She does show the point of view of a few different characters however it changes from paragraph to paragraph rather than each chapter being by a different character. I prefer the chapters being different.
The story had a great twist though, something I didn't even know was possible. It was really neat to learn about.(less)

I am a very detail oriented person and that didn't really help during this read. At one point, I was tempted to start the book over and keep a notepad with me so I could write down all their names and a little about them so I knew who was who when they were sharing their stories since it goes by point in time rather than each story individually.

It was a good book but didn't seem to have much depth. The chapters were short which kept the book moving quickly and always wondering what would happen next. However, it was basically just Ellen doing her own research and not a whole lot of interaction with other characters. I am just guessing here, but I highly doubt that if this were to happen in real life a person would just go out and do their own detective work for such a serious matter.
The end of the book was excellent though and the pace really picked up and I enjoyed that. I definitely think the last 10 or so chapters were the best in the book.(less)

As some others have said, Hannah spent a lot of time describing the surroundings and using a lot of adjectives. This got so boring for me and at times, I found the book extremely difficult to read. I actually started this book like 3 times but could never get past the first paragraph. Now, when there was action happening, it was a completely different story and I was able to fly through the book. It seemed to be a fast/struggle/fast/struggle pattern for me throughout the whole book.
I was also pretty disappointed with the ending. Of course, we know what happens but it would have been nice to see a little bit farther into the future and see where all of the characters were, say, maybe 5 years down the line.(less)

If I were her husband, I would be appalled that she wrote that for the whole world to read. It disgusts me just to read it. Later towards the end when talking about other children being adopted she described ones without arms, crossed eyed, or other issues as being "not whole". This came across as them being less than a human being. How could you say that about someone?
Then there is the whole thing with Maggie and Yuri. It was quite apparent they didn't know what they were doing. When asking Maggie questions she would just shrug and not give them answers. Janis and Ken signed papers that were not translated for them. I can't believe people would pay $15,000 and not even know what they were doing. It seemed very unorganized and a lot of them time I felt like they were being scammed. I was waiting for them to say it was all a joke, and thankfully for them, that never happened.(less)
