not a pilot), it was also very slow going. But once I got used to it, I found a beautiful and heartbreaking story about friendship. Although it was sad, I did not cry (since I was fully expecting it), but this was a really good book.
As far as reading Rose Under Fire, probably not. This was a really great book, but I really did have trouble with all the pilot talk and I don't really feel like going into another book like that. But maybe some day....more

MY THOUGHTS After reading Ask Again Later, which is by the same author, I really wanted to read some more cuteness! Ask Again Later was such an amazing, adorable read and that was exactly what I was expecting from Top Ten Clues! Was I disappointed? No, I was not. This book still has adorableness, just a bit less than Ask Again Later. Now, to be honest, while I was expecting adorable-ness in this book, and I did get that, I was also expecting some mystery involvement. I know, I know, weird, but based on the fact that the teens were being accused of stealing $10,000, I thought that there would be some kind of "Who Done It?!" And there was mystery involved, a very predictable one, since it's kind of obvious from the start Who Done It! But I had no problem with the predictability of the mystery, since the money being stolen was not the focus. Actually, the story was about all of the teenager coworkers hanging out and becoming friends (sort of). This was a much more entertaining storyline than just a Who Done It and I really enjoyed seeing it! And,another plus, the characters were so quirky!
I keep raving about how cute and fun this book was, because it is indeed cute and fun, but now it's time for me to point out what was wrong with this book. Bad wording there, THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS BOOK! I loved it! But I did have one issue and that is the fact that this was a candy book. A candy book is basically a book that is so enjoyable while reading it, but it doesn't do anything substantial. It doesn't change my way of thinking, it doesn't knock my socks off, it was just an awesome, fun read. Kind of like a piece of candy.
IN CONCLUSION This was a very enjoyable read! If you are feeling down, I highly recommend picking up this book (or Ask Again Later) because it will definitely put you in a good mood! On another note, I will be on the lookout for any other books that Liz Czukas writes!...more
