I really liked the majority of these short stories. I thought the writing was really good and compelling. I usually am not a big short story reader because I don't get enough detail and I don't get attached to character which I like but these stories I liked. It was nice because I'm not a big horror/thriller reader due to gore but in these short stories there was just enough. I always wanted to find out what the 'secret' was.
The only complaint I have (and it is completely personal) is that I didn't get into it so it took me way longer then it should of to read this collection. After each story it felt like I was finished so I didn't feel drawn to keep reading.
I would definitely recommend this collection of short stories and I would read something like this again.(less)

I really enjoyed Rosie style of writing. I felt that it flow perfectly. I think that she tells a beautiful story. I did not think that the main theme was about the money like the back of the book suggests. I think it was more about the family and the different dynamics and personalities. I understand where Rosie wanted to go with the money but I think it feel short. There are long stretches were the money was not even discussed and I think those were better then when the money was tied into the story.
I enjoyed the characters. Although Harris was very frustrating I think that helped the story a lot. It made me hope that things would turn around and that he would figure everything out. And although it took the whole book for him to do so I think in the end he had the life he was meant to have.
I would definitely read another book by Rosie.(less)

I really enjoyed the crime/mystery storyline. I think that it was very well thought out and told. Although I guess some of what happened, I did not guess it all which I really liked. I would of preferred some parts to go a bit faster and I would of liked the ending a bit more drawn out. I think that it was told quite quick. There is still parts that I want to know more about like how Fredrik ended up and I wanted to know more about Stefina. I realize the story wasn't about her but her story seemed interesting.
I enjoyed the characters. I think although there were a lot of people in the book it was not confusing. I think a few of them could of been left out as they did not add much like Jesper. I didn't get a strong attachment to anyone which is odd for such a good story. I wasn't really hoping the story would turn out one way or another.
I would definitely recommend this book and author.(less)

I thought I would enjoy this book because the concept is interesting. I enjoy book where there is different lives that end up becoming one. The problem is the writing. The sentence structure and grammar are to hard to get over. Often there were times where I didn't understand what the author was talking about. Bhavna moved from one place and character to the next in the same paragraph and it was hard to follow who they were talking about. The love stories also seem very juvenile, they made them much harder then then needed to be.

I like the way that Jennie developed the story. I think it was a bit drawn out as I got quite frustrated with Edith and Morton. I think having Anna and Teddy's story in amongst really helped.
I liked the way she wrote the characters. I think they all had likeable and unlikeable characteristics. At various points in the book I would be routing for someone then in the next part I would be hoping that everything crumbled around them. Anna was my favourite character. I really wanted good things to happen for her.
There were times that I had a hard time understanding Jennie's interpretation of Edith and Morton's affair. I would like to think that someone as intelligent as Edith would not stand for the games that Morton put her through. I realize that she was in love for the first time but at some parts it seemed quite cruel.

I thought the characters were believable, likeable, well thought out because they all had a purpose in the novel. Ezra didn't use anyone as a filler which I really enjoyed.
I did get lost a few times in the explanations of the Torah codes but I am not Jewish or know Hebrew so I think this is why.
I really enjoyed the way that the story was laid out. Ezra gave a few clues and discoveries in each section that made you want to keep reading. I didn't find that there was any slow parts in the book that bogged you down. Ezra has a quirky quality to his writing that makes this story fun to read.

I felt this book promoted fear where fear might not of been occurring. I felt that Jonathan boxed all problems into his 5 step solution. It didn't feel like he took outside factor really into consideration. Like what if there is no jobs available or you don't have the money to go back to school. These factors are not based on fear they are based on circumstance.
Although I do believe in trying to turn the negatives into positives I don't believe that we as a society are negative because of one bad experience. I think that people believe the worst so that they don't get their hopes up. I think it is often more then one experience or the experiences of other that shape our negative thinking.(less)
