I knew more people would fall in the battle and as I read their names my heart broke, especially for Fred! It was a fantastic conclusion to a book series and my childhood; I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I cheered. The loss of innocence and pangs of growing up reflected my own, which I definitely felt. I've come across other book series since I finished this in 2007, however none have been able to dislodge Harry Potter from its perch. I've read the entire series so many times i've lost count, and it will be a great treasure to pass down to my children. These books are meant to be cherished and loved by not just this generation, but the many generations to come!(less)

I simply have to hand it to Cassandra Clare: that ending was so bloody well handled that it made me sigh with relief that there was still some life left in love triangles in fantasy books, however I know there is still one book to go. The writing, plot and characters were a marvel to explore and I am eagerly anticipating Clockwork Princess!(less)

I was near comotose for hours (even though I didn't know what that term meant in 2005) because I couldn't imagine such a wise and strong character to fall. Anyway, aside from my sadness felt years ago, the book was well written, although my least favourite of the series (JUST!), it still delivered and was worth the wait!(less)

This was my first insight into the whole dystopian genre that was plaguing the literature world. After I had seen another disease (vampires, werewolves and anything in between) plague my beloved world, I was a bit sceptical of reading something like this. My friend put me onto this, and that is the same friend I have endless discussions filled with smiles and excited screaming with. It had been a solid one and a half years after I had experienced a book series (Dan Brown's Robert Langdon series. I was late getting onto them, I know!) that made me stay up late, turning each page with such eagerness I feared I would end up tearing a page. Luckily this time around I had graduated from school and could sleep in the next day since I was taking a GAP year and only worked a couple of days :)The plot and characters are thrilling, well thoughout and deepful. Katniss makes it onto my list of all-time favourite book characters (I think literature today is lacking in female heroines, personally) And The Hunger Games becomes one of my favourite book series of all time, I simply adored it. Soon Ren returns to her, followed by the usual characters and Kelsey is once against thrust into another perilous journey. I was a tad sceptical when I started reading this because I thought it was going to drag on like that. But once Ren and Kelsey returned to India, it got a whole lot better there! Phew! I'm part of the majority when I say that this was much better than the first. The second part of the book definitely showed some maturity in Kelsey, which was pleasing to see. AND THAT ENDING!!!!! I felt so sorry for Kelsey but exhilarated because it means this Saga is going in a great direction for the series. Such a pleasure to read this book, and cannot wait to read the third. I saw the preview in the back of the second and nearly screamed!(less)

Houck gave us some really good, new characters to deal with and what was really refreshing was their different personalities. They weren't all the same person. My only real problem with this book was Kelsey: she is playing with the hearts of the two brothers too much that it's even painful for me to read about. I feel sorry for them but not her. The ending of the book was thrilling and definitely sets book 4 up for a must read in the future. (less)

It has everything I look for in an excellent book: action, romance, top notch writing, characters that don't make me have violent urges to run them over in my car and a story that has me hooked from page 1. There is going to be a lot leading into book 3 so hopefully this element continues!(less)

It took me a while to adjust when I first read it in 2003, just like Harry, Ron and Hermione, to the evolving threat, and understand that they, like me, are growing up admidst it all. Umbridge was such an excellent, albeit frightening, addition to the story, and the last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat!(less)

The characters, situations, feelings and emotions are quite genuine when compared to other YA tripe coming out these days. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Jace, Clary not so much since she doesn't really grab at me, and Simon seemed to be the glue holding several friendships and ties together. I was happy with the ending and that many loose ends were tied up. Just the last couple of pages did it justice: the loss and grief felt by many coming together to unite in celebration. And as for Sebastian....well, we certainly haven't seen the last of him, that's for sure. (less)

But the fact remains that this series' greatest moments were earlier on in books 1-3. Still a great read with a lot of thrills to keep you satisfied. Sebastian freaked me out to the point where I was squirming along with Clary, and my heart was breaking for Jace. Poor thing. I'm surprised with Clary; usually she annoys me but this one she's become a lot more independent than previously outings and can actually hold her own in a battle. Love that about the female leads! I'm hoping Clare can look back to her earlier novels and what made them great in order to finish off this series with City of Heavenly Fire, and maybe, just maybe, bring the release date forward to this year. Love the name of the final book, too, by the way.(less)

It was a great change of pace to see how tortured Ash really is and what he went through throughout the years before he met Meghan. The return of Ariella, and the emotional problems her and Ash faces, was very well written and handled. And when Kagawa writes with such an emotional thread that it's hard not to be crying out inside. A great end to such a great series!(less)

There was such a heightened sense of urgency and pace within this book because the characters were so close to going into war and emotions were running extremely high. Meghan has certainly matured a lot since the beginning, something I love in a character, and the decisions she makes are testimony to that fact. The ending nearly had me in tears because of what happened, and Ash is such a great character that he makes me want to sing to the heavens that not all literary guys are shallow and moody.(less)

I did wonder how Collins would keep the story going, and she did that in excellent fashion. There were times when I felt for characters and I nearly cried when some died. The action, tension and drama were all there. Still love Jace, slowly warming to Clary and my heart goes out to Simon! What really strikes me with these books is how mature the issues are approached. If that's the right word. Clare simply astonishes me with her writing and how the characters dealt with love, in both forms, loss and grief. I was especially glad Clary didn't jump off a cliff or become comotose for several months because she grieved for her losses. I just read the blurb for the next book and CANNOT FREAKIN' WAIT!(less)

But along came The Darkest Minds and my mind, literally, was blown away. I've been eagerly waiting for this book for a good six months and the wait was worth it completely. Bracken's skill in writing out scene after scene and not making two the same worked favours for me, and her depth with character development was an immense plus. Looking back I don't think any of the characters annoyed me to the start of utter rage, not even Ruby, the main character, since for the past few months i've been reading books and all of the main characters, mostly whiny girls, annoy me to the ends of the earth. Phew, such a relief! The story itself was interesting, and the journey the characters took even more so. The ending was heart-breaking for me, especially since my heart was racing a million miles an hour in the last hundred pages so I guess it just could quite hold on 'til the end. Please, please write more Bracken. I beg you!(less)

I was sceptical after reading the first couple of chapters and, ever so slightly, bored. However, when everything started happening, I was entranced. The characters are so multi-layered it makes me stand up and cheer as they fight for what they believe in. I was almost in tears in the final twenty pages as everything came together. And afterwards I was in a daze because it was all over. A sort of gaping hole had opened up inside of me. I cannot put into words my praise for the ending to this series; it stood up to the challenge of ending a spectacular series, and succeeded on so many levels. Well done, Michael Scott!(less)

That is not how you're supposed to act when he treats you like that! Make him pay; punch him, claw his eyes out, ignore him when he wants you back and pretend like you don't even care about him!!! Aside from Meghan's lack of an "iron spine" as she so said she had, the book was just as fantastic as its predecessor. If not better. It was heartbreaking, tearfully sad and made me so eager to read this that I had to hide it under the table when I was supposed to be doing homework. I'm slowly falling in love with this series and its characters. Kagawa's writing is exceptional and I applaud her descriptions of the fights: no repetitive "clanging" was to be heard in a single paragraph of a struggle. Rejoice! But Meghan really needs some concrete, a whole truck full of it. And I certainly don't mind getting it for her if it'll make this series more fantastic than it already is...(less)

Yeah, I've read a few books from that genre. Namely The Hunger Games, Divergent and Legend. But Poison Princess....WOW!! I'd just started reading this book before I was on the last few pages and the ending was unravelling, whilst also setting up the scene for a sequel. Cole has created an extraordinary mix of literature here: the characters are believable and multi-layered, the emotions felt by them in the wake of the disaster gave fantastic and real insight into what they would be feeling and thinking. Evie, unlike most female heroines in the Dystopian genre, realises that she is quite a liability but is determined to change that, and at the end of the book even Jackson could realise that she's more an ally rather than an liability. And Jackson...where to start? I understand the whole dynamic between him and Evie, and love how they care more about fixing the problem ahead of them rather than giving into their desires and putting that above their lives. Jackson's reactions to the disaster was phenomenally written as he tries desperately to help Evie. I was overwhelmed with Cole and her story. This is a book series to keep a close eye on in the near future. This will be huge!(less)

As always, this series is a pleasure to read, and I love the constant switching to various characters, giving the entire series an excellent pace work with. And for some strange reason I love the character building of Josh, gives the entire series another dimension. What makes me resist the urge to give it the well earned 5 stars is that I find something missing, although i'm not sure what that is. Maybe once I have my hands on the final installment i'll be able to figure that out but, until then, I have to wait on edge for it to arrive. Highly recommended!(less)

I read the blurb and considering that after actually reading the book, it didn't do it justice. The blurb, I mean. Houck has created Kelsey to be, to put it plainly, a genuine, modern girl. Many people will easily relate to her and the grief she carries with her. Kelsey isn't like many other heroines; she realised reality instead of actually letting Ren get closer to her. She put a stop to that because she wasn't an absorbed, desperate and ditzy girl and think that to actually live a great life you need a man. Those types infuriate me to a point where I cannot bare to look at the book ever again. Kudos to Houck for creating such a tale that will enthral the reader from page one!(less)

It was everything that I pictured it would be and so much more. The plot and characters were a credit to the imaginative mind of Maas. I'm in awe of what happened and cannot put further praise into words. This is a must read!(less)
