I love the fact that it takes a step back from the initial black metal drama that happened in the North ["story told a thousand times…"] and focuses more on other black metal scenes, bands and relevant individuals, while still discretely not letting us forget the events from the 90s, Norway, and using them as a sort of parallel, comparison point. However, what I found to be the bad side of this exploration of international BM scenes is that after the first 1/3 of the book, it is much more about an academic/culturological/musical "battle" between Norway and US than anything else, with the exception of few big names that kept being mentioned throughout the whole book. The essay on Transcendental BM…not sure if the problem is in the definition of the division itself or the fact that the essay was written by an actual artist who invented the term - the essay sounds very subjective, without any [for me, personally] real and/or logical support except the personal point of view of the creator of the "genre". Another thing I love is that the book features a lot of art and artists who are not operating in the music industry but are completely or partly influenced by Black Metal music and some who even contributed *to* BM culture and its development through their art - painting, sculpture, illustration, photography, typography, print and even graphic design. A lot of interviews, interesting side-material and input from significant individuals.
All in all a beautiful read and an absolute recommendation....more

Little 3D details and elements are beyond cute. Texts are a bit clumsily written and i wouldn't mind if it contained a bit more facts and info, i kind of feel like they tried to fit as much as they could into 3 sentences. Otherwise, book that would anyone smile....more

I say probably because if you like books that have a dominant, strong plot that will drag you in completely...you might not like it. This is mainly a psychological book, dealing with personalities of more than interesting, cute characters. I did enjoy reading it, even though i would easily let go of it on slow parts so it did take me a while to read it....more

It is strong, hypnotic, with a very, veeeery strong philosophy behind it.
However, even before reading you reviews i've noticed a pattern and made certain conclusions;) and the winners are: - people who are LOVE Siddartha most probably dislike Demian or are indifferent to it - people who haven't heard of Abraxas before or about the cult of Cainites probably won't understand the philosophy behind the book to its core, therefore won't be as intrigued by it
ofc i'm not saying anything of this in a judgmental way, far from it! it just really proved to be the pattern:)...more

His work even influenced my life, my art, i could even say way of living and the way i look at people to some extent. I literally don't know the exact number of how many times i read but i can tell you that it reached a doble-digit number.
I am not sure how you review an entire collection, but this is an absolute must read. If you love romance, if you like bizarre, if you like gothic, if you love supernatural, if you love mystery, detective genre, poetry....Poe covers it all and it covers it beyond well. I love how he plays with human fear and psychosis, his self-created words/expressions/rhymes in his poems, i love the atmosphere, i love that he presents the amount and strength of love through darkest moments and sides of human existence. I love his subtle use of supernatural, his humor.
I did my highschool matura work/graduation paper [i'm not sure for the right term in english:/], even though i've been his worshiper way before that, on Poe's prose opus and themes he covered in it. Got an A of course;)
