I'd classify this one as more a light-chick lit/ paranormal/ sweet book, as opposed to some of Pressey's more gritty, action-packed novels.
Overall, an interesting premise, original quirky characters and a swoon-worthy romance (with a dash of mystery and suspense). And it's very well-written, which further cements Pressey into my "authors I must read everything they've written" list. (less)

The story has action, drama, and a heap-helping of steamy goodness. I just wish it was longer... the characters were great, but I didn't get to know them as much as I would have liked.
It probably doesn't help that I haven't read #1 yet... as I'm sure if this is more of a serial story spread over multiple shorter-length installments, then I'd probably feel more vested in the players.

The writing was tight, yet evocative in the "chills up your spine" kind of way. Definitely recommend for fans of classic horror stories. The setting (hospital) and cast of characters amped up the ghastly tension even further too.
I read this as an ARC a while back, and I can still recall the details with enough clarity to re-goosbump myself. So that's saying something about the power of the story, for sure!(less)

First, it's a very well written novel and the intricate weaving of a couple of timelines was done very well. The characters, while not always likeable, rang true and clear. The setting and descriptions made it easy to transport myself to this strange land as I read along.
The author's take on the Wyrding and spells was a breath of fresh air, as was her take on fairies. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who likes their fantasy/ paranormal to have a creative flair. (less)

What I liked most about this book was how the author was able to get inside the main characters heads and show how two people will view the same situation in different ways.
Finished the book last night. Still running bits of it through my head this morning-- that's the mark of a good book!(less)

I liked the author's crisp, witty style of writing and found the setting fairly inventive and creative. The author's take on vampire mythology was fairly unique too. Having a kick-arse heroine in the novel doesn't hurt either :-)
All in all, a worthy read. I will certainly download the second one sometime today, so I can see where Book 2 takes me!(less)

It took me for a ride and then some, and I loved every minute of it. The cast of characters felt "true" and complicated- like real people, which drew me into their story fairly quickly. And then the odd and magical started to happen.
I did not see any of the twists and turns coming, which made them all the more exciting. Brilliant plot, flawless, fast-paced writing and an ending that left me begging for more!(less)

The word-building between the different factions was so much fun to delve into. The premise of the game was unique and compelling. I loved several of the characters: the unwitting brother (reminded me of Zander from Buffy), the daughter of the Devil, the creepy woman child, oh, and so much more.
I wasn't as enamored by the Vamps, and didn't quite "get" the love connection made, but overall it wasn't enough to overshadow the rest of the book's redeeming qualities. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!(less)

It wasn't the pacing (because a lot happened in the beginning) so I'm thinking it was the amount of backstory woven into the start of the novel.
But after I pressed on, things certainly got more interesting and I'm glad I did read it to completion. The "magic" was neat, and I found the training parts interesting and nicely done. The romance factor during the second half of the book was very nicely done.
There is a bit of a cliffhanger ending, but it's not so abrupt as to leave a sour taste in your mouth. Just makes you want to read the next one!(less)

The magic and her "parental units" situation was unique and well done. There was enough romance to make it more compelling, but nothing I'd worry about my teen daughter reading. I particularly love the bits where the main character is try to learn how to control her magic. Part witchy-magic and part fairy-magic (there is a difference, it seems)this book would be a good choice for snuggling up with by the fire!(less)

In fact, I got so into it that it certainly didn't feel like a short work at all, just that I'd read a novella (devoured actually) in record time.
If your expecting a little girl-on-girl action, you won't get it here. Well maybe just a little, but this is certainly not erotica. This story is more a fantastical love tragedy than any standard genre read.
I've certainly found a new favorite author! Pick it up, you won't be sorry:-)(less)

The kids were funny, and the supporting cast of characters quirky, "real" and should make for interesting plot lines in the future. (I'm assuming this is a series, or will be).
The magic is of the Samantha Stevens / Nanny McPhee variety and not too scary or heavy for the younger kids either. Off to see if there is another book out yet :-)(less)
