I practice Chado so I understand a surface of what Zen is, but it is very difficult to explain what Zen is to someone.
I don't think kids at my son's age have to understand what Zen is, but it is nice to get ideas of Zen philosophy. This beautiful picture book tells you the ways to see things from different directions.
I didn't ask what he thought after I read this book to him today, but next time I'd like to know.
I'm sure I'll open this picture book just for myself sometimes too.(less)

You can feel anxiety, loneliness, expectation and hope through this boy who just moved to new town that he doesn't know anybody in. Who is Neville that everybody is calling? The boy answers "His best friend, I guess." when he was asked "Are you a friend of his?" This line touched my heart and reminded me when my son said to me that he liked himself. I'd recommend this picture book to anybody who is encountering to a new world.(less)

Everything this strange green little passenger tells cab driver sounds twisted from real places. This picture book reminds me 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. My 7 years old son enjoyed this book, but I think I enjoyed it more. It makes us think many possibilities after finis reading the book. (less)

It's better for children to know the original story to fully enjoy this book. It's hilarious how Mo Willems twisted the story, and also his humor is everywhere in his illustrations. (less)
